11.5 in. Long Straight-Cut Aviation Snips

The spring in between the handles is way too strong and it pushes the grips way too far apart. I have really big hands and had a hard time gripping this thing. These get dull pretty fast, might have cut only 15 feet of 1 gauge steel and the nut got loose causing the metal to go vertical in between the snips. Wouldn't recommend for any big jobs maybe gutter work that's it. Also the clip that holds them closed got misaligned after my first cut so now they are stuck open in my box.

Hi this is for 11.5 in. Long Straight-Cut Aviation Snips Model #48-22-4537. It has good reviews on the Home Depot site, and indeed it is well built and feels good in hand when using it. However there is a MAJOR issue. If you test the cutting edge steel on the Rockwell HRC scale, it only scores between 50-55. It is ChromeMoly steel. A lot cheaper than the tool steels that other snips are made of. My Wiss snips tested 65+ on the Rockwell scale. This snip looks nice, but it does not have a durable edge. Since most people don’t test their steel, they will naturally assume that because of the Milwaukee name, it is a good product, but this is not true in this case. I might still have a use for it, but it will not be for cutting sheet metal as other tin snips are capable of.

Very nice snips of good quality you expect from Milwaukee. These are some well built snips and and handles give a comfortable solid grip that allows you to plow through the job easily. The long cutting edge is very handy. I'd been doing some cutting with my others shortly before getting these and thinking I wish that cutting edge was about twice as long to make the job easier. Well these fit that bill as you can see with the picture I posted with them shown next to my old ones. The old ones are find and a solid tool but sometimes you need more cutting edge. I like the straight design for most of my needs as well. One thing I will say is that out of the package they are a bit stiff but they are fine once you open them. That said though I could not open them with one hand. I had to hold them with one hand and open with the other due to the clip being tight. I figure with use that will probably limber up. Of course you do not want it too loose or it will be dropping down in the way while you are cutting. So better it be too stiff than too loose. All in all this is a very solid tool and pretty much what you expect from Milwaukee.

I got these to help with the install of our corrugated steel bathroom accent wall. The snips are accurate and work very well to cut straight lines and also for cutting out things such as wall outlets. The edge is a bit rough but they did cut through the tough steel without too much issue. I was also able to sheer off tiny portions to get the panels to fit on the wall. Overall these work wonderfully for our project.

Easily Cut Smooth Straight Lines! I used this to cut a 2" wide by 19" long strip of .019" aluminum as shown in the video. The connecting bolts on these snips are flush and therefore do not snag your work as you cut. This allowed me to cut this long strip without it curling up. This occurs with other snips I own when the piece I am cutting has to clear connecting bolts that are not flush. The design of the grips are comfortable and help you maintain control of the snips while cutting. As can be seen in the video I was able to make a long smooth cut with these snips.
