  • Plug Jack, an all access slot design for fast plug removal
The Milwaukee Hole Dozer Hole Saw features Rip guard, the strongest tooth form in the industry, backed by the Rip guard limited lifetime tooth break warranty. But if you don't have a drill press or a very heavy duty hand drill and the ability to put your piece of work in a vice, be prepared to take a small beating. This hole saw will "catch" and want to twist your arm off. A small drill will simply not take the punishment if you have multiple holes to drill (I was making a wine rake in red oak and had 15 holes to drill). Worked great in my drill press or when I used my heavy duty hammer drill and vice in non-hammer mode. When I tried to use my regular DeWalt electric (corded) drill, it liked to beat me to death. And I was only drill partial holes.

I own 3 sizes ranging from 1” to 4.25” and am very happy with the quality and the durability of these saws. Those 1st time DIY’ers among you will want to use a drill with side handle as there is kick-back during use depending on the material to be cut and weight of the drill you’re working with. I just finished installing 12 recessed lights using both the 3.25” and 4.25” sizes which required overhead work on a 9’ drywall ceiling. Both drills left no chipping or unwanted marks as the cut is very clean. Removal of the cutout material is also super easy. Great product well worth the money!

It is constructed out of a flat blade that is wrapped around the core and welded to form a cylinder. The problem is, the cutting end on the 6 samples I looked at was noticeably not round. This means you're cutting more material than you need to since the groove it cuts is wider than it needs to be. The other problem with its construction is that, when they cut the flat blade to length, they paid no attention where the teeth were. The first sample I got had a partial tooth that would quickly fill up with cut metal and make the saw unusable until I cleaned it.

May have got a dud, but I only needed 4 holes for a special project... the first hole cut like butter, I was very impressed. The next three however, I had to fight with to no end to get this to cut. Since it was a special project, I will probably never use it again, which is good. I kind of feel like I wasted my money except that I did finally get the four holes I needed. I did have to use my scroll saw to clean up the edges on the 2nd - 4th holes though. It's the first and last Milwaukee anything I will ever use or purchase.

I called ( our Home Depot is in Redding some thirty miles from home in Shingletown. I like to call to find out if an 'odd' tool or product is available before I drive down. One of the two guys who is capable of checking stock... is good and one is terrible. Seems I practically always get the worthless one... anyway trying to get this guy to check "up on the shelves" is nearly impossible. He told me on the phone they didn't have one. He has made this mistake before and because I needed the dang hole cutter I re-checked on-line. Sure enough; there was one.. and from that point forward it was easy-peazy... So yeah. great tool, easy on-line purchase and excellent facilitated pick-up... but one of the two store tool guys is really worthless.

I find the carbide teeth not well suited for steel or plastic because it is TOO SHARP! I am used to the regular bimetal holesaws that cut well enough. The carbide teeth on these hole dozers grab too much in the material and skew the bit causing the pilot drill to snap off. The 5 inch hole cutter is worse given the large diameter. It amplifies the torque. It actually bent the backer plate of the saw and cross threaded the saw onto my arbor and now BOTH HAVE TO BE REPLACED!! Yes the arbor pin locks were in place and the saw was not fully seated on the threads as it should be. I hope it is more forgiving in wood but I'm not very hopeful. PROBABLY BEST USED IN A DRILL PRESS! Freehand drilling will be a serious challenge for even the most seasoned power tool user.

If you have a project that requires a serious hole saw tool then this is it. I was able to easily cut a hole in a metal panel with this tool. I failed on a previous attempt to cut a hole in metal with a cheap hole saw kit. The only negative IMO is that these are very expensive as individual pieces/sizes. As they say...you get what you pay for and this is no exception.

For the cleanest holes, screw the saw completely to the arbor. Where speed and torque is paramount, back the saw off a bit and engage the steel pins. That trick allows the saw to wiggle a bit, and that helps clear saw-dust for faster cutting. The escape slots are pretty convenient for removing stuck plugs. I really like the arbor / chuck. It's very easy to use and allows fast changing of saws.
