Questions & Answers

Will this drill/saw cut through both metal and concrete?

Asked by: John
Yes, in general. Metal is a wide range of materials. Soft aluminum will gum up the grit and stop cutting. Mild steel likely works OK, but try to make straight cuts through sheet. Going over edges (like cutting tthrough plate at an angle) can tear off the grit particles pretty fast. Tool steel etc will wear it out quickly. Concrete goes faster and better flooded with water, but will work without.

well this bit drill glass

Asked by: sab20052005
Maybe. The grit on this is hard enough to cut glass, but is very coarse, like you'd need for concrete, tile backer, etc. . Glass cutting is a special thing. Some glass can be cut abrasively, some just cracks or shatters due to internal stress you can't see. It takes fine grit, very careful pressure and usually must be submerged in water or grit slurry to control the heat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1 3/8" carbide grit hole saw This was used to "drill" a hole in 1 1/2" thick hard stucco, backed by heavy wire mesh. It left a nice clean hole and cut much better than I had anticipated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job easily Great price- much better than competition. Worked very well. Only four stars because I can't rate the durability from my experience. I used the bit for one project- to cut through dense laboratory tabletop material (very hard, with sand in it). It cut through 1 inch thickness in about a minute, using only a small cordlless drill, low speed and no coolant. I was enlarging a hole so I couldn't use a pilot bit. I was able to start the cut without a pilot drill bit, by starting with light pressure at an angle to the surface. This was easier than I expected. Once I got it started, I could gradually tilt the saw up to vertical and increase pressure. It was stable and self guided after that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ever "Holes" for my needs No other hole saw I have ever used makes the hole, as accurate and as smooth as I want it to be. In the picture you may note the layers/levels of the leaves. With this Carbide Grit Hole Saws smooth and accurate holes sealing and gluing is now a "Snap!" A real time-saver-money-maker.
