Do these throw any sparks when cutting carbon steel? If so, is it heavy or light?

Asked by Dave November 1, 2020

Answer

These blades can throw sparks. Like any blade, when contacting metal, especially steel, can produce sparks. My experience has produced few sparks. But friction of metal blades against metal products produces heat in all situations and are always capable of producing sparks.

Can this be used for Hardie trim?

Asked by KG October 8, 2019

Answers

This will probably work better than a "standard" reciprocating blade, but it is NOT recommended. HardieTrim recommends cutting ONLY with a specific dust-reducing circular saw and PCD (polycrystalline diamond) tipped blade certified for HardieTrim products, preferably in conjunction with a HEPA dust collecting vacuum. A NIOSH respirator with appropriate filters would also be highly recommended. Also, for reference, PCD is generally more than 25x longer-lasting than carbide, so even with the greater amount of teeth in this product (sharing the wear) vs the 4-6 teeth typical of circular saw blade designed for HardieTrim, this may still wear faster than you expect.

I used them to cut 3/8" x 6" structural C-Channel, they are too slow. Ended up using grinders with cut-off wheels, finished cutting 19 pieces in less than 2 hours.

Cuts right through cast iron pipe!
I bought these blades for cutting cast iron sewer pipe. They cut right through it easily and last for several cuts before needing replacement. While these blades will fit any reciprocating saw, cutting cast iron requires a high power professional model.

I used this to cut an exhaust pipe and a couple rusted on bolts for an exhaust pipe. Worked good at first but the carbide teeth didn't stay on very long. Part of that may be because the thin wall of the pipe might have caused too much impact. Probably should only be used on a fairly think piece of material to reduce that impact. The used regular bi-metal pipe saws I had with fine teeth seemed to cut through at the same speed and not have all the teeth dulled after. See picture after cutting two nutswith the 10mm bolts in them and one 2" diameter exhaust pipe.

So I had the task of removing a 3 section cast iron steam boiler from my basement that weighed over 600lbs. A friend of mine and tried taking it out strapped to an appliance hand truck and for the life of us we couldn't move it up the stairs. I tried convention diamond sawzall blades and the cast iron destroyed them in about 2 minutes and they couldn't cut through. Then I said for the heck of it let me try one of these. This blade demolished that cast. I was floored at the speed it cut through. About 1 minute a section and through a 1/4 inch central pipe and the boiler fell apart. I will and would 100% reccomend these blades for any serious metal work.

These blades are magic.
I know the intention of these blades is nail embedded wood. They passed that test, so I pushed it. They cut 4” cast iron pipe fast (Same blade but longer). I used to go through 4 specialty blades for that task. Yesterday I cut a cast iron tub in half with this blade fairly quickly. It was already dull from months of use. Your choice, 1 Milwaukee AX carbide blade for a few more bucks, or 75 blades from their competitors

Worth every penny
I had a 4" cast iron sewer pipe with a clean out that would not break free. I needed to cut the clean out off the pipe to snake the line but didn't want to spend the money on a cast iron cutter. I saw online that you could cut the pipe with a sawzall but it had to have the right metal blade to be able to cut. I must say I was a little sceptical. I walked into home depot and saw the Milwaukee torch blade for 15.97 and thought "that much for a sawzall blade?" Once I got home and started cutting into the cast iron I now see why it was 15.97. It cut thru the cast iron like butter. So if you're ever in a jam and need a blade to cut thru tough, thick metal, this is the blade you need. Thank you Milwaukee for making a tough job much easier.

This blade is a beast! I already had the non carbide version of this blade so I can definitely say the carbide version rips through whatever. I definitely think having a high powered saw to use with this blade would be very beneficial. Because it just seemed to want to chew through everything. But I'm using a fuel Sawzall so it's all good to go!

(What's this)
The 9 inch 5 TPI AX Carbide Teeth Demo Nail Embedded Wood Cutting SAWZALL blades by Milwaukee are absolutely amazing and are well worth the investment. I have really put them to the test of the past couple of months and they have not failed one bit. I have used these blades to cut pallets, cut up some aged deadwood branches as well as on small demolition projects. Nothing stopped these blades. They are about 50% thicker than most blades out there. This helps reduce the chance of bending you blades and adds to the overall durability. Additionally, the “Fang Tip” helps the blade plunge quicker, which will also reduce kickbacks as well as0 the chance of bending the blade. In picture No. 2 you’ll be able to see the thickness of the blade in comparison to another manufacturer. In picture No. 3 you’ll see what the blade looks like after a days worth of use. It is still in great shape, the teeth are intact and sharp and ready for more action.

Spend a little more and get a blade that will survive the harshest demands. Resurfaced a 25 year old 2x6 treated deck with composite. The undercarriage was still sound so decided to save some bucks by leaving in place.I did have to cut old rusted nails and screws to remove decking which was time consuming but these blades held up to many cuts. Most of the cuts were flat and blade got hot but held up.After all the decking was removed I than cut all the decking to smaller pieces with the same blade without a problem. Milwaukee has set a new standard with these blades. Worth the couple extra bucks.

(What's this)
The Milwaukee 6 in. 5 TPI AX Carbide Teeth reciprocating saw blade is a versatile blade. I picked up these blades up for demo work around the house but my first use was cutting through several small hardwood stumps in the front yard. The aggressive 6 in. 5 TPI AX Carbide Teeth cut through the small stumps quickly. To cut the stumps, I made several angled cuts into stump combined with a horizontal cut to remove the piece of wood. The carbide teeth cut through the wood with speed and steady progress. The blade design cleared the saw dust with each stroke. Other blades I’ve used would bog down. The blade is referred to as” The Ax with Carbide Teeth” and I agree. I didn’t cut through nails in this use but the tooth design is similar to the Milwaukee blade call “The Torch” so I’m sure nails would not be a problem. I like this blade as a good all-around demolition blade. It cut through wet, dense hardwood with no issues. When required, the “Fang Tip” will provide fast plunging on thin sheet wood. Great multi-purpose demo blade.
