3rd Attempt - Fail
There has to be some sort of design flaw with this pole saw--I've had to return it 3 times to Milwaukee for replacement due to the same issue--chain oil leaking. It leaks until the reservoir is empty. Unit 1 leaked and was replaced under warranty. Unit 2 leaked oil all over my other tools that were stored below it on the rack but its now been replaced. So now I'm on my 3rd unit and of course all the oil has leaked from the reservoir but this time it's in double wrapped plastic bags that i rubber band around the actual saw. Can't fool me a 3rd time Milwaukee! So now i have bags full of chain oil that i recycle back into the reservoir whenever i need to cut something--far from efficient. Luckily Milwaukee is really good with their warranty but it's still an inconvenience to have to send the unit back repeatedly. I can't believe nobody else has noted this oil leak issue in their reviews. My other Milwaukee tools are solid but this one is a disaster. 2 stars because of Milwaukee's warranty otherwise a 1 star product. We'll see what happens when they send the 4th unit.

Milwaukee M18 String Trimmer Kit. Model 2828-21. The item arrived well packaged and undamaged. Upon opening the Box I found inside the string trimmer with a pre spooled head, (.080 line.) A charger, and a 18 V Red Lithium battery. Initial reaction upon removing all the items from the Box? Well made as always. Good job Milwaukee. With the battery in place the string trimmer is very well balanced. It doesn't feel front or back heavy. The equilibrium point is right about where the trimmer handle is installed. With the battery, this trimmer weighs about 11.5 pounds and 73.6 inches. I would recommend Milwaukee add a shoulder strap to help mitigate the weight for longer trimmer jobs it may get tiresome holding 12 lbs for an hour or so. This is a nice segue to discuss the battery. The included Red Lithium High Output XC6.0 Battery khas a LED light up bar which indicates the level of charge remaining. It has a button that you can push at any time to see where the charge level is. Very cool. This battery is big for amp hours and it lasts a long time period I ran the tremor for an hour on a fully charged battery at full power before it died. Does it have the power to cut through thick grass and the like? Well, yes it does. This string trimmer by Milwaukee powers through everything that I have put in it's path. If you would expect a string trimmer to cut it, this one will do it without even thinking twice. I put it in heavy grass and started it and it didn't even bogged down. I found the vibration from the trimmer to be quite acceptable. Changing the string is one of the easier experiences I've had with a string trimmer. I highly recommend this trimmer. It looks good. Feels good. And is good.

    Milwaukee Household String Trimmer
This is the first cordless battery powered string trimmer I have owned, as well as my first Milwaukee M18 tool, I own other Milwaukee products. I switched from a 2-cycle gas powered trimmer to a cordless model for the ease of use. I chose the Milwaukee brand because of the reliable performance; this product has plenty of power at your finger tips. The 6.0ah high output battery gives me ample runtime on the low-setting, as I'm able to control the edging around my house and fence without causing any damage. When on the high-setting, the performance of the trimmer with a 16" cutting distance, allows you to cover a huge area quickly. Switching from a 14" to a 16" is fairly easy, by adjusting the string cutter located on the guard. I felt comfortable with the large guard preventing objects/ rocks shooting backwards towards my face. The things I did not like about the tool was the handle placement, I felt as though my arms were stretched out trying to push the head of the trimmer towards the ground. Eventually I adjusted the handle upwards to where it was comfortable for me. Also, being used to a one piece solid trimmer, I don't like the idea of folding the trimmer for "shipping or storage purposes"; while only being held together with screws. I'm not sure if that would bring problems later on affecting the purpose of a long term investment. I do think this kit would have been that much better with an 8.0ah high output battery while staying at the same price. Overall I'm happy with just clicking my battery in, and instantly starting to cut the grass. I plan on using the 6.0 battery as expand my M18 platform.

