    Room for improvement.
I bought this ratchet 5 months ago and already it’s beginning to show signs of wear. It does this thing, idk what to call it, but it’s like it’s slip-freezing. So when I’m driving a bolt that gets progressively tighter, it’ll stop turning the anvil but the gears that drive it are still cranking until I let off the trigger. The smart stop never kicks in. It doesn’t do this all the time but it’s happening more and more frequently to the point that it’s not turning half the nuts and bolts it shouldn’t have a problem with. I work in the auto body industry, so I use this as well as the ⅜ stubby impact and ¼ high-speed ratchet quite frequently. I’ve used other battery and pneumatic brands before and eventually they all do this but usually years after purchase. For this to happen in 5 months is pretty disappointing. I’m hoping I just got a lemon and this isn’t a brand wide problem.

We work on exmilitary trucks in the shop. These trucks are old, not always well serviced, and multiple layers of paint over most of the hardware. Not an issue for this tool. I like the extended reach for getting into tighter places as well. Many places a regular ratchet just wouldn't be able to swing.

          Complex access issue solved.
The removal and replacement of the water pump on a Buick enclave is one of the most difficult and skill testing task a technician can encounter. This task requires the tech to work within a very confined space to complete the task. The fix for this issue is the M12 3/8 extended ratchet. The use of this tool reduces the time and effort required to complete task. I'm sure there are other tools on the market that will do the same. However, if you factor the quality and price point the Milwaukee M12 3/8 ratchet will come out on top. Thank you for the invitation to review this product.

            Great for automotive work
I got this specifically to work on my truck. The extended reach is great. having to remove 16 spark plugs on my Hemi engine takes the time from 3 hrs down to about half the time. Also while installing a gym in the kids playroom, it was just the tool to drive lag bolts. My impact was too large to get in there!

I have always wanted a wrench that I could count on that had some power. I tried air and corded but some were to big and bulky to get into tight places. Then Milwaukee came out with their different sizes. I use the 1/4 inch extended reach wrench and so far I have had no problems with it loosening or tightening bolts or putting screws (with the proper attachment) in tight places. I was surprised at the power this wrench has. I have had to really hold on to this rascal because it will get out of your hands if your not careful, cause it has that much power. Don't let the 1/4 inch size fool you. It has the power to do more. It is a great asset to have when working with bolts or nuts in a small space. No more knuckle busting!! It gets right in there and powers the bolt or nut off and out. I love using this tool cause it has a million uses when it comes to fitting tight places. Great tool to add to my metal shop and my wood shop. Milwaukee has come a long way and they really are producing some very good tools for the DIY'er and the professional.

If you do a lot of wrench work the Milwaukee M12 FUEL, 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless, Cordless 3/8-inch Extended Reach Ratchet belongs in your toolbox. The kit comes with a M12 battery charger and 2 Ah battery. Also provided with the kit, is nice soft case with Velcro loops to hold the ratchet, battery charger and battery in place when transported. I think the Milwaukee 3/8-inch extended ratchet is the perfect powered ratchet size for a first-time purchase. Milwaukee also makes a ¼ inch and ½ inch size of ratchet. However, with the proper adapter the 3/8-inch drive can easily be used with ¼ inch and ½ inch sockets (of course no adapter is required for 3/8 sockets). I took a picture of a tiny 5/32-inch socket mounted on 3/8” x ¼ “adapter on the extended ratchet. I included in the picture a 1-1/8” socket with a ½ inch drive mounted on a 3/8” x ½” inch adapter. This picture shows the versatility of the 3/8-inch drive Milwaukee ratchet. The 3/8-inch extended ratchet provides 55 ft./lbs. of torque (the 1/4-inch drive ratchet produces 40 ft./lbs of torque and the ½ inch drive ratchet produces 60 ft./lbs.). In my way of thinking this makes the 3/8 inch drive the perfect place to start. Also, the 3/8 extended drive ratchet can reach further out to a bolt when you are working. There is a 4-inch difference in length between the new extended reach 3/8-inch ratchet and the original Milwaukee 3/8-inch ratchet (2457-20) that I previously purchased. The new 3/8” extended ratchet has a cast steel yoke and slim profile head. A rubber boot is also available for purchase to protect the drive end of the ratchet, if the ratchet is receiving extensive use. The rotational direction of the ratchet is changed on the head end just like a manual ratchet. There is an on/off safety switch in front of the squeeze trigger to prevent accident startup. An LED light is pointed at the socket location and turns on when the trigger is pulled. So, lose the air hose required by your pneumatic ratchet if you have one. There is no more need to drag around an air hose and have it getting in the way. No more lube oil required by a pneumatic ratchet. I would recommend this new M12 Fuel Ratchet to a DIYer or a professional mechanic. I’m sure you’ll will enjoy your new purchase if you make one.

