STROKE LENGTH

i SEE THIS ITEM IS OFFERED IN A 1 1/8 STROKE LENGTH AS WELL. HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR NEEDS ? WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS ?
Asked by: OLDGUY
It's easier to make a plunge cut with the shorter stroke. It's also easier to make cuts if there is something behind the piece you're cutting and the blade may bounce off it. The only benefit to the longer stroke is that it cuts faster.

12 Amp 3/4 in. Stroke Sawzall Reciprocating Saw with Case is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the best! Forget the longer stroke lengths, 3/4 is where it's at. I call the other sawzalls blade benders. Especially for plunge cutting. Also this sawzall is weighted to where I can use it with one hand, which is nice for holding a pipe, tree limb, board, etc. in the other. I've noticed a trend within all recip saw makers to go towards longer stroke lengths and higher amps. I've got a couple of milwaukee 11 ampers which I still feel were the best sawzalls ever made. For rehab/remodeling this is the one if you want to avoid over cuts and bending blades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought this to replace my original which was stolen by my junkie house cleaner and her dope deali... Bought this to replace my original which was stolen by my junkie house cleaner and her dope dealing boyfriend so I had a bad attitude. But once I put in a blade and started cutting, Whoo Hoo, I was happy again. Feels no different than my 10+ year old model. Unlike most other manufacturers, Milwaukee has not cheapened its product. It cut through oak 6x6's just fine as long as I let it cool a bit between cuts (it was a little slow due to short stroke but did the job). HD had about the best price on the net and it arrived in a couple of business days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive Originally I was planning to purchase the super sawzall (15amp) to replace my 18v dewalt, but I decided on this model since it falls under the 1600watt my inverter generator is rated for. Anyone who's used a battery operated sawzall knows how quickly the batteries drain. This gives me the portability of the battery operated and the oomph of the corded. Now about the performance of the tool - its amazing! I am thoroughly impressed with the power, precision, and handling of this tool. Actually, I'm glad i did not buy the super sawzall because once i saw the two side by side in-store, the super is too big and heavy for most average jobs. One last note: there is a 1.125 stroke version of this saw. If you do your homework you'll find that most everyone recommends the .75" stroke and so do I. Its easy to hold on to, especially when cutting 'grabby' material like steel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Storm Sandy SSS actually lifted my deck which is about 15 x 20 and when water went down the deck was sitting on my fence which was right next to my neighbor's fence. I bought this saw and thought I had a nightmare job ahead of me. This saw cut across that deck so easily and I was finished in about an hour. I love Milwaukee! Now if only they could teach my husband how to use their products. Great tool and easy for a woman to use!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth operation This tool is one of my most comfortable tools to handle. It has the power to handle any job or material you throw at it including heavy sheet metal cuts, providing you use quality blades. Vibration is minimized in this well-balanced tool, and you have excellent control over its variable speeds. When a job calls for this Milwaukee Sawzall, I smile. Of all my tools, I think this one is my favorite.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 63yr woman says "Best cutting tool ever!" I am a 63 year old woman - I work in a general gearbox / wind turbine manufacturing facility in Receiving. Materials incoming to receiving dock and stockroom are large metal parts and gearing shipped in skids and crates braced with nailed in 2X bracing that must be removed. Recip saws are a MUST. We have a couple of different brands of recip saws available at work, so before I committed to buy a product myself, I was sure I only wanted a Milwaukee SAWSALL! I live in a home of my own, and am not inclined to ask for help with house or yard unless a safety issue or I just don't have the muscle - this is a super versatile, safe and easy power tool. I look for reasons to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tool I have owned and worn out several recip saws. This is the best one I have ever owned. I chose the short stroke because I wanted control and accuracy and this saw delivers that completely. I need a longer stroke saw someday, they are faster but for most of the work I do, this is fast enough and the accuracy and control is a good trade off. This saw with a new sharp blade will out perform a longer stroke saw with a dull blade. If you need speed and don't care about accuracy, the fastest recip saw is one with orbital action. That will be my next saw purchase for use as a companion to this saw,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a beast! I was torn between the DeWalt, Makita and Milwaukee saws because they were at around the same price for a 12 amp. Reading online reviews and they all seem to be fine. This is a true work horse. I have cut trees and also pressure treated lumber with this saw. Using it one handed can get tiring though so just be aware of it. The description says 7 lbs but it definitely feels heavier than that (maybe 10lbs) I went to Home depot and compared them. I feel comfortable I made the right decision. I asked three different home depot employees and they all pointed me towards this. Generally you can tell how good a product is by the manufacturer warranty, 5 years versus 3 for the others.
