Laser Temperature Gun Infrared 12:1 Thermometer (NIST) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Laser Temperature Gun Infrared 12:1 Thermometer Model 2268-20 The Infrared Temperature gun can be used indoor and outdoor. The LED screen is easy to read. The temperature range is from -22F to 1022F. The unit uses a 9v transistor battery. Battery life is around 12 using all the functions. It has for different modes; Max, Min, Avg and DIf. To turn on the gun all you do is to squeeze the trigger. It automatically shut off in 5 seconds. The gun has a 7-Point reinforced frame, fully bumper nose and shielded LCD,. Milwaukee claims the Infrared Temperature gun survives 9 ft. drops for superior durability. I am not going to test it see if it survives. I will take their word for it does. It's a great compact unit and has a lot of features on it. Comes with a 5 year warranty. Product is made in China.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile Useful Diagnostic Tool This 12:1 Milwaukee product is the first non-contact temperature device I have owned. There have been many instances over the years, when I’ve wanted to verify my suspicion that 1) my air conditioning was not working properly, 2) my refrigerator or grill was malfunctioning, 3) my windows weren’t properly sealed, 4) an appliance (clothes dryer) was overheating, and so on. In most of those cases I either had to attach a mechanical device or thermometer probe, or just forgo a temperature test altogether. This is a terrific tool, with many more uses than one would guess. I used it most recently to read the temperature at each of the air vent registers located in my 12’ ceiling to judge whether I was getting an even distribution of conditioned air. It was certainly a much easier process to aim the gun at each register for an immediate reading, than to run up there with a ladder, affix a thermometer, wait for the temperature reading to stabilize, and then go to the next register to repeat the process. Instead, I aimed this temp gun at each of the separate ceiling registers, and within a few minutes I had all of the readings, minimizing my need to scale a ladder to gather this information. I realize that this infrared device has its limits in terms of only reading the surface temperature of the target area, so to measure the temperature of meat on the grill I cut the meat to measure the internal surface temperature. Even measuring the surface temperature of my pool water will provide a reasonable indication of whether it is ready to swim (the surface water is warmer than the bottom). The 12’ distance offered by this product is a real plus to gauge areas that are hard or dangerous (i.e., combustion engines or radiators) to reach or access. The gun is powered by a 9v battery, housed in a compartment on the handle that is accessed using a slot screwdriver or coin. The gauge displays temps that are easily read on a b&w 1 x 1-1/2 LCD screen. Selecting Celcius or Fahrenheit is done with the push of a couple of buttons, and the gun has the ability to set an alarm (flashing screen) when temps exceed a desired limit or range. The user’s manual is concise but clear; unfortunately the sequence of buttons to push to select various features is not intuitive, so unless you use the gun very regularly (or don’t intend to use the advanced features such as changing the C or F reading, setting alarms, etc) you will probably want to keep the manual handy. For the average homeowner, use is very simple – pull the trigger, aim the laser and hold for a few seconds to register an accurate temp reading. Finally, the gun appears to be quality-made, encased in hard plastic with rubber bumpers on the handle, around the LCD screen (which is recessed for protection), and at the laser end. This is a great tool that I would recommend to a friend.