I'm a convert, can't understand how I've made it this far in life without one of these. I will admit, I'm a bit of a Milwaukee fanboy, but this is a great tool. The kit comes with a soft carry case, a charger, one battery, and the tool itself. Upon initially holding it I was concerned it's pretty heavy. Think about how you hold a manual socket wrench and then understand you would hold this the same way. I was very concerned about the weight putting stress on my hand and wrist, but those concerns were brushed aside when I actually used it. Yes it is heavy, but it will drive or loosen a bolt so quickly you don't really need to hold it for very long, reducing the stress caused by the weight issue. I was blow away by how quickly this was able to secure a bolt for me when I was installing a bike rack on my trailer hitch. This is fast, powerful, and easy to use. It won't be appropriate for all situations, but if you find yourself with a ratchet in had on a somewhat regular basis you should consider one of these.

Finally a top quality brushless, cordless ratchet wrench in a kit form. It comes with the 12 volt cordless 3/8" ratchet, a 12 volt lithium Ion battery known as M12, a charger for any M12 batteries you have and a beautifully made heavy duty carry case. The real test is in the use. This ratchet is an extended design to get into hard to reach places. And it have almost 55 pounds of torque. It's perfect for the garage and automotive repair. I love mine, a real time saver.

In the process of reviewing the Milwaukee M12 FUEL 12-VOLT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 3/8 inch Extended Reach Ratchet Kit with One 2.0 Amp Hour Battery I took an opportunity to replace the brakes on one of our farm trucks. Having experience with pneumatic air ratchets for many years helped with this review for a clear comparison between what is new technology vs. clearly old. While I do not believe air supply will be eliminated in near from the everyday shop environment, battery technology has evolved to where I utilize the air compressor very little from yesteryear. This extended reach ratchet allows for more leverage when removing fasteners. It also allows for reach into those places where you could not before. The rubber over-mold grip is nice and I like the 4-LED lights that indicate battery level. There is a trigger lock-out and when the ratchet meets its limit, keep the trigger depressed and continue ratcheting just like a manual ratchet. Two thumbs up Milwaukee!

Powerful Time Saver I was skeptical of the need and usefulness of a powered ¼” ratchet. I’m now a believer and going to keep this in my main tool bag, despite its size. Milwaukee has done a nice job creating a large ecosystem of cordless power tools that share their “M12 Fuel” system. I’ve got a few and the M12 lithium batteries are interchangeable. This tool has an LED light to help illuminate the work, it reserves just like a standard ratchet, has a low-profile head to enable it to get into tight spaces and has a good length. The provides a surprisingly good amount of torque too, it’s not a replacement for an impact wrench, but provides plenty as a ratchet. The tool provides a quick way to tighten or loosen fasteners, a lot faster than the traditional time saver; a regular ratchet, which makes it 100 times better than a regular wrench. It comes with a battery and charger, the case it came in was defective, the handle was only stitched on one side. Not a big deal for me as it’s going in my tool bag. It’s a little heavy but well balanced and it’s a pricey addition to your tool box, but if you work a lot with nuts and bolts, this tool is a real time saver!

I have the regular versions of this tool in 1/4 and 3/8 and seeing the progression of these I almost want to upgrade my oldest one but it just keeps working. I have to work on equipment designed by someone who has never had to service their designs so sometimes it is almost impossible to get to some fasteners. With this I was able to reach under my honey extractor and get all of the fasteners without moving position. I then tried it on some stuff at work and what a time saver, instead of trying to get creative with extensions I could just reach in with this and zip it off. I was also quite pleased with the power, but if you do happen to come across something that needs a bit more you can just use it as regular ratchet. Another little nice feature is the lock switch so you don't wear out your battery if you drop it in a tool bag on they way to a remote job site. This got a place on my work truck next to the other sizes.

