I have used DeWalt power tools for several years, but recently started switching over to Milwaukee due to their incredible selection of cordless tools and accessories. I love all of the other Milwaukee tools I own, but this drill is the first one that I don't fully like. It's a good drill, very well made, very powerful, and excellent fit and finish, like the other Milwaukee tools I own. But it has two features / quirks / flaws that I found disappointing. First, this drill model appears to use an electronic clutch. Having used a DeWalt drill with a traditional mechanical clutch for the last several years, I really do not like the Milwaukee electronic clutch. Even at its lowest setting, the clutch on this Milwaukee drill has too much torque for driving smaller screws or driving screws into softer wood. (e.g. cabinet hinge screws, pocket hole screws, etc.) I use my old DeWalt drill for such tasks all the time specifically because it has a very consistent and reliable clutch that I know won't strip the screws or damage wood. Compared to my DeWalt, I think Milwaukee really mis-calibrated the electronic clutch, and feel that this drill could be improved by greatly reducing the torque on the lowest setting. While using this drill to install some replacement cabinet hinges, I had to be very careful not to overdrive the screws, since the clutch simply wasn't slipping at all, even at the lowest setting. Second, while using this drill to drill new screw holes for cabinet hinges, it seemed like the drill wasn't very responsive--there was a lag between pressing the trigger and being able to drill. I noticed that when you press the trigger all the way down, it takes 1-2 seconds for the drill to gradually come up to full speed. This may seem trivial, but if you're used to a drill that responds immediately, this is very distracting. I pulled out my old DeWalt to compare, and sure enough, the DeWalt responds virtually instantly to a full trigger press, whereas the Milwaukee slowly speeds up. Maybe this is a way to conserve battery power? Maybe it's a way to improve control when drilling a hole? I'm not sure, but I'm not a big fan of the feature at the moment. Maybe I'll get used to it, but I will be constantly asking why I'm having to get used to such a feature. I assume Milwaukee did this intentionally, and there may be some benefits to this "feature" that I am not aware of, but if you are use to a responsive drill, you may find this gradual response to be annoying. The other thing to consider about this particular drill kit is that it comes with two large 5.0 batteries, and a charger. While the two large batteries may be great for really long run time for some larger or heavier tools (angle grinder, circular saw, light stands, etc.), I find them to be a bit too heavy and bulky for the drill and hex driver tools. I find the 2.0 battery much more comfortable when carrying and using the smaller hand tools. With the brushless tools, I find the batteries last a really long time, so I very rarely need the 5.0 size with drills or drivers. I really like Milwaukee, but this particular tool seems like it has those two experimental features that have left me puzzled. They both seem like software / firmware fixes, so I would be interested to see if they improve them in a future product revision.

I absolutely love the high performance of Milwaukee's M18 Fuel Cordless Drill/Driver and long lasting battery pack. When I brought the kit with me to the worksite, both batteries were fully charged and there was still fuel left at the end of the day. Two of us were taking turns sharing the drill/driver while erecting a greenhouse and it was so nice to have a long lasting charge. It's the most superior battery strength I've ever used. I love it. It feels so comfortable to hold and I always had a secure grip. The quality is simply the best.

So impressed I got another one the next day! This is a terrific drill/driver set with two M18 5 AH (amp hour) batteries, a rapid charger (both batteries charged up fully - just - within an hour each). The batteries and brushless motor have all the torque I need – a whopping 1,200 in-lbs - and the legs to deal with tough jobs all day long. The drill/driver has a half inch keyless chuck with very fine rotary adjustment – much finer than on my other (non Milwaukee) drills. The multi position clutch covers a wide range from easily stalling at slow speed to never stalling high speed drilling. The bright white LED light illuminates the work area with ease. Accessories include drill mounted belt clip and bit holder (both are interchangeable and removable), a side handle and hard case. In the video I focus on the practical application of this tool; namely drilling and driving. All the drilling and driving was into 4 inch by 2 inch off-cuts and I used the following drills; 7/32 inch, ½ inch, 1 ¼ inch spade bit and a 3 inch hole-saw just to show off the abilities of this powerful tool, even if the 7/32 inch bit struggled a bit on a very hard knot. The driving was done with 8 x 2 construction screws directly into the wood (no pre-drilled holes).

Milwaukee Tools have replaced so many of our old Sears tools and I am impressed with the quality and performance of these Milwaukee tools. I thought that my M12 drill was the best until I tried this M18, which has become my favorite. This kit is awesome! Compared to my M12, this one is a little larger and heavier (4.8 lbs), but it sure has improved power which is variable and controlled by the trigger. This drill has 2 speeds (1 for Low, 2 for High) , 14 torque selections, and a drilling selection. The side handle comes in handy to help support the tool while working. Even though the 5-Ah battery holds up very well, it is always nice to have a backup for those big jobs. These batteries are also compatible with so many other Milwaukee tools (about 150 other tools). Other PROs for this drill kit: - the drill has a comfortable grip - it comes with a hard case - the battery charger is quick, and I can use it to also charge my M12 batteries - the belt clip is handy, but I really do not use this feature - the side bit holder is a very welcome feature to a drill so extra bits can be ready when needed - the ratcheting chuck is so easy to operate with no tools required - front of drill has an LED light - front of battery has LED status lights for remaining power - easy-to-reach on/off/reverse button - paper manuals are included for the drill and the charger (no need to look online for instructions) - the tool has a 5-year warranty, and the battery has a 3-year warranty The only CON I have found was that the button to turn on the status lights is very hard to push and I wind up using a fingernail, which is not good for the button. I would have loved to see the status lights automatically come on when the drill is turned on - like it does in my M12 drill.
