Is it ok to use this blade for cutting vinyl siding? If not what blade is recommended?

Asked by: Jgum1961
I personally wouldn’t suggest it as vinyl is rather unforgiving. Your best method would be a Circular saw with a vinyl cutting blade or a high tooth count blade to get clean and accurate cuts with less chip out, the more teeth the better. You could also give it the Ol’ Reliable treatment and score it with a razor knife and patience.

7 in. Steelhead Diamond Cut Off Blade is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lives up to the hype Industrial diamonds have revolutionized stone cutting and polishing, and it's nice to see them making it into products for the ordinary contractor. I was skeptical, at first, that this blade would live up to the considerable hype. Then I used it. It cuts a little faster than an abrasive blade, but that's not its real advantage. It lasts and lasts and lasts. I didn't notice any change in the blade after cutting 1/4" steel repeatedly. I would have to set up a considerably harder test to really put this blade through its paces. Abrasive blades -- use them once, then throw them out. You'll have a hard time killing this blade. The sparks produced are numerous and very bright, suggesting higher temperatures, but this didn't translate into significant burning of the cut (no more than abrasives.) There was some buildup on the cuts, but nothing a quick pass with the grinder won't solve (same as for abrasives, really.) I have no idea how long this lasts, but you're going to get significant use out of it.

I got this 5" Milwaukee Steelhead metal/stainless blade for several projects around my house. I needed a blade that could cut many different metals and this fit the bill. Some important notes: 1. It does come with an insert so it can be used with both 5/8" & 7/8" arbor sizes 2. It's for metal only 3. Make sure you mount the blade with the correct rotation direction 4. It can be used up to 12.000 max RPM 5. You'll need to discard the blade if dropped, cracked, chipped or FROZEN... so it's not good to leave it in the truck in freezing temps or in an unheated garage or shed. 6. While cutting it doesn't have a chemical smell like the cheaper wheels. 7. The blade keeps it's size as you use it, unlike the cheaper cutoff blades that get smaller & smaller It's been used to cut angle iron, metal pipe, copper pipe, rebar, threaded rod and a rusted pad lock that the key wouldn't work. still cuts like new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonder Blade The blade says it can last about 74 X longer than a regular cut off blade. I was a little doubtful. See the pictures of the job we took on. About 3000 LBS. of stainless that had to be cut from regular steel to scrap for full value. We used 36 regular blades to cut 1/2 of the work and 1 Milwaukee 49‑93‑7805 4‑1/2" Steelhead Diamond blade to do the rest. The blade still has life left in it. You do the math. I figured I saved at least 85% on blade costs with the using this blade. It paid for itself after using 9 of the other kind. I still have a very usable product This blade can produce more sparks so use all safety gear and dress so no skin is exposed. You will also find that using this blade is a bit slower than the other kind. However the saving are well worth it. Remember that for most, this blade will be used in short time jobs. I would probably lose the blade long before I could wear it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Blade I've been using this Milwaukee 14" Steelhead blade in my chop saw for a month or so, mostly cutting conduit, strut and threaded rod, and have been very happy with it's performance. Cuts are definitely both a good bit quicker and noticeably cleaner over your standard abrasive blade. The performance is great, but the real seller here is the cutting lifespan of these Steelhead blades, and the savings both in the cost over the dozens of abrasive blades that you'd go through in the span that just one of these will last, and in the hassle of always having a stack of those abrasive blades handy. Even if you don't see quite the 75x longer life quoted, at even $10 for a cheap abrasive blade locally, it's not difficult to do the math. These are available in 4", 4-1/2", 5", 6", 7", 12" and 14" diameters. I plan on grabbing one for each of my angle grinders. Give 'em a try!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Sweet Diamond Cut Off Blade !!! Yes, it's a pricey blade, but if Milwaukee's claims about this blade hold true, it's more than paid for itself if you were using any other blade, or abrasive wheel. Milwaukee puts claims that this blade will last up to 75x the life of their standard bonded abrasives, mainly abrasive wheels. I've always had somewhat of a safety reservation using abrasive wheels. The bottom line is they have somewhat of a danger factor in their use. Once they start wearing, they have a tendency to break off. With this blade, you don't have those chances. It is a safe, reliable blade to use for all your metal cutting. Using this blade, it cuts through metal with ease. I wouldn't say it's a hot knife through butter, but it's effortless in it's cut. I can't comment on the longevity of this blade, as I've not used it nonstop however, after using is for a collective 4-hours, I didn't notice any wear on the diamond cutting edges of this blade whatsoever. So far, I am very satisfied with this blade, and Highly Recommend it!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Take it for a spin - great blade! A little background... I am remodeling a home with my brother-in-law. We are recycling all the metal removed from the home. (see photos) This included vent pipes, 1/2 " and 3/4" galvanized / copper pipes and some very large metal tubing from a custom made arbor. He was using his grinder with a 4" abrasive disk while I went to work with my Skilsaw using the Milwaukee 7" Steelhead diamond cut off blade. End result... The Milwaukee 7" Steelhead diamond cut off blade is outstanding alternative to traditional abrasive disks. Definitely resulted in much faster cutting speeds over abrasive blades. Based on my limited testing you should get a long life out of the blade.
