Answer

About 60 pounds

Is this wrench the right tool to change a kitchen sink faucet ?

Asked by tenderfoot July 23, 2020

Answers

No, this wrench is much larger then what is needed to change a faucet. You would be lucky to get this in position and even if you did you probably wouldn't have much turning radius or working room. You can complete the job with a smaller wrench.

After needing to open the clean-out on my sewer, I needed a wrench large enough to accomplish it. This wrench worked great. It is heavy enough to feel very solid in the hand and the extra weight helps with the leverage. Changing the size is easy with a twist of the screw. The best part is I won’t have to borrow a pipe wrench anymore because I have my own!

At 21 lbs, you don't need this for routine DIY projects but it would work great for large radiator pipe connections, well pipe drops, 4" pipe work, and large equipment repair requiring extra leverage. The 28" handle is great for leverage. Grips open to 5" and have markings for 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2, 3 3 1/2, 4, 4 1/2, and 5". Jaw grip itself is 4" long. Smooth adjusting gear is another nice feature.

Wow, what an upgrade from my little pipe wrench! I debated between a couple sizes and glad I settled for this 24" model. Anything bigger would not be useful around the home. Maybe an 18" might still work for under sink work but this size will be useful for larger projects without having to use a cheater bar to gain leverage. Milwaukee tools have been outstanding and will continue to purchase them from my favorite HD store.

The Milwaukee 12-inch Smooth Jaw Pipe Wrench resembles the old Monkey Wrench that was sold in earlier years, (designed by Loring Cole in 1840 and provided in the Ford Model A’s). The similarity is uncanny, but the versatile use of the Milwaukee Smooth Jaw Pipe Wrench has out performed anything close to that design or any other design built on a similar platform. I am not a professional plumber, but I found uses for this wrench in other ways. The first note is that it is similar to the design of a spanner wrench (AKA, Crescent Wrench, invented in 1891). Both the spanner and the Milwaukee wrench have smooth adjustable jaws and used to tighten or loosen various sizes of hex or square nuts. The Milwaukee Smooth Jaw Wrench has improved on that design by making the jaws much deeper and wider (2-5/8”) than a 12’ spanner wrench, thus able to have a tighter grip. I think it is also easier to tighten the Milwaukee Smooth Jaw Wrench simply because it has a larger knurl nut (important for arthritic fingers) than the much smaller knurl nut on a spanner or Crescent Wrenches. The ergonomic handle made it easy to have a strong grip with no discomfort, which worked well, especially well in tight spaces. I used the Milwaukee wrench recently while changing a plastic oil filter, it was compact to fit into the cramped space of a Ford 6.0 and did not leave any distortion or damage on the plastic nut. There are many uses for the Milwaukee Smooth Jaw Wrench outside of plumbing. This is a good tool to have in the tool box for those times a spanner wrench or slip joint pliers just can’t handle, or when you don’t want to leave any damage.

Great solid high quality product. The wrench has a parallel grip with a smooth jaw. The smooth jaw is great for working on finished surfaces without leaving marks on whatever you are tightening or loosening. The parallel grip ensures a tight grip on whatever you are working with. The adjustment is made with very smooth operation. The overall quality of the wrench is very high with the contractor in mind. I would strongly recommend to anyone that does any pipe work and is looking for a top of the line wrench!! Great leverage!! A++

This wrench is for tough nuts. At 55 pounds and five feet long it is not easy to use but it really gets the job done. I have some abandoned farm equipment that I wanted to dismantle to use the steel for projects and none of my smaller wrenches were up to the task, but this wrench succeeded easily. The wrench opens to over eight inches which is more than I have ever needed in the past, so I doubt I will ever need a larger wrench.

The wide jaw adjustment makes this a very versatile and tough tool. The construction is top notch, but that is no surprise from Milwaukee. The tool functions as you would expect. It easily handles tubing and the 24" handle allows you to create leverage for busting loose metal piping. The overbiite of the jaw gives you maximum coverage to tighten and loosen most pipes.

This thing is a beast of a pipe wrench. Great for commercial use and for some extreme leverage when needed. The teeth on it have a great bite so it won’t slip when your really pushing it. The adjustment is smooth and adjust fairly quick for its size. It feels really heavy duty and held up good even when we had to push on it with 2 people to open a old hydrant. Didn’t feels any flex in it considering it’s long. It’s pretty heavy but when using something this size its obvious your dealing with some heavy work. Good heavy duty product

Milwaukee is doing really good on all their plumbing tools they are adding. This pipe wrench is heavy duty as they come with the bite on the jaws grabbing really strong when I really needed to remove some really tight old gas lines. It’s a little heavy but it didn’t bother me because usually I need good leverage when using a pipe wrench and the weight helps in some situations. The adjustment is pretty smooth and didn’t bind up on me even when I really leveraged it. Actually the adjustment is works really well. All in all I’d recommend it because I’m pretty sure once you buy a pipe wrench of this quality you won’t need to probably ever buy one again.