This thing is great it can be run from the bottom of the handle with a very low grip instead of half way up the body like others I use compact 3's in it to get the most run time and still be able to have that low grip but even with the lower ah batts it delivers great run time and a very good amount of work when I have run into stuff it won't break loose thats too tight to get an impact behind I break all the bolt loose just enough and switch back to this for speed

I own a lot of Milwaukee Fuel power tools, and I've been impressed with all of them. But somehow, this one seems like it was made by a different product team all together. And it probably was, because it's an M12 product rather than the M18 line I'm familiar with. Overall, while the product is certainly an effective replacement for a standard manual ratchet, thanks to the similar shape, it could have been a lot better designed and produced. Here are my issues with it: (1) the on/off switch is surprisingly hard to operate. It's recessed and practically requires you to stick your fingernail into it to move it. (2) The rotating head's bearing came absolutely packed with grease, to the point where touching it would get your hands covered in the stuff. I've never seen a bearing with so much grease on the outside of it! (3) the ratchet head has a hard-to-operate switch to reverse rotation. Impossible to switch quickly. It's strange that Milwaukee didn't simply use the forward/reverse switches it uses on its drills and drivers. I guess this is because it's designed to also work as a manual ratchet, but honestly, that's a bad trade-off for the difficulty in reversing rotation. It's way to bulky and heavy to use as a manual ratchet. (4) yes, this ratchet is heavy! It weights 2.5 pounds on my scale (without a socket attached), which can get tiring over extended use. (5) it's really, really expensive, like 50% more than a great Milwaukee M18 impact driver. What's the deal? Maybe it's much harder to manufacture due to the slim head design, but it definitely makes it a tougher sell. Overall, I think this is a decent product if you regularly need the reach of a true ratchet (like auto mechanics would), but I'm much more often going to use my impact driver with 3/8"-drive sockets unless it just won't fit.

Milwaukee M12 FUEL 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 3/8 in. Extended Reach Ratchet Kit with One 2.0 Ah Batteries - a Home Depot Seeds Program Review I have lots of ratchets and sockets. The better ratchets have lots of teeth – up 120 – so that the ratchet swing is as small as 3 degrees. While that’s pretty good, I’ve gotten into spots where even that is too much. This 3/8” Extended Ratchet Kit solves that issue. The battery powered ratchet has zero swing and does a great job of tightening nuts and bolts in very tight spots. This ratchet is one of the Milwaukee M12 FUEL series of tools that uses the 12v Lithium-Ion batteries. The entire kit contains the ratchet, one battery and a charger. Everything fits nicely in the included case that holds all of the pieces with a slot left to hold a second battery if you have it. The ratchet has a 3/8” anvil to accept any 3/8” sockets or extensions. The teardrop head has a forward/reverse switch. There’s no ratchet action without battery power. There’s a paddle switch to operate the ratchet and a slide switch in front of it to lock the paddle so it doesn’t accidentally start. The extended shaft, low profile head and anvil are all metal making it sturdy but a bit on the heavy and large side at 49oz and 15 1/4” with the battery installed. Compare this to a 1/2” ratchet at 27.8oz and 11”. Three pounds for the Milwaukee Extended Reach Ratchet may not seem like much but over time you’ll feel it. The extended shaft is a big improvement over the older, shorter shaft. The base of the ratchet won’t fit in as tight a spot as the head so the longer shaft let’s you get to the work piece as needed. There’s plenty of power with this Milwaukee Ratchet. I had no problem driving a 5” lag screw through a 4x4 and really couldn’t detect much strain. The documentation says it has up to 55 ft-lb of torque, Unfortunately there’s no way to adjust or feel the amount of torque being applied as you would with a standard ratchet. When I tightened a 3/8” bolt with no washer the ratchet was able to pull the bolt head with enough torque to put a substantial dent in quarter sawn white oak. I guess you just have to trust that you won’t strip or shear nuts and bolts at maximum torque with a fresh battery. The Milwaukee M12 FUEL 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 3/8 in. Extended Reach Ratchet is another good tool in the Milwaukee M12/M18 line. The kit contains the ratchet, battery and charger all in a nice soft-side, zipped case. The extended reach ratchet can fit in very tight spots that don’t allow any swing from a standard ratchet and there’s plenty of power to tighten bolts very well. There’s no good way to tell how much torque is being applied to a nut and bolt as you would with a standard ratchet so you would need to take some care. At three pounds it’s a bit on the heavy side but the ability to work in that tight spot, the weight factor loses some significance. Here’s the manufacturer’s site for additional product information: https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/Power-Tools/Fastening/Ratchets/2560-21