Really like this string trimmer. Gets up to speed real quick and tears through vegetation without faltering. In addition to the variable throttle, there's a slow and fast speed switch that limits the top speed, which should help extend battery life. I've used the high speed setting more, but briefly tried the low speed one and found it to be perfectly usable. The cutting diameter is pretty big - up to 16" - so you can cover plenty of ground with it. The tool feels pretty balanced, even with larger battery packs. Battery life has been great for me, though I don't have too much vegetation to maintain these days. The spool housing comes apart rather easily and seems to be sufficiently sealed against debris. There's alignment markers 180 degrees apart which help with reassembly. Haven't had to swap the line out yet and hopefully I won't for a while. I'm not sure what line diameter it comes with, but it takes either 0.080" or 0.095, which is way better than the thinner 0.065" stuff normally found on lighter electric duty trimmers. Don't really have any complaints. Except maybe that the battery has some slight play to it and the sheer length of this thing - it's over 70 inches long, so be mindful of where you plan on storing it. Would be nice if it were easier to fold up for storage!

Milwaukee M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless String Trimmer Kit with 6.0 Ah Battery and C...
Milwaukee M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless String Trimmer Kit with 6.0 Ah Battery and Charger - a Home Depot Seeds Program Review I already have a string trimmer – two actually. One is gas powered and I keep a brush cutter blade on it and use it for much heavier duty work while the other is another battery powered trimmer. I decided to get this Milwaukee M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless String Trimmer for a couple of reasons. First, I have lots of Milwaukee tools in the M18 family which means I have lots of M18 batteries and that’s important if you’re trying to get the yard work done and the battery dies. I face that often with my other battery powered trimmer. Second I’ve found brushless motors to have more power and longer lasting than those with motor brushes. This may be partly my imagination but it’s how I feel. I got this in mid-winter so I really haven’t tried whacking weeds yet but, frankly, how different could it be than any other trimmer? I will compare this Milwaukee trimmer to my other battery-powered trimmer. - Battery Power – The Milwaukee comes with a High Capacity XC 6.0 battery (and charger). I have another battery just like it and can get hours of use from power tools. Charging it is very fast. My other trimmer battery only gets 30 minutes or so and the charging takes considerably longer. - Size & Weight – The two trimmers are the same length and almost the same weight with the Milwaukee being about a pound and a half heavier. I the battery weight makes up most of that difference. - The String – I can use the same string in both. The Milwaukee documentation says “use only Milwaukee spiral line”. I don’t think that’s going to happen with me since the size is important, not the brand. - Operation – Pretty much the same. Dual operation switches (depress one before the trimmer can be run with the other). The operation switch allows variable speed. Whack weeds. When the string breaks or is too short, tap the head on the ground and more line is let out and cut to length by a cutter blade. I don’t know of a trimmer that works very different than this. Where the Milwaukee stands out though is it has two speeds selectable by a switch. My other trimmer only has a speed very similar to the “slow” setting on the Milwaukee. Though I haven’t tried it yet, the faster speed should allow me to handle higher, thicker weeds that the other trimmer struggles with. The slower speed would be for lighter work and preserves battery. - Loading New Line – BIG, BIG difference! The old trimmer has a cartridge that must be removed, the string wound around then reinserted in the head without letting the string unwind, loosen or otherwise get screwed up before reinsertion. This is a real pain. The Milwaukee trimmer has a different way with their Easy Load Trimmer Head – cut the length of line you need, thread it through the holes on the sides of the head to even lengths and turn the head to wind it up. If it takes 30 seconds I’d be amazed. It’s almost buying this trimmer just for this ability! - Cutting Diameter – The Milwaukee can be adjusted from 14 inches to 16 inches. This isn’t really an “on the fly” adjustment since it involves removing some screws and repositioned the cutting blade, but it’s possible. My other trimmer has only a 14 inch cutting diameter. - Vibration – The Milwaukee has noticeably more vibration when operating. It isn’t so bad that I think it will be a problem but I might be concerned if I had to use it for 6 or 8 hours. The vibration is less with the slower speed. Overall I’m very happy with the Milwaukee String Trimmer. It fits in my existing Milwaukee tool line very well and uses the same batteries. The battery supplied is great and lasts quite a long time. I like the brushless motor and the multiple speeds could be useful. The multiple cutting diameters is OK but not a game changer. The Easy Load Trimmer Head, on the other hand is. It makes replacing string very fast and very easy. There is some vibration with the Milwaukee trimmer that probably wouldn’t be a problem unless used for many hours on end. This review is for Milwaukee Tool string trimmer kit, Porduct 2828-21. The kit includes brushless string trimmer, high output 6.0AH, M18, XC6.0 lithium-ion battery and M12 & M18 battery charger. Some assembly is required, it easily done following the well-written assembly instructions. The supplied battery was about 25% charged when delivered. It took about 1 hour, 40 minutes to charge it fully. This tool is truly heavy-duty, it having two variable speed ranges. The string included is very, very tough, dispensing by head bump. The overall tool length is about 74 inches with the battery installed. Overall weight with the battery is 11-1/2 pounds. The trimmer guard is arranged so that the string cutter is adjustable for 14 and 16 inch cutting diameters. I tried this tool in the dead of very cold and snowy conditions, using it to mow down tall dead and tough dried weeds toward the rear of my 1 acre lot, something I would not have attempted with the other much less powerful battery-operated string trimmer I own. This tool mowed the tough weeds down above the snowline without a hitch. This tool is well-balanced. It would be helpful if it included a shoulder strap, something that I will purchase and install as spring approaches. The tool, including the battery has a long 3-year warranty.

