Another excellent tool from Milwaukee, go team red! I really like that Milwaukee got into the hand tool game because they make excellent hand tools at a good price point and this Hawkbill utility knife is no exception it is an excellent tool and I am very pleased with it. It comes with a nice plastic sheath that has a clip so that you can clip it to your belt or pants and the knife securely clips into it and I like that it has a spot in front of the sheath where you can put your thumb to make pulling the knife out of the sheath with one hand very easy. Onto the knife itself it has a very nice and stout blade that is razor sharp and holds it's edge very well. I especially like the handle on it because it is very ergonomic and comfortable, you really need to hold it to appreciate how nice the handle on it is! I like that the handle is nice and big because I have large hands, you can easily push down with your thumb on the handle or if you prefer there is a spot on the back of the blade made for your thumb so you can push down on it there as well, it also has a hole in the back of the handle so that you can add a lanyard if you want to. Overall I am extremely pleased with this knife, Milwaukee sure did their homework when they made this knife and hit a home run! I am glad to add this knife to my tool collection and I know I will get a lot of use out of it for years to come and I highly recommend it!

Sharp and sturdy hawkbill knife While I know one main use for a hawkbill knife is stripping large gauge electrical wires, I find they're super useful for all kinds of other purposes. This Milwaukee knife doesn't disappoint as it's got a secure solid plastic handle and a very sharp blade. I particularly like it for tile work to scrape out the grout joints or to pry up tiles. This knife will definitely take a beating. And the plastic sheath is a nice touch, especially because it clips onto your belt easily so you'll always have a secure way of keeping it safe. Who is this for: Anyone stripping electrical wire, doing tile work, or cutting flooring. Who isn't this for: I don't think I'd open boxes with this knife as the hawkbill would tend to plunge into the package and damage the contents. There are better knives for that anyway.

The fixed blade is very sharp, but the handle feels a bit too plastic. You can get a good grip and use the reverse blade for cutting and tearing. I guess my only complaint is that it feels a little foreign compared to other blades I use. It does come with a plastic sheath to holster the blade or store it without having the blade open to injury. Overall it is an average knife.

This review is for the Milwaukee Hawkbill Fixed Blade Knife Model # 48-22-1925; which I got a chance to check out. A while back I acquired a Milwaukee 1926 model, which is similar to the Hawkbill, only with a 4” fixed straight blade. The new 1925 makes a fine companion knife for the 1926. Very similar knives, but with somewhat different purposes in mind. A “hawkbill” blade is used frequently by cablers and electricians for stripping power and data cables. The curved blade, pointed away from your hand, gives a nice, smooth, long surface to draw across the cable insulation. In addition, the tip (or “beak”) of the hawkbill can easily penetrate the center of a cord (such as an extension cord) and separate the two “halves” into two separate pieces. Due to the curvature of the blade it’s easier to accomplish this task than it would be with a comparable straight blade knife. (I’m a semi-retired I.T. tech, DIY’er homeowner these days and try to avoid getting involved with data cable installations; however, this knife can be used for many things other than cable trimming). Hawkbill blades are also used in pruning plants and trees – again, the curvature of the blade makes keeping in contact with the work surface easier. Of course, it can also, when the need arises, be used to open boxes, cut cardboard and line, etc. Those jobs are not it’s primary purpose, but it does them pretty well. The Milwaukee 1925 hawkbill offers an oversized handle (really nice when working with gloves or with wet hands); the handle is of a rubberized material that is comfortable to hold. (These days there are so many different man-made compounds it’s difficult to say exactly what something is made of). It’s a “full tang” design, meaning that the blade/handle is all one piece of stainless steel, with the handle molded onto it. However, unlike the 1926 knife there is no exposed blade material at the rear of the handle itself – it’s fully enclosed with a lanyard hole built into the handle. The blade is listed as “stainless steel”; there are various compounds of stainless steel and the exact formula for this blade isn’t listed on the Home Depot website or the packaging. However, mine had a nice edge on it when received and after a bit of “test whittling” doesn’t seem any the worse for wear. On the top edge of the blade is a thumb rest, just in front of the handle, that allows putting a little extra guidance or pressure to bear. The knife comes with a hard plastic (??? again, specific materials elude me) sheath; the blade is held in the sheath via friction. I was not able to shake the knife out by inverting the rig and giving the sheath a few hard shakes; when it’s in, it’s in. The sheath fits my 2" tactical belt; the sheath has a "open" style mounting slot, so you can remove the sheath without having to remove the belt. However, the knife fits so well into the sheath that it really tugs on the belt when pulling the knife out; I’ve taken to using one hand to steady the sheath when extracting the knife. YMMM. The knife isn't made in the U.S., but Milwaukee offers a limited lifetime warranty and Home Depot has a 90-day return policy. HTH Regards, Jim

extremely well made, commercial quality, curved blade knife. A nicely shaped handle which has a comfortable grip. The knife is well balanced and easy to use. I couldn't find the steel rating of the blade, but, from experience, seems like it will be easy to sharpen and maintain an edge. The sheath is made of a hardened plastic (?). The knife snaps nicely into the holder and has a thumb rest to easily apply pressure to unsnap the knife from the holder. The belt clip is open, so it can be easily worn over a waistband, belt, work pants pocket, tool pouch. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking in this category.

This is a nice hawkbill knife and for the price and quality you can’t go wrong with this one. What I like: • The knife has high quality feel which is to be expected from Milwaukee. • It has a sharp stainless steel blade. • Handle has an ergonomic design and good grip even with gloves. • It has an indentation to place your thumb for better, more precise knife control. • I had zero issues stripping wires of various sizes. • The knife pops into the sheath and stays there when you are using this on a belt. • The price is fair considering the brand and quality of knife. What I don’t like: • The knife sheath is nothing to get excited about. The sheath feels cheap but the knife is excellent and that is what matters. This is a good product without question. I fully recommend.