Been slowly adding more and more Milwaukee tools to my collection. This was my first foray into the automotive subset of tools. I'm very pleased with it so far. My garage is plumbed for air and I have a plethora of air tools - including an air ratchet. This Milwaukee ratchet has a bit less torque than my air ratchet, however, I don't have to fight the hose or power on the air compressor. It's also quieter. The ratchet is very comfortable to use. Like I said, it lacks some torque, but the extra length lets you apply more leverage in order to loosen up stubborn bolts. The longer neck also makes it easier to reach hidden nuts and bolts. My only real complaint with it is that the lockout switch is somewhat recessed, so operating it can be tricky or nearly impossible when wearing gloves. The paddle switch is easy to use and allows for variable speeds.

Think of the time saved by just not having to deal with a hose. This extended version allows you to reach places that the others can’t and that means less busted knuckles too. It’s very solid and stiff while using. No flexing, just solid and well made. It has up to 55ft-lbs of torque. The layout just fits and makes since. There’s a convenient switch to lock out the tool so it don’t operate unintended. The direction is changed on the head just like any other ratchet. No learning curve here. It comes with the CP2.0 battery pack, it doesn’t get in the way and that is perfect for the balance of this tool and it will likely last you all day. A charger and a contractor bag is included. The tool has a 5 year warranty and the battery has a 2 year. Read the included manual and enjoy your new tool. I love it.

If you've ever been frustrated swinging a socket wrench back and forth repeatedly as you bang your knuckles and hands, or if you've ever had to put nuts on 2" of fine threads, this tool is a game changer. This is a very, very solid, heavy duty tool. The plastic and over molded rubber handle is solid and well made, and the metal portion of the tool is incredibly heavy duty. It surprisingly solid and heavy steel. This model is the "extended reach" model, which provides over 11" of reach. The motorized ratchet makes it easy to quickly tighten a nut without having to move the tool at all. The motor is powerful enough to provide 55 ft lbs of torque, apparently rivaling a pneumatic tool. You can also use the tool like a standard socket wrench to tighten further or loosen a tight nut. The paddle trigger is easy to use, providing good control over the tool speed. There is a small locking switch to prevent the tool from turning on when put in a bag or tool box. This is my second Milwaukee M12 tool, and I now love the size of the M12 batteries. I rarely need hours of run time between charges. The smaller batteries are much more compact and lighter than the M18 batteries. This is a fantastic, very well made, heavy duty ratchet. I hope to never have to swing a socket wrench back and forth again. This tool has the standard Milwaukee 5 Year limited warranty. I've used the Milwaukee warranty repair once, and the service was excellent.

I watched a mechanic friend do an automatic transmission service with one of these and knew I had to have one. This is my new favorite tool. I have an air ratchet that has a little more torque than the Milwaukee but not having to drag an airline around with the tool more than makes up for any short comings. Just being a Milwaukee tool lets you know this is a quality piece and it is. The extended reach neck is a plus for getting into tight spots and the fact that it will lock down so you can manually ratchet it another plus over my air ratchet. The M12 battery life is very good only thing I would like to add is a spare battery for when it does finally loose it's charge which will probably be when I need the tool most. It comes with it's own carrying case but mine doesn't spend much time there. It also comes with the MIlwaukee 5 Year warranty on the tool and 2 years on the battery. I highly recommend this tool.

Where has this 12V Milwaukee 3/8 ratchet been all my life? This thing is amazing. No airline to get in the way, and good power and battery life out of the brushless motor. No more tedious ratcheting for me! My arthritic hands love it. I was able to complete my job with the included 2 amp hour battery, but it is nice to know that the larger m12 XC 4.0 batteries fit as well. Ok, now for the bad. I have used this m12 ratchet for two jobs so far, and already the head of the ratchet is getting chipped up pretty bad. Milwaukee has rubber protective boot available for 21.99 designed to protect the ratchet and the work surface. Because of how easily the head of this ratchet gets chipped, I feel Milwaukee should have included the protective boot with the tool.

This is my new favorite tool in my tool box. I really like the extra length and the amount of power it has. I have a adapter so it can use 3/8 drive sockets which comes in handy. I put the ratchet to work right out of the box replacing a thermostat on my Chevrolet Sonic and a wiper motor on a 2014 Escalade and it worked excellent on both vehicles. The battery didn't even lose one notch while working on both vehicles. I like the length and the small ratchet head so I can get into small spaces. The carrying case will come in handy if I need to go on remote jobs. I took a video to compare the 1/4 in. & 3/8 in. Milwaukee ratchets and the 1/4 in. seems slightly faster.

