9 in. 10 TPI Torch Thick Metal Cutting SAWZALL Reciprocating Saw Blades (5-Pack)

I am a commercial HVAC tech and use these to cut through thick shafts on blower wheel assemblies and they work great! Love anything Milwaukee makes!

These blades work great for my application!

This is a fantastic price for a 10-blade pack of 9 inch demo blades. Sawzalls make quick work of demolition or remodeling, where it is easy to slip the thin blade between the stud and plate to cut the nails and remove the stud. These work great for cutting metal screws, bolts and lumber, as well as metal and plastic pipes, wires, conduits, anchors, unistrut and lumber hangers. They seem to be super-hardened, so they last a long time before the teeth get worn down. The other problem that I often encounter is the blades getting bent. Since these are an inch wide, they hold their shape better, and allow bending back straight more often without snapping off. The 9-inch long blade also means cutting completely through a 2x6 wall, including the finish material, all from one side. Demo work is hard on tools, and these take a lot of abuse before wearing out.

The Milwaukee Metal cutting blade called “The Torch” could replace a grinder or acetylene torch for some specific cuts on mild steel. I decided to try “The Torch” blade instead of a grinder preparing a 4x4, ¼ inch thick sq. tube for a rocket stove. I made 3 cuts, 2 cuts along the edge of the tube and 1 cut across the tube. The saw blade tracked well, straight along the edges and straight across the top. I’ve attached pictures to tell that story. “The Torch” blade I used was 9 inches in length and had 14 TPI. I detected essentially no wear with only 3 cuts. At ~$3 dollars a blade, these seem like a great value. I used 10-30w oil while making my cuts for lubrication and heat reduction. For projects like this, I have always used a grinder before with lots of sparks and noise. My normal set up for grinding work is outside the garage. This time, using “The Torch” I was inside the garage and only had metal cuttings to clean up. As blade technology improves so do our options. I would recommend “The Torch”, the Milwaukee metal cutting blade.

Whether I am building, renovating or doing demolition; these blades are part of my tool arsenal. It seems I am always taking apart something that has nails or screws in the assembly. These blades do very well cutting through many types of metal. I've used them to cut through angle iron, aluminum and various other soft metals. They will cut through many different types of pipe materials. Also stainless steel plate/sheet metal.

I am using these blades in my Milwaukee M18 Hackzall. I think that the biggest plus to these blades is their stiffness. Most blades especially if they are as long as these have a pronounced tendency to flex and bend. These blades are so much stiffer that they stay in alignment both vertically and horizontally. Once you get your cut started straight they stay in alignment and produce a nice true cut. So far I have made a few cuts in 1/8" mild steel material and have not noticed any dulling of the blade. i will have to wait and see how long it stays sharp but at this point it is still going through the steel as good or better than any Sawzall blade I have used.

Milwaukee Torch Metal Saw Blades We used these reciprocating saw blades to cut up old pallets where the nails were rusted in, these blades cut through them pretty easy - have used the Milwaukee brand for years and they can take a beating. Since these particular blades are meant for making tough straight cuts, they were perfect for this job. The blades are 9in x 14 TPI x 1in and the neck of the blades are made to protect against tang breaks, there is a honeycomb pattern on the blades that is to help increase the rigidity so there is less buckling. Great blades for many purposes.

This 10 pack Milwaukee 9 inch reciprocating saw blade has a long lasting life. I've cut off electrical conduit 1/2" to 1" pipe, cast iron drain pipes and metal frames with these blade in one day and still ready for some more action. These blades have an 18 teeth per inch (TPI) cutting blade for fast and easy cutting. Very convenient pack of 10 and the 1 inch width blade makes it certainly easy to use in narrow areas while having to cut out metal. I like these saw blade that match my Milwaukee SawZall. The saw blade comes in a white color and has a cool American flag made in the USA logo. I'm very happy with this product. Wonderful for demolition, renovating and cuts on point.

These are very high-quality blades that last longer than the other blades I have used in the past. They don’t get fin near the tip which helps them resist bending. You might pay a little extra for these but I think they are worth it. They make short work of any cutting job. Because they are a bit thicker they seem to stay on the cutting path better than the thinner blades.

This review is for the Milwaukee Sawzall model 48-00-1788 (“Torch”) blades. It’s important to note the model number because Milwaukee has a variety of Sawzall blades. The 1788 comes in a 10-pack and is designed for cutting medium metal (1/8” to 5/16” thick). The Sawzall style blades do not have to be used in a Milwaukee saw – I mounted a 1788 blade on a Ryobi reciprocating saw with no problems at all. The blades are made in the USA (see photo) and are 9” long (including the tang part which is held inside the saw). I had a couple of old metal trellises that I’ve been meaning to cut up and discard - normally a job for my Milwaukee angle grinder with a cutting blade mounted, but since I had the new “Torch” blades in hand I couldn’t resist trying one out. The 1788 almost went through that metal tubing in shorter time than it did for me to put a new battery in the saw and insert the blade. (Hearing, face, and hand protection are always a must when doing this kind of chore, of course). I’ve a photo below of the used saw blade and one section of the cut tubing, but it doesn’t reflect how easily the new blade cut through the metal. Being a semi-retired I.T. tech and a homeowner/DIY’er, I can’t really comment on the longevity of the blade – I don’t have any deck or cabling jobs on hand that require me to spend a long time with the reciprocating saw. But other than the paint rubbed off of the blade where it went through the metal the 1788 shows no sign of wear after my testing this morning (see photo). The blades come in a plastic blister pack; there’s no case for storage of the spare blades once the pack is opened. However, if you mix them up with other blades no worries – Milwaukee has labeled each blade with “Torch” in letters large enough that they’ll probably be visible after a lot of blade wear. That’ll make it easier to grab the right blade for the job. HTH Regards, Jim
