Does the expandable Redstick fit?

Asked by Shaggy September 26, 2020

Answer

I'm pretty sure it won't fit. The case is sized to fit box-beam and I-beam levels; I as I recall the Milw. extendable level would be too wide at about 4". I own a Stabila 10' extendable plate level which is about 4" wide by 1" thick that will not slide into this case. Milwaukee makes a foldable case for it's longer extendable levels, but I'm not sure it makes one for your level; check with them. Otherwise, you may need to look at other companies' cases.

Will this fit the Milwaukee concrete screed levels, 48in, and 24in?

I don't own the 48" bag, but the 72" version of this can't really handle the concrete screeds. I can force one of them in if I really struggle with it, but it's not possible to fit another into a different pocket. Too fat. Perhaps this 48" version doesn't have the same problem.

On the back side of the bag there is a Velcro pouch where the 2 ft. level is stored.

Built very well and padded really well. Carries all my Kapro levels and my yard stick dor the laser...Very durable...Only complaint if any....the two velcro straps that come sewn on should be reversed so they are more handy...Gonna have my own sewn on...Top of the line quality...Would spend more on it...

The 48" level storage bag has 3 pockets that can fit up to three different size levels, a 48” box, up to a 24” box and a 10”/12” torpedo level. I found this to be ideal so that you have all levels you will need at the jobsite. The storage bag is made from tough, water resistant nylon with all metal hardware and durable zipper closures to ensure ultimate durability. It also includes 2 integrated carrying handles that can also act as hang handles for easy transport and storing. It has an external storage and integrated tool loops for additional storage of tools and/or building materials.

(What's this)
I was given a chance to check out the Milwaukee 78” 4-Pocket Level Bag, model MLSB78. I'm not a professional tradesperson, so this review will come from the viewpoint of a homeowner/DIY'er. I don't yet have a 78" level, but do have a 4 footer, a 2 footer, and a 9" "torpedo" style level. Good levels aren't inexpensive and I occasionally transport mine in my 4x4 to help out friends or relatives with various to-do projects. Around my shop I keep the levels well out of harm's way but in a truck or being carried to-and-fro does add some risk of breakage. Sort of like carrying your custom made pool cue around in a sack or having a padded case for it. First, the published specs - the MLSB78 is made of 1680D and 600D Nylon Construction. It's not water proof, but is water resistant. It has a carrying handle and a removable carry strap that connects via the usual swivel mounts. The bag offers integrated external tool loops for additional tool storage and two vent holes to help prevent water or dirt build up. Fit and finish is top drawer, and the zippers are well constructed. Padding is well done in the pockets and offers good protection for the tools. Milwaukee advertises this unit as coming with "four pockets", one for each size of level listed. I've gotta take issue with Milwaukee on this claim; I could find only 3 "pockets". I posted a question on the Home Depot site and a Milwaukee rep noted that my missing pocket was actually the fold-over Velcro pouch on the reverse side of the bag. I'm sorry - but the Velcro pouch isn't really a pocket, being open on both ends. To me, this leaves open the possibility that the 2' level will fall or slide out un-noticed. The Velcro does grip the level quite well - but a zippered pocket would be better. I should note that, at this point, I'm storing 3rd party (non-Milwaukee) levels in the bag, so a 2 foot Milwaukee might fit in the 'pouch' better than my knock off brand level. For the remaining three true pockets, protection is simply excellent; the zippers on the long level pockets do a nice job of sealing things, and there's a flap over each pocket to secure the tools. For the 'torpedo' level there's no closing flap but the elastic that grips the pocket keeps things well secured. Other than the (to me) slightly off-key advertising of "four pockets" (actually 3 pockets and a Velcro pouch) this thing works better than I'd hoped. Levels slide in and out easily, the hardware is all metal and substantial, and the thing can be carried by the bag handle, slung over the shoulder with the strap, or attached to a rolling toolbox using the included strapping. Plenty of padding. In the shop, of course, my levels will be stored as they always are - protectively out of harm's way but within reach. For transport - I don't think the Milwaukee bag would help in something heavy bending the tools if something really heavy was dropped on the bag. But for keeping the tools from sliding about the back of the 4x4 this thing is really effective. Of course it's nice that you can carry four levels of various sizes in one hand as well - but to me it's the protection the bag offers the tools in transport is the deal maker. I was really tempted to knock off a star because of the "pocket vs. pouch" issue but The Boss insists that I'm nit picking and that anyone (other than me, apparently) would know that the pouch was for securing a two foot level and that the odds of the thing being lost are next to zero. Since The Boss is always right (except when she isn't) I'll do what she says and leave the rating at the top tier. The bag is that good. HTH Regards, Jim