This is an extremely well made ratchet with a relatively slim head for such a tool. The extended reach on this model will help a lot when working in difficult to access areas. The battery charger works fast fully charging the included battery in just 35 minutes. The trigger lock locks the paddle to prevent accidental power up and battery drainage. The torque is superb and the controllable paddle goes from real slow up to 250 RPM. The tool is weighted towards the head and the balance point is a few inches forward of the handle grip and trigger. The soft case holds each part snugly using Velcro straps and there is room to add a second battery.

First, I'm a big fan of the Milwaukee tools M-12 and M-18 Fuel tools. This one is similar to the others but not as user friendly. At 40 pounds, it has plenty pf torque. I was impressed to see it can be used as a manual ratchet, not just powered. If a fastener is tightened too much for the battery to loosen it, I use the ratchet as a breaker bar. It has plenty of length and weight for that. On that note, it's too heavy and too long for a 1/4" drive ratchet. It's great that the head has a low profile. That allows it to reach in tighter spaces. Even with that, it's very heavy. It's great that it gives me an option to use instead of an air ratchet but my air ratchet is lighter and smaller. It does have some great features. The LED light that stays on for a few seconds helps. The lock switch is a great idea but I can still get it to work very slowly while the lock is engaged. That's the plastic parts I fear will break easily. It also has the battery status display. The recessed direction switch is recessed a bit too far. It's hard to get big fingers in there to switch it. The battery is difficult to remove but as with my other Fuel tools, it gets better with time. It would be much better if it weren't a single speed too. Overall, I'm not a fan. The weight, bulk, length, difficulty in switching directions, single speed, plastic parts and price are enough to steer me away from this one.

The 2559-21 kit includes the ratchet, one 2.0 a/h battery, a charger, and a soft case (see photo below). The new 1/4" ratchet offers a fuel gauge, a power on/off switch, an LED light, and a paddle power switch. It also accepts the M12 Extended Capacity battery pack (see photo). The extended capacity batteries are not included with this kit but if you're using the tool a lot they're something you may want to consider for longer run times. The extended reach 1/4" ratchet weighs about the same as the Milwaukee 3/8" M12 ratchet but, as you can see in the photo, offers a longer neck to reach into places the 3/8" won't go as easily. The ratchet head itself is fairly thin, yet plenty strong enough, offering up to 40 ft pounds of torque. The handle is comfortable to hold, even on very cold or very hot days. In use these ratchets have saved me a ton of time and bruised knuckles. I've used them on my wife's car, my 4x4, the snowblower, the lawn mower, assembling furniture and shelving - you name it. For my purposes the cordless ratchets beat the pneumatic tools by a large margin. Since I don't work in an auto repair garage anymore, being able to take the tool to the work is much better than having to bring the work to the compressor. Not having to trail an air hose or listen to the air compressor cycling is a bonus. I've found that the 1/2" and 3/8" ratchets are great - but that for some jobs I wanted to use 1/4" sockets without having to add a reducing adapter. Sometimes it's not the wrench itself that gets in the way, it's the sockets and extensions themselves that are hard to maneuver into tight spaces. The one caveat I'd list - plan on buying at least one additional M12 battery if you aren't already invested in the Milwaukee system. These new Lithium cells last quite some time in use, but when they run out of power they don't slow down, they just stop working and you're out of business until they are recharged unless you have another battery. HTH Regards, Jim

Having a portable electric ratchet is a real luxury. Normally my only options are to use a manual ratchet, move the equipment to my shop where I have my shop compressed air or bring over my portable gasoline compressor all to run my air powered ratchet. With this M12 Milwaukee ratchet I can do small quick jobs without any of that hassle. I took a picture of using this tool removing a leaky water pump on my portable welder. This was the perfect use of the extended reach of this tool. With a regular ratchet it would have been a lot harder to reach into the welder to get to the water pump nuts. I have a lot of M18 Milwaukee tools and the M18m charger also has an M12 socket so I can charge this battery without having to find a place for another charger. The tool bag that came with this ratchet has nice secured areas for the battery, the bare tool and the charger. All and all a very nice setup. This ratchet has the typical great quality that I expect form Milwaukee tools.
