A: Hi Art! The bits are held tightly in individual slots inside the handle.
by|Apr 6, 2020
A: Friction. Sometimes you will have to use another bit to get a new one out. They are pretty snug, you don't have to worry about them falling out.
by|Jun 11, 2021
A: The bits a snug inside the handle but slide in & out well.
by|Jun 9, 2020
A: The storage slots in the handle are held in by friction. They're just a little "bit" smaller that the driver itself. They hold in just fine and are easily slip out when needed.

It can be an excellent tool
I got this as a combo along with the full-sized ratchet screwdriver (48-22-2322C).
It's very close to being an excellent tool. What's really good about it is the magnetic bit retention at the jaw as well as the fact that it accepts shorter bits. This tool's downfall is its length. If you had made this 1" shorter it would be a 5-star product as it would be the only stubby screwdriver you would ever need. Please change the spec to accept 1" bits and you'll have a winner.

It's ok but huge design flaw
Just got this yesterday. It works ok, nothing special, but a huge design flaw and misrepresented on the back of the packaging. It says that it has a "Pass Through Handle Design", which to most people means that there are openings on the upper portion. Not so. If you push through it is blocked. You can only push down backwards. The other models I had you could use one bit to push the the new bit you needed out, or even store other bits. I'm most likely going to have to return it as I can't see the use of needing another tool to pull out the bits I need. Not very well thought out.

This seems to be a good quality, solidly built tool, but it has a major design flaw. The storage slots will not hold 2" bits. I bought this with the intention of swapping out a couple of the bits that came with it for some of my own to customize it for my specific needs, but standard bits (2" or 1") do not fit in the storage slots in the handle. The 2" bits are too long, and the 1" bits are too short. Not only do I have to carry the bits that Milwaukee thinks I need rather than the ones I actually need (multiple torx or hex sizes, for example), but I also will not be able to replace the bits as they wear out or get lost. Once again, Milwaukee overlooks the obvious in its quest to get overpriced tools to market.
Without the ability to store other, standard-sized bits, this tool will prove to be largely useless. I will most likely be returning it, which is (once again) disappointing, because as far as size and use go, it fits my needs perfectly.
In the photo of the three bits, note the size of the bits that come with the driver (silver) next to the two most common size bits (black), 2" and 1" (both Milwaukee brand bits, I might add).
In the photo of the screwdriver, note the 2" (Milwaukee brand) bit sticking out from the butt end of the driver.

A LOT of capability in a small package! At only 4.5” long, this Milwaukee 8-in-1 bit driver (Model 48-22-2320) includes 7 different, high-strength driver bits, a 3-position ratchet (counter-clockwise, clockwise, and locked) and a well-contoured handle that provides a firm grip and lots of torque. The bits are held into the shaft with a perfectly sized magnet, holding the bit securely while allowing easy removal. The extra bits are stored in channels in the handle, with just enough length to fit a finger/thumb to push the bit out. Unfortunately, the fit is so tight it can be difficult to remove the bits and I often use one bit to push out others. On the plus side, there is no chance the bits will fall out by mistake. The selection of bits is excellent (2 Phillips, 2 slotted, 2 square and a Torx) and each is engraved with a part number and a size, e.g. SQ 2, T 15. The tool is perfectly weighted and balanced for my hands and the overall quality is outstanding. I generally don't like using “stubby” screwdrivers, but this unit has changed my mind.

Fit-anywhere size and able to handle a lot of torque, this little ratcheting screwdriver is convenient and can handle real jobs.
The bits are very secure in the handle and when loaded into the ¼ head they stay tight in there. They can be swapped into a power tool, which is nice to have an extra of each bit handy. The size of the tool makes it perfect for a drawer or glovebox or a small tool pouch.
If I could make one change, I’d made the cut out where the bits are stored a little deeper so when using another bit to remove the new bit, they would go out just another 1/8” out the back to make the end easier to grab. Otherwise this ratcheting driver is just about perfect. It’s worth mentioning again that this tool is tough, really tough. I didn’t expect it to handle all the torque I could put on it; impressive.

I selected the Milwaukee 8-in-1 for its small size and the included selection of bits.
What I like best about this driver is the compact size. While short the handle is still "stubby" and is easy to keep a firm grip even when turning with a couple fingers. The other feature that I really like is the ratchet action which really comes in handy in tight spots.
The ratchet action is very easy to operate and provides 3 positions: right/left/fixed.
I love the assortment of bits and how they are stored in an organized way right on the driver, however, I don't like the design of the bit holder. The design allows the bits to only be retrieved at the back of the driver handle. It is difficult to pull the friction secured bit out with just your fingers (see photo). I think Milwaukee could have designed the handle so that the bit can be pushed through; coming through the friction storage allowing it to pop out. This is the only con about this tool.

Having a compact, snub-nosed screwdriver is a must for any toolbox. Having a ratcheting, compact, multi-bit snub-nosed driver made by Milwaukee is a whole different level of quality.
This driver is exceptionally well made, to last a long time.
I've had my share of ratcheting drivers, and they've all broken within a short period of time.
Just holding this, and looking it over, it's light years above anything I've bought before.
So glad to have and use this.
Extremely pleased, and highly recommended.