This Milwaukee cordless string trimmer is fantastic. I just love it. I have been hesitant about getting another electric trimmer for awhile. This one does all that is expected from a string trimmer. It cuts great on a lawn as well as the rougher high weeds without bogging down. The battery charges in about an hour and has more than enough juice to trim 2 yards. It is well balanced and is weighted right for this older guy. There are 2 speeds, I prefer the low speed for better control on the normal areas. The high speed works great in chopping the the high stuff. Overall this is a great trimmer.

As I have been trying to ‘green’ for years now, why not a battery weed eater? Particularly, since I have used Milwaukee M-18 tools for over a decade now, and have never had to replace any of the various batteries that I have used. They seem to last forever. Therefore, when I saw that Milwaukee had a M-18 version, the decision was simple. It comes complete with the weed eater, an M-18 charger, and a 6ah battery. It assembles very easily, with the necessary #30 Torx wrench included, and all necessary nuts, bolts, and screws. After completing the charging, I did my front and back yard with no problem, and the battery was only halfway down. Not bad. It has two speeds HI/LO and a variable speed, depending on how much you depress the trigger. The line advances with a simple ‘bump’ on the grass, and comes out quickly. When time for new line, the instructions specify the correct length for whichever line you choose, the standards being .080 and .095. I have not yet replaced the line, but the instructions are very straight forward, and I have done a ‘practice run’ on the spindle, which easily detaches and attaches back. Works great and the ‘on demand’ variable speed is a real battery saver.

I received the Milwaukee M18 Brushless String trimmer with the 6AH high output battery. Part# 2828-21 The brushless motor gives up to 6200 RPM with Redlink Intelligence and the Redlithium High Output XC6.0 AH Battery. It has two speeds and up to a 16" cutting area. The trimmer head is easily loaded with up to 25 ft. of line. There's plenty of torque when you get into the heavy grass and weeds. The weight with the 6.0 AH battery is about 12 pounds, with good balance. My wife would much rather use the Milwaukee string trimmer than a gas trimmer. Lock battery in and go to work. And part of the M18 System we all like. Hopefully there will be a mower soon!

I'm a big fan of Milwaukee tools. I have several of the battery operated tools. This is my first yard tool that runs on a battery. I found it very easy to put together using their quick assembly guide. An operator manual is also included and provides more tool detail. First off, assembled, the trimmer is very balanced with the battery installed. As with all Milwaukee tools, the battery is very easy to install and remove. The handle has a nice feel to it. Variable speed option, when switched is noticeable and the variable speed is responsive to the trigger switch. The trimmer head guard is adequately wide and large enough to help protect the operator, but still allows a significant amount of debris to accumulate on the lower part of my legs. I have two other manufactures gas trimmers and they also allow to much debris on the lower legs. So, I guess it's a common design issue. I feel to much vibration from the unit as it runs at working speed. It's not a deal breaker, but it is a comfort concern to me. The trimmer head will come apart for you with ease, for any maintenance, using the two push locks on the side of the trimmer head. Assembly is just as easy. The unit comes with 25 feet of trimmer filament. I removed the line and reinstalled it with little to no effort. Very smooth, very quick. The line blade on the guard is reversible, to allow two more inches of line swath. The trimmer head to shaft has around a 150 degree angle, which works great for me. The line feed tap functions fantastic and I didn't have to slam the head into the ground. A gentle tap fed more filament line. Easy to clean and can be disassembled for long term storage. Took a star off for the vibration.
