do you have a replacement for a tape that has a slight break in it

I have a 25' tape that i recently purchased and just after a short while, less than a month, the tape cracked at the 6" mark. What can i do to repair/replace this item. thanks ken

I know this question is antiquated, but I felt a driving urge to respond so people that read this will know. Take it back to Home Depot and get a new one. They have excellent support. Milwaukee doesn't need to be involved. Just tell them the truth - "I am not happy with the durability of this product. It broke far too easily."

Is this lifetime warranty

Asked by: Champ
It has a limited lifetime warranty, not unconditional. Probably covered for defects in material and workmanship, but not for things like stepping on the tape, other abuse. You could call Milwaukee at 1-800-SAWDUST to ask their exact policy.

25 ft. General Contactor Tape Measure is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 175.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hook easily bends I really liked this tape measure, it slides in and out smoothly, the feel of it is nice, the magnet and the wide end to hook and measure from. This tape measure was to replace my 16' Klein Tape Measure (Klein Tools 93116) as the magnets shattered off the end hook. This tape measure replaced it very well and I was very happy until a week after using it I noticed the end hook is bent from normal use, this end hook is of very thin fragile material and I was extremely disappointed. ***View customer pictures*** I'm an electrician mainly measuring EMT conduit, I use a tape measure very often and not in any abusive aggressive manner. I'm not sure when this exactly happened, it's never been lodged, stuck, crimped in any way, it's EMT conduit after all. If it wasn't for the hook being so fragile, this would easily be a 5-star tape measure, and most likely may favorite as well, everything else about it is very smooth and almost flawless. CONCLUSION: Very fragile hook that bends with pressure (At least it did for me). ***View customer pictures***

Pros *Finger stop is very useful. *The regular stop works well. *The base has enough grip to stay on the ground without a lock when pulling back off an object on the floor *The back is useful measuring heights with "u-bend method". *The casing is very durable. *Magnet is sometimes helpful for measurements but amazing for picking up dropped metal objects from the ladder. The magnet is very strong, it can hold a 3/4" compression coupling. Cons *The end bends very easily, mine eventually bent enough to break off. *The first inch is almost unreadable. *The magnet can sometimes make measurements more difficult by snapping to other other objects. *The belt snap at the back doesn't fit standard clips-ons on tool belts well. Used it for 3 months before it broke on a job site before it the end broke off. I would recommend this tape if the end didn't bend so easy (and eventually break off). A coworker broke the tape itself after about 3 months as well, but I never had issues with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from close, but not quite I bought this tape because I am currently working with metal studs and a magnetic tape is super helpful when trying to get a layout for the studs,etc.. As others have said, this thing won't stay upright when I set it down to make a measurement because of the finger guard design, which is rounded. How could they possibly have thought that was a good idea? Other gripes: because of the magnet placement I cannot read the lines from 1-2 inches on the front, and the tape itself is not very durable (it bent in several places after just a couple of uses- not abuses). Nice features: the magnets work pretty well, and having a reading on the back is awesome. I haven't used the scale rule on the back yet for blueprints, but I think that could be a useful feature too. All in all, this could be a great tape measure if they just did a little redesign. But as it is now, I would maybe look elsewhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Was disappointed in the performance I was in the market for a good quality tape ,price was not a huge factor. I spent 20 to 30 minutes scrutinizing what was available and decided on the Milwaukee 25 ft. with the magnetic end since I put an addition on our home built out of steel. In comparing features and price I really was impressed with all the features on this tape. Today I was laying out some 2x4's for a deck railing and boom, the tape kept falling over and sometimes hit the ground. Not good in the work I do! The body is somewhat rounded with a small flat area which is not large enough to keep the tape upright when laying something out. I guess I'm in agreement with BillC that some improvements need to be made. I like the sturdy head on it but it makes the first inch hard to read.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 25-Foot Milwaukee Magnetic Tape Measure Doesn't Hold Up to the Mark Saw it on sale and thought it would be a nice addition to my tool box, but was wrong. Biggest flaw is that it doesn't stand up when the blade is extended and you lock the blade. So when measuring wood and other non-metallic products (like sheet rock), the body of the ruler rolls over, causing the end of the tape to detach from the edge of the object you are measuring. Guess it would be a much better tool if I was working with metal products. Going back to my old Stanlely 25-footer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Tape Measure....Until The Blade Broke After 3 Months I really liked this tape measure. I have had at least 10 or 12 different tapes over the years and this one was clearly my favorite. The blade stand out was long and steady. The numbers on the blade are easy to read on both sides of the blade. I dropped it more than a few times at job sites and no problems at all. The only minor issues was that the tape would not securely sit up right on a board and you can't really use the first 1" of the tape due to the large hook attachment system. I have had this tape for a bit over three months and the blade is broken almost half way through. Of course, it has passed the 3 month return for Home Depot and Milwaukee will only work on the tape if I mail it to a regional repair center, which is many hundreds of miles away. Not much of a warranty when you have to spend almost as much to use the warranty.

The nylon bond does not hold up as well as they claim. I can usually get about 6 months out of a fatmax but I have not even been able to get 3 months out of the milwaukee tape measures. The first one broke at about the 1 inch mark. The nylon bond started peeling apart on the second one and made certain spots basically unreadable. The marketing behind their coating is a complete lie. It does not give you any more longevity on a job site. As far as I can tell, it is much worse than the classic design. Their lifetime warranty is a joke as well. You need to send it in to an authorized service center on your dollar and wait a couple weeks to get a new one. You can't take it back to where you bought it for some reason. Usually Milwaukee tools a pretty good but I really did not have good luck with either of the tapes I tried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best tape measure I've ever owned! From the first time I held the measure, I could tell it was great. The body of this tape measure feels extremely sturdy, which is great because I tend to drop it pretty often, and the tape feels incredibly durable, too. Seriously, the thing just feels like it was born ready to work. Cool features include dual magnets on the tab for a stronger, more secure hold, a brilliant finger protector (shown in one of the pictures) to keep your hand from feeling the pain of the retracting tape/tab, and numbering on both the front AND the back of the tape measure!
