The quality receives high marks as is consistent with Milwaukee's reputation. I did find some rusting after only minimal exposure to water, but it came clean easily and a good reminder to lightly oil any steel tool. The machining of the tool itself lends substantiation to the word "perfection". It is without flaw. The jaws have a nice machined smooth surface for chrome plumbing surfaces. I would however like to see more variables in the adjustment to make it easily adaptable to a wider variety of fittings. As the photos will show, it was spot on for some chrome fittings, and not so perfect for others. This caused the wrench to want to slip off the nut without a heavier force on the grip. It would have a 5 star rating if not for this one issue I found.

Never had a set of smooth jaw pliers, but for items that have “sides” like large nuts, these work great. They don’t tear up, scratch/scar the edges of chrome nuts, exposed plumping or anything else you don’t want to damage. The handles have a good grip and make gripping easy. You can tell these are well made and will last. I would not recommend this for other applications where a rigid grip is needed.

I got these pliers the other day specifically because they were exactly what was needed to tighten a new fixture in my newly remodeled bathroom. Most people would use a pipe wrench or some other large tool, but these were exactly the right tool for the job. They fit the fixture just right on the second notch and have a really nice dipped handle that makes for an easy grip. All in all I like the pliers and will definitely re-use them when doing some more plumbing.

Milwaukee 12” Smooth Jaw Pliers I’ve been looking for a leverage advantage smooth jaw pliers for use on nonferrous and plastic hex fasteners and these 12-inch Milwaukee’s have been found to fit the bill. This is the type of tool I might use every day, so it’s nice it comes with a Lifetime Warranty. The pliers are made from forgings and appear precision machined. A rust preventing protection is also applied that gives the tool a matt grey finish. The handles are dripped in a red colored soft plastic material making them very comfortable to use. All in all, they are attractively heavy duty and clearly a professional grade tool. So these Milwaukee’s are now my go-to pliers for brass fittings and those made of plastic type materials (see photos). The jaws open to a maximum of 2-inches, and the smallest parallel is ¼-inchwide. There are seven intermediate opening adjustments along the tool head. Another useful feature of these adjustable opening size smooth jaw pliers is pressing in spring pins, especially into round shafts, or bearings into tool plates (see photo) when a hammer and a punch is not appropriate.

Pretty good set of pliers but not perfect...........................................................
Pretty good set of pliers but not perfect......................................................... This is an unbiased review that is unaffected by the fact that I received this product for free. As proof of impartiality, just click on my nickname and see the average of the ratings I have given over 200 reviews to date. Normally when tightening larger dress nuts, I have used adjustable wrenches to keep from marring the surfaces. But sometimes the size needed (over 2") would result in using a huge wrench along with the increased possibility of damage. This tool will usually solve that problem since it opens to about 2.25" maximum nut size. This is the max opening when the jaws are still parallel to each other. The minimum opening with the jaws parallel is about .25". Since these pliers are specifically to be used to avoid scratching the material, I found it odd that one edge had a lip on it that would certainly damage the surface. That is a quality control issue. I used a small file to remove the lip and rounded the other 3 edges as well just in case. The package states the grips to be "dipped", but since the grips were loose on the handles, I don't really see how that is possible. In any case, the grips are fairly tight and I could only slide a grip about 1/16" inch (see photo). There is a recess in each handle to help keep the grip from sliding off, but I wonder how much that will help in the long term. The pivot pin is a fixed rivet, so there will be no tightening of the fit as the tool wears. This tool is made in China. Summary: Good, but not perfect.

Very nice channel lock pliers, with 7 channels, and pretty solid mechanism. Obviously the smooth jaws are the selling feature of this tool. I generally electrical tape a set of pliers to avoid marring a shiny new installation, but it's not fool proof, especially if the tape rips at the edges. This avoids the problem, and easy inexpensive tool to add to the toolbox, fixing a very specific, but common problem really well.

A decent pair of pliers with rubberized grip. They seem to be well made, but perhaps a slight notch below Milwaukee’s other hand tools I own. That being said, they are pro grade and will get the job done. The machining is precise, including the grooves at each jaw setting. There’s a little bit of play between the jaws, but that shouldn’t be a problem once they’re seated on the workpiece. I prefer Channellocks offering to this pair, but Channellock only makes a 10” smooth jaw plier with up to 2” capacity, whereas these will grab a pipe, sleeve, fastener, or fixture over 2-1/4” in size. If you need the extra 1/4” or so, and appreciate the extra leverage from 12” pliers, I can recommend these to you. The price is reasonable for what you get, a decent quality hand tool from a reputable brand with a convenient lifetime warranty.
