As plumbers know, PEX tubing for potable plumbing repairs is the modern standard. It's versatile and if preferred, can be color coded. The use of PEX has nearly eliminated costly copper and soldering for most household and commercial plumbing. PEX is also generally very easy to work with and has a number of ways of making connections. The Milwaukee M12 expand-er kit is arguably the best. For anyone not familiar with the process, PEX fittings can be purchased for use with the tubing without requiring clamps or crimps and the variety of tools needed to make connections. The tubing needs to be stretched (expanded) to allow the fitting to be inserted. This tool does that for tubing sizes 1/2 inch through 1 inch (in this kit). It includes ex-pander dies for those sizes, 2- M12 batteries, a charger and a tube of special grease for use with the dies. Other accessories available. PEX tubing is described as having a memory shape. This means it always wants to return to it's manufactured size and shape. Therefore, after being expanded and inserting the fitting, the tubing shrinks back down creating an air and water tight seal that can withstand high pressures. Use of a heat gun can speed up the shrinking process but isn't necessary. Though Milwaukee's M12 line isn't compatible with the M18 line of products, the batteries can still be charged with most M18 chargers, have a separate port for M12 batteries. If you've been plumbing with PEX and clamps, I think once you've tried this method, you'll stick with it. It's much faster and allows you to work with multiple PEX sizes using only 1 tool instead of trying to locate and position pesky clamps that don't always work.

Really great time saving tool. I’m really impressed with how heavy duty this tool turned out to be. Milwaukee always making quality pro tools . This expansion tool Is a big-time game changer and saves a lot time. I used to use the manual hand expander and that thing was tough to use at times. It’s just not even comparable. It’s a really great kit too. The kit comes with two batteries, the tool, charger, and accessories for different size pipe for 1/2”-1”. The expanders are interchangeable and it’s really simple to swap them out. The tool is actually very simple to use and showing one of my guys he was able to start using it right away. I think it’s harder to show somebody to use the manual tool than this. The expansion tool even has an LED light on it. And boy did that come in handy in certain parts of the job. This kit came in a hard case and normally I’m not a fan of hard cases but this one fits a lot more and uses up its space better. Maintenance wise I noticed it comes with some grease to lubricate the expander and that is really cool that it came with it. And it comes with plenty of grease to last a while. I could literally show my wife how to use this tool. That is why I think the simplicity of it is my favorite feature. Battery life went on forever. On smaller jobs I used the ones it comes with. But on larger jobs I use a 4.0 or 6.0 but I have not ever ran out of juice halfways through a job. It comes with good instructions too just in case you don’t fully understand it. Another thing that surprised me is just how powerful the expander is. It does it really quick and and like I said especially on big jobs can cut time by more than half. It’s made of high-quality materials and Milwaukee always has a great warranty. I’d recommend this tool to any plumber or contractor. It will pay itself off with the first re-pipe you do. And should last a long time.

This Milwaukee PEX expansion tool is truly a game-changer. If you have been using a manual PEX expansion tool, then you already know that it takes both hands, a good amount or working space and some quick work after removing the tool and insert the PEX fitting. While that may be fine for a few fittings or occasional work, spending all day doing this becomes tiring and takes time. A personal detail: It was while using one of those manual two-handled PEX expansion tools that I blew out my shoulder rotator cuff and subsequently requiring surgery and a long recovery time. A battery powered electric expansion tool would have been a godsend at that time. That’s where a battery-powered PEX expansion tool will make you more productive by saving labor as well as providing the perfect expansion. By that, I mean that the tool is designed to expand with the pull of the trigger, then contract and rotate slightly, then expand again, and continue repeatedly. You will get the proper expansion within a few seconds, but exactly how long or how many cycles is dependent on the size of the PEX pipe and the temperature of the pipe. The tool is well balanced, fits nicely in the hand, is easy to use, and even comes with an LED light which shines on the working area when the tool is in use (and a few seconds after). Best of all it works fast. Even one-inch PEX expands in just a few seconds. This kit comes with the expansion tool, two M12 batteries, an M12 battery charger, and 3 expander heads for 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch PEX, and a tube of grease for the expander cone heads, all contained in a durable hard plastic case. I have only couple minor complaints with this kit. One is that the instruction manual is printed on the cheapest of paper in tiny type. Not likely to last long in most construction environments, or easily read in dimly lit locations. With a tool like this, it should be expected that more than one person may use it, and a new employee may want to review the proper procedure before using. The manual should be durable enough to last several years. The other is that this is advertised for use with 3/8 inch PEX, however there is not a 3/8 expander head included. I have never used 3/8 inch PEX and cannot see a situation where I would, so this is not a problem for me. PEX piping is extremely popular and is the plumbing method of choice, overtaking copper, galvanized, CPVC, and every other method for numerous reasons. In my opinion, expansion PEX (PEX-A) and the associated fittings are clearly the better choice of the two main types (PEX-A and PEX-B) due to superior fittings, attachment, and better flow rates. If that is the type of work that you will be doing, this tool will will save time and produce the best results, making it worth the investment, even if installing the plumbing for a single house.

