Functionality
Really nice for chipping up tile on floors or showers including the concrete bed. Will do a basement slab, but a little light duty for it. Overall, good investment tool for contractor!

One of Milwaukee's best!!
We bought this to go through four inches of concrete to get to some plumbing. I had a half charged 9.0Ah battery that I started with. It worked pretty good. Once I put in a fully charged 9.0Ah battery, it became a concrete destroying hammer. Less than 20 minutes to open up two areas. The concrete did not stand a chance.

    Fantastic Powerful Hammer Drill
This is an extremely high quality & durable and solid product. The Hammer drill comes in a very heavy duty carrying case that is durable enough to be placed in a work truck or jobsite environment. The drill itself has a very heavy feel & but well balanced. I don't think this drill is any heavy than other competitive sized models. The placement of both handles makes for a comfortable tool while in use. Having such a powerful tool without a cord is a huge convenience for jobs without a power source or generator. The tool has a small LED much like plenty of their other tools which is a nice little feature. It is very easy to switch between modes on the drill. The drill has a variable speed trigger which works great with the many different jobs that you can use the hammer drill on. This kit comes with two batteries and a charger. This is an extremely high quality product & definitely recommend!!

    Powerful Rotary Hammer
This Milwaukee M18 FUEL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 1-9/16 in. SDS-Max Rotary Hammer Kit is the tool only, meaning that it doesn't come with a battery or charger. With a M18 High Demand 9.0 battery the hammer is very powerful and you won't notice a difference in power to a corded version. A battery charge lasts about 15 -20 minutes of continuous hammering. That's a good number, but I still recommend having a second battery on hand, depending on the size of your project. Charging takes somewhere between 30 - 60 minutes, I haven't stopped the time exactly. The only disappointing point is that the tool doesn't come with a case but rather only in a cardboard box.

This Drill is the Real Thing
Packaged in a large molded carrying case with two M18 Fuel 9.0 amp-hour batteries and charger, this rotary hammer incorporates an easily positioned (without the use of tools) auxiliary handle to steady and resist motion. The handle can be left on the tool, rotated to fit into the carrying case. A tube of grease is included for application to the shanks of the drill or chisel bits (SDS-Max). Interestingly, the tube of grease was the only location where I found the instruction to lubricate the bit "flutes" (failure to clean and lubricate will no doubt reduce the lifetime of the bits and the tool). There is sufficient room in the carry case for extra bits and chisels. Although provision for securing the case with a lock is provided, the plastic case could be easily compromised, but if you looped enough cable around it, it may be useful when in storage. The user manual recommends that every 6-12 months the tool be taken to a service center for lubrication and inspection. The batteries have a four element "fuel gauge" to indicate state of charge, and charging a fully discharged battery will take 30 to 150 minutes. The charger provided (which has provision for hanging on a vertical surface) has a port for differently configured M18 batteries in addition to the one for the batteries supplied. The charger incorporates protection against over charge, and charging when the battery is too hot or too cold. Status LEDs are provided to indicate when the battery is charging and how close to being fully charged it is. I haven't had the tool long enough to fully discharge one of the batteries, but, when using a 3/4 inch masonry bit, was able to drill a nice clean hole through concrete in no time at all (using the hammer drill mode). a selector is provided to change from hammer/drill mode to hammer only (when using chisels for demolition). This same selector also allows one to rotate the orientation of the chisel for the most convenient "attack angle". The batteries utilize Lithium Ion technology so, even though rated 18 volts, they pack a real punch. Care should be used though, when handling, storing or transporting the batteries to avoid damage. Although manufactured off-shore, quality seemed excellent and the performance was outstanding.

    Serious Rotary Hammer
For some reason I thought this tool would accept my large assortment of SDS-Plus bits and chisels - I was wrong. Fortunately there are adapters offered by DeWalt, Milwaukee, Bosch and possibly others that allow the use of SDS-Plus bits and chisels to be used in SDS-Max tools. Prices I've found online range from about $45 to $85, considerably less than having to purchase a new assortment of SDS-Max bits. This tool is designed to use Milwaukee's 9.0Ah battery and can be purchased as a bare tool (no battery or charger), or with one battery and charger or with two batteries and charger. It should be noted that the cost of these batteries is deeply discounted when they're purchased as a set with the tool. Although this machine will run on any of Milwaukee's 18 volt lithium-ion batteries the 9.0Ah battery is advertised to last 20 minutes between charges when used for chipping. Obviously, the lesser amp hour batteries will run out much sooner and I image they provide less overall power. The no load rotations per minute is variable between 0-450 RPM. The blows per minute varies between 0-3000 BPM. Max bit sizes are 1-9/16" twist bit, 4" core bit and 2-5/8" tunnel bit. The controls are simple and straight forward. Twist to loosen the handle, rotate to the desired position and retighten. Above the variable speed trigger is a lock-out button to prevent accidental activation of the trigger. Pressing the trigger activates the built-in work light. The rotary knob at the top is selectable for "Hammer Only", "Hammer with Rotation" or "O" which allows you to adjust the chisel bit angle. When my SDS-Max to SDS-Plus bit adapter arrives my first project will be removing a small broken concrete slab at my rear door. I own an assortment of Milwaukee corded and cordless power tools, and hand tools, and from experience I have no doubt this rotary hammer will be up to the task. Milwaukee offers a 5 Year Limited Warranty to the original purchaser on the tool and a 3 Year Limited Warranty on the battery.

First Cordless SDS-Max Rotary Hammer and Provides Corded Performance
Until now all SDS-Max Rotary Hammers were corded models. Milwaukee has changed that with the new M18 Fuel 18-Volt Cordless 1-9/16 in. SDS-Max Rotary Hammer. I was fortunate enough to receive this tool and have been testing it with various bits and attachments. When combined with the new Milwaukee 9 amp-hour lithium-ion battery, this tool truly provides corded performance. The Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1-9/16 in. Rotary Hammer includes a brushless motor that provides 5 ft-lbs of energy, and operates at 0-450 rpm and 0-3500 bpm. It includes a magnesium case and uses a slip-clutch to protect the tool from damage if the bit becomes pinned. It has a two modes of operation; hammer only and hammer with drilling. Chisels and other attachments can also be easily positioned and locked into place. An adjustable side handle is included to properly control the tool. At over 12 lbs (without battery), this is definitely a heavy tool. However, the weight adds to the sturdiness and ability to absorb shock from the hammering motion. On the negative side, there is no anti-vibration system. Without anti-vibration, I would not recommend this tool for tasks involving prolonged use in hammer mode. However, it is perfect for smaller jobs involving chipping or removing tile. It’s perfect for drilling large holes in concrete, driving grounding rods, or using a clay spade bit to dig holes in rocky soils. This is an expensive tool, but it's very high quality and provides corded performance with the convenience of a cordless platform. It also comes with a 5 Year Warranty.

Powerful tool cuts concrete with ease
My first impression of this rotary hammer is that it is huge- see the photo where I compared it to a 1/2 cordless drill. It lives up to expectation quickly cutting through concrete. For years I had been using a corded electric drill with conventional carbide bits so I was used to spending 15 minutes or more to drill a single hole in my concrete floor to anchor machine tools. This rotary hammer dramatically reduces the time. The ergonomic design is good to. Although big and heavy, the handles handles on the tool are well placed and at no point did I feel that the tool was getting away from me.

    Excellent hammer!!
I am an electrician and recently purchased this tool to drive ground rods. I also got the Milwaukee ground rod driver bit. The combo is awesome! Made the job almost fun. This tool is amazing. And the fact that it is cordless and so powerful makes it ideal for this type of project.
