Q:It states up to 22ga. steel. Does up to, mean, 24,26 and 22ga but not 18 or 16ga. sheet metal?
by|Apr 1, 2022

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Rick, 22ga is the thickest steel the snips are optimized for. Thinner steel (24ga and 26ga) are good to go, but thicker steel (18ga or 16ga) will not provide a great cutting experience.

Q:Im repairing my exterior foundation vents around my house to keep rodents out of my raised foundation crawl space. I bought a roll of 1/4”x 2’x5’ 23-guage mesh hardware cloth thats galvanized and wondering if these snips will do the job easily for a not so strong mom like me that has weak hands. Will these work without so much cutting effort? Or is there something better that someone recommends please?

      Answer This Question

A:  These will work. Home Depot also sells a straight cutting pair, There are right, left and straight cutting snips that are adequate for your needs. You should use some sort of safety glasses and tough gloves are a necessity to also use. I'd also double cover those vents to deter those rodents. Good galvanized hardware cloth is a must. Hope this helps

Q:what is the difference between milwaukee straight cut offset snips #48-22-4532 and milwaukee leftcut offset snips #48-22-4512 ?

      Answer This Question

A:  The straight cut works best to cut metal roofing

      by|May 1, 2020

A:  The straight cut snips cut straight up from the base of where you are cutting. Left cut make an angle that travels to the left of the base of what you are cutting.

        by|Aug 3, 2019

A:  Most definitely. They're sold in Left, Right., as well as straight cut. I've got all three snips. What happens is the way they cut and push the cut ends off the edge. They're good, sharp, cutters. I've had them a few years and use them frequently. Best I've found. Use good leather gloves so your knuckles don't end up looking like mine

A:  Straight snips are for making straight cuts and left offset snips make it easier for left angled or left curving cuts.

            terrible hand tool
This is the worst Milwaukee hand tool I have ever bought. the piviot pin for the spring keeps backing out. It is a pin not a nut and bolt, and nothing is holding the pin in but friction. While using this tool the pin backed out and the spring came out. I would return but it is past the return date.

Bought these to replace an old left-cut pair of Wiss snips. These are very high quality and the forged blades are what sold me. They easily cut through some sheet metal duct work and cut through aluminum dryer duct like it was paper. I Highly recommend these.

These are well made, heavy duty sheet metal shears. The offset handles do a good job of keeping your fingers and knuckles away from the sharp edges of the metal. I’ve cut many feet of 26 gauge metal siding and roofing, and so far they’re showing no signs of dulling. The cushion grips are easy on your hands, and the one hand locking mechanism is easy to use.

Should have bought these years ago! And I am a Milwaukee fan - love their stuff. And these offset snips do not disapoint! I have no problem buying tools I need for a job, knowing I will need that tool again. At the end of the day if I use a tool more than a couple of times, it will have likely paid for itself. But for whatever reason I kept putting off getting a pair of left and right hand cutting snips. Why - its not like they are going to break the bank. Instead I just struggled by with my straight cutting snips. Don't be that guy! Unless you use them everyday they will likely last you a lifetime and make those little frustrating jobs where you think you will get by with the straight cutters so much easier. These things are sweet. They feel good and solid in your hand and the chrome moly blades give a nice clean deliberate cut. No regrets and no more mangeled edges!

I recently built a deer/wildlife mineral feeder with a sheet metal roof. I have a pair of straight sheet metal snips and cutting long pieces and curves of metal were a problem, very hard to do. I suffered through the first one, but got these snips before starting the second one. Having the correct left hand snips made the job easier and no cutting up my hand either. They are sharp, made of quality material. The grip handles do not slip. The close/lock works well.

These are high quality and effective aviation metal snips! First things I noticed is how study they felt, how well made they are, and how good they felt in my hand. These snips made my old ones seem like cheap toys. The Milwaukee snips have forged blades which they say will stay sharp ten times longer than conventional blades. The blades are chrome plated for rust resistance and are built strong. No play at all in the cutting mechanism. The handles have excellent grip and comfort and have holes in the ends for peg board hanging. The jaw locking mechanism was flawless and easy to use. In use, these are high quality snips. These are a right angle set and did a great job of cutting light and heavy gauge sheet metal. While designed to cut in a right angle, they also did a decent job of cutting a straight line. The head is offset to provide greater material clearance when cutting, a real plus for longer run cuts. These snips should last a long time, are from a quality manufacturer, and do a great job of cutting sheet metal.
