9/16 in. x 24 in. Shockwave Lineman's Impact Auger Bit

Awesome drill bit sails through wood. Note: you need a 7/16” Hex chuck to drive this big boy. In order to attach this to my Milwaukee 1/2” impact wrench I got the Milwaukee 48-66-0061 Quick Change Chuck, 1/2” square to 7/16" Hex adaptor. The drill bit comes packed in a strong transparent plastic tube which provides some protection when not being used. I ran this with a Milwaukee 1/2” impact driver with the coupler mentioned above. This combination allows holes to be drilled with ease! I was able to drill into pine wood going through 18” very fast. The end of the drill bit has a small auger that pulls the bit into the wood very well. I had to reverse the driver in order to disengage the bit. Once disengaged I was able to draw the bit out, as well as the wood chips, with the drill running in the normal direction. After drilling 7 out 8 holes, the drill bit showed no signs of wear at all. The coupling adaptor and the impact driver did get pretty hot though. An awesome drill bit and and impressive performance. This is a top quality item from design through manufacture and packaging.

Holy holes, Milwaukee! Boring is exciting with these slick drills! Leaves other drills in the sawdust..... I will need some big holes in my next project, but that job isn't ripe yet. These bits are aimed at power/phone pole work. My pole does not need a hole, but I have some fat conifer stumps to practice on. Since this is a big bit I used a cordless holehog-type driver on the 300RPM gear. Took 27 seconds to put a hole through 15 inches of gnarly pine, wow! Eats it up and spits it out! A spade-bit would have been a long slow chew and lots of clogs. When I was younger we used augers and a hand-brace, hard to believe now. Attached picture is a bunch of holes (the larger 1-1/8" size) all the way through a 15-inch trunk. Only took a few minutes. Afterwards the bit looked fresh as new. Not even pine-sap. That slick coating is great stuff. 15 inches in 27 seconds at 300RPM is almost exactly the pitch of the "Aggressive feed screw", showing that it really bites-in and pulls-along. Indeed it needs hardly any force once started. I got this for electrical runs in an old house with thick sills. But it would be dandy for pole-barns, tree houses, decks and docks, boat moorings, all kinds of big wood work. Yes, it is expensive for small jobs. This is clearly aimed at workers who need long large holes quick, easy, clean, and reliable. Tip: when you have a foot or two of spiral in the wood, you probably can't just pull it out against fiber friction. Put the drill in reverse, but watch out! With the long flute-angle it comes out much faster than it went in, less than a second. Blip the drill at low speed so you don't get knocked over.

I was making a nautical themed fence using 6" x 6" Douglas Fir pressure treated wood stock for posts & 1" diameter marine rope. I inserted this Milwaukee 1-1/8" x 24" shockwave lineman's impact auger bit into an M18 Milwaukee super hawg right angle drill. I marked & counter sunk the spot I was going to drill. I attached the extension handle onto the drill body & selected the low speed setting. I pulled the trigger & in seconds, this auger bit cut a hole through the 6" x 6" wood stock, like a hot knife through butter! The single spur, on the bit's leading edge, scored the edge of the hole, leaving a clean cut, without a splintered edge. The PTFE anti-friction coating, prevented the bit from binding. I didn't have to push the auger bit into the wood stock, as the feed screw drew the bit into the wood. The wide flute ejected the wood cuttings, to also prevent binding. This is a very heavy duty, top quality, professional auger bit.

Used this for construction of a dock and drilling through 12" diameter poles plus 6" of support beams. This bit cuts faster and removes the chips faster than the comparable Irwin. The Irwin didn't feed the wood chips out fast enough and the bit would bind inside the pole. This Milwaukee bit feeds the wood chips out fast.

I used the bit to go through a live tree to i stall several braces. When the drill failed I resorted to the 1/2 inch impact driver and this bit did the job. Really a nice value and a quality product.

Used it for landscape timbers. Worked great until I hit metal.

Worked perfectly for drilling through landscape railroad cross ties. Stacked three high. Hammered 6 foot half-inch rebar through the holes to stabilize. Worked as well on the 10th hole as it did on the first one. Used an old 50s vintage heavy 500 RPM drill. Great purchase.
