I have no doubt this wrench will be passed on to my children. The photo on the HD website doesn’t depict how large this thing is. It weighs 35 pounds and has a limited lifetime warranty. If you have shopped other brands for a 48 inch pipe wrench you know that this Milwaukee is a good valve especially for the quality. I also like the fact that the jaw has a scale on it so you know when you are close to the size of pipe you are working on. For a licensed plumber this is a must have. The jaws open to 6 inches. Homedepot.com also has this Milwaukee pipe wrench in 36 inches (5 inch jaw) and 60 inches (8 inch jaw).

The teeth have a nice aggressive pitch rather than being symmetrical like some lesser wrenches. We had a competitors more expensive (by over $100) wrench on hand and preferred the Milwaukee. The action is fairly smooth by comparison when opening and closing the jaw. The overbite helps grab the pipe when you max out the jaw. It does open farther than the manufacturers claim for square fittings etc. Just make sure all the threads are engaged before you torque on it. Zero flex and great bite. Highly recommend this beast. You find a lot of uses for a wrench this big once you have it on hand.

Everybody thought it was a joke when I showed up to work with my newly obtained Milwaukee 48 in. Steel Pipe Wrench. Nobody was laughing when it was put to work. While installing an RPZ backflow valve we ran into a problem when all of the pipe wrenches we had were millimeters short of opening wide enough to fit the final connector. Guys were jumping on their phones trying to find somebody close that could bring a larger wrench. That's when I remembered the monster Milwaukee nobody thought would ever see any use. Not only did it complete the job but it did it with ease. Although Milwaukee advertises it as smaller, I measured a full 7 in. jaw opening. It will tackle the BIG jobs. One word of caution, it is heavy. You might have problems with it in tight spaces or working solo. Glad to add it to my growing collection of excellent Milwaukee tools.

Unlike the picture in the online listing, this is definitely a two handed pipe wrench. It is solidly built, witch in this size wrench means it is heavy. But is you need to work on 3" pipe, it will do the job. The adjusting barrel works well. though the jaws will bind if they are not inline. But this is a common problem with pipe wrenches. The jaws open nice and wide. But you can not take full advantage of this because the throat of the wrench is only 4" deep. limiting the size of the pipe you can get a good grip on. With a wrench of this heft, the last thing you want is the wrench to slip on you.

If you need a massive Pipe wrench The MILWAUKEE 48-inch Steel Pipe Wrench is the one to get. This pipe wrench is made for big jobs requiring a strong heavy duty pipe wrench. The forty eight inch handle gives you good leverage and you may not need a cheater pipe. This is not a wrench that most people would use every day but when you need a wrench for a big job this is the one.

Milwaukee has rightly earned a stellar reputation in the tool industry for their design and manufacturing processes that meet the needs of professionals and DIY’ers alike. This 48” STEEL pipe wrench does nothing to reduce that reputation. This pipe wrench is obviously for large jobs, not for simple under-sink issues. The teeth on this macho wrench are pitched to insure a secure grip on the pipe and the only cautionary note is to make sure the pipe is strong enough to handle the pressure. It easily handles a 6” pipe and the additional feature of clearly marked opening size is a time saver. The action is very smooth and consistent with little or no ‘slop’ or flex. I highly recommend this Milwaukee steel pipe wrench.

It replaced an aluminum model that we were actually able to break. It is a bit heavier but stronger and allows the torque needed to make lighter work of pipe or control valve replacement. It will easily take a 6" pipe and the over bite designed into the tool makes for a much safer use. You will need two of these for many applications. This tool is for big jobs and not for general plumbing. Care needs to taken on removal of old rusty pipe as this will crush pipe and pipe threads. The jaws are marked in inches for easy set up prior to putting it on the pipe.

This wrench weighs in at about 32 pounds and personal protection equipment is highly recommended as you do not want to drop this on a foot or get pinched by it. The typical homeowner will never need a wrench this large. Mine is out at the farm where we do have some things big enough to put it to use. The jaw adjusting nut works smoothly and there are inch marking on the jaw, conveniently set diagonally to match the frame, to let you get close to the correct setting. The finish is excellent and it is a very durable wrench that will likely last for hundreds of years.
