can this withstand a 100 lb generator a few inches wider to store permanently?

Yes, I think it can. Our boxes were wider than this product, yet, it did the job. However, I didn't have 100 pounds - maybe 50-70.

It depends on how much the repair is going to cost you. I think it's great, but I couldn't think of it carrying such a big load. One case of water at a time is all I would go for.

This worked fine for a 100 lb water heater, which is why I bought it. For 60 lbs of books however, a bump running not entirely straight broke the PLASTIC wheels. Who puts plastic wheels on hand trucks?

I was quickly able to learn how to use the Milwaukee Hand Truck that I purchased on May 18, 2020. Although I was able to roll this truck a mile with an air conditioner on its noseplate, it was necessary for me to slightly stoop because the handle did not extend high enough for me to walk in a full, upright position. (The advertisment card attached to this unit did not declare the handle's, extension height.) Nonetheless, this small capacity (68 kg/150 lbs) hand truck has more, noseplate surface area than full-size hand trucks, is less expensive than full-size hand trucks; and its collapsible feature makes it easily storable.

I had been using this folding handtruck for about a year and a half when it failed on me. One of the wheels would no longer open when the loading plate was lowered. Upon inspection, the plastic "ratchet" point on the wheel had simply worn away. The wheel can still be manually opened, but it is no longer a full 90 degrees from the truck body. When hauling a load with this wheel in a "pigeon-toe" position, the handtruck can become wobbly, so the user has to slow down, especially when making a turn. I may have had higher expectations of this hand truck since it carries a well-known brand name. One thing about this hand truck, if you look at the product picture is the horizontal support bar (not the bar with the logo and the button) which is part of the handle that slides up and down. The user pushes on the button to allow the handle to go up or down. Be careful with objects that stick out the back of the hand truck when opening or closing this hand truck. The horizontal bar acts as a "guillotine" and objects sticking out the back may be shifted or dislodged when the bar hits it (learned the hard way). So make sure notjhing is sticking out when the hand truck is being opened or closed. One more point, this hand truck requires two hand operation to open and close since the button on the logo bar has to be pressed while simultaneously pulling up or pushing down on the handle to fully extend or to close the hand truck. Some other hand trucks, notably the Magna-Cart, allows one-hand operation by squeezing the top handle with a second bar to extend and close the cart. (And the Magna-Cart avoids the "guillotine" effect because it doesn't have a sliding second horizontal bar on the back of its folding hand trucks.)

I bought this thinking it could easily handle the 30 pounds or so that I planned to roll around, but boy was I wrong. I put on the two "banker boxes" that totaled about 35 pounds and rolled it from the parking lot to my office. It made it there ok, but on the way back the wheels started wobbling so much that they started to canter about 30 degrees. So the hand truck lasted for about a total distance of about 100 yards (over smooth concrete with no bumps or stairs).

Wheel broke on the second use. Plastic should have been metal.
I was moving a 5 gallon bucket of paint down 3 steps, wheel broke when I got to the bottom of the third step. And yes I was going very slow and easy not to break it but more importantly spill the paint. I will try to return and buy a better one.

Perfect for my purposes (occasional, modest volume/weight household stuff loads). Folds flat and small for permanent stowage in the trunk of our car. Totes 3 apple boxes full of books no problem. Well made. A sturdy combination of heavy duty plastic and welded steel. Thoughtful touch: comes with a bunge cord for securing the load.

After moving light stuff around a half year, the wheel got bent inside. The folding design concept is good, but the wheel won't stay 90 degrees even with light luggage. They always remain slightly inward, which makes wheels wobble and worn out very quickly.