Fast, efficient and consistent, this tool makes installing small bore Pex fittings a breeze - see video. The turning of the expansion heads reliably expands all of the pipe evenly which, in turn, enables even contraction thereby avoiding leakage. The expansion heads constantly move so it is important to apply a thin layer of the special grease (supplied) to the cone and castellations on the tool. It's also very important to ensure the expansion heads are seated properly, centered and engaged with the castellations. The first connection I fitted had ten expansions of the half inch pipe and the fitting was not fully tight after about twenty seconds. The second connection had seven expansions, as did the third and they were both fully tight after about twenty seconds. The fourth connection I fitted had just six expansions and the fitting was fully tight after only five seconds. There are probably a lot of factors that affect the rate of expansion and, therefore, compression and with more use I can see this tool being even faster than Milwaukee claim.

Got My new Milwaukee M12 Pex Expansion tool kit and could not wait to try it out. I have All the fittings and crimps along with the tool to Crimp pex with crimp rings. But when I got this tool its a all together different Beast. I did my research and learned the difference between the Pex Pipes and fittings. Its so simple its easy to make mistakes. So the first thing after looking over my new Expansion tool set I placed both batteries on charge and charged them to full charge. Then I read over the instructions so I will know how to take care of my tool and if there was anything special I need to know. Now I was ready to go except now I needed to buy different Pex pipe and fittings for the Expansion system. So I went to Home Depot and bought a Milwaukee Tubing cutter up to 1" some Pex-A expansion pipe, 1/2" Expansion couplers, Tee Fittings and Expansion rings W/stops. Now I have enough to try out my tool for the first time. I used the grease that came with my tool and greased up the expander core not to much as the instructions stated. Then I installed the 1/2 expander head and tried it about 4 times to watch the expander head turn each time its released. Yes working properly so now its test time. I took a piece of pipe and first trimmed it square with my new cutter, Then slipped a expansion ring over the pipe till it stopped inserted the expander head tip and squeezed the trigger and expanded the pipe and ring about 4 times removed the tool and pushed in the coupler. It did not take long at all and the coupler was locked in tight. Now I cut the pipe off again and put a T fitting next then attached the rest of my pipe to the T and made a loop and attached the other end. This took less then 5 minutes its very fast compare to my old method of crimping pipe. Now the tool itself has a little weight to it but its very easy to handle. Very comfortable in the hand, changing the expansion heads could not get any easer no tools needed just unscrew and screw a new head on. Very happy with this tool just wish I would of got it a lot sooner would of saved me a lot of extra work.

If you’re not using PEX, it’s time to change. This tool is designed for UPONOR ProPEX connections and using this tool is the best way to go. As good as the previous model was, this one is even better. It’s worth the upgrade. This kit comes with two of the CP2.0 batteries, charger, heads for ½”, ¾”, 1”, a tube of grease for the expander cone and of course the tool, all in the protective hard case. This tool gives you the fastest 3/8”-1” expansions for and they are going to seal faster. The tool is only 4.5 pounds, but you can feel how solid that it is built. The trigger on this one has been extended and is easier to operate. Any of the M12 batteries will work. The tool has a metal frame, so it’s going to hold up and has all-metal gears. The ProPEX Expander with RAPID SEAL makes a difference allowing the connections to seal faster. The heads auto-rotate making expansion more consistent and are easily removed/installed. This is as easy as it gets. Yes, it has an LED light for those dark spaces. It comes with a five year warranty. I’m already seeing a lot of people upgrading to this one. This is the fastest, most consistent way to go. If you’re not using this system already, you need to upgrade. You’re going to be faster and have less of a chance with bad connections going this route. Read the manual and follow the maintenance instructions and this thing is bullet proof. Enjoy!
