Hello, You say 30X life on your package, what is this compared to? Most extraction sockets get stuck on well before 30 uses much less 30 times as many uses. What makes these 30X better than the other ones on the market?
Asked by: JoeTool
I would imagine this is with normal use. A lot of manufacturers claim to have something that is multiple times more durable than the average set on the market the only way to know for sure is to just test it

Nonetheless, they do their job as I found out and are VERY strong, being impact-rated. Stripped bolts can turn a good day into a bad one. They can turn a few minutes of work into a few hours. These are color-coded and labeled for quick finding. It's healthy for the brain to be able to correlate colors with numbers, and after a few uses, they'll be engrained into your memory. They come in 1/4", 5/16" (8mm), 3/8", 7/16" (11mm) and 1/2", respectively. If the size you need is not mentioned in this list, that's okay - due to the twist design of these sockets, anything close to it will fit. Nonetheless, it's nice to have a set of the most common sizes. They come in a nice rubber mold so they don't get lost, and included is a complementary 3/8" drive which can hook up to any drill or impact driver, having a divit for quick-disconnect as well. The smell though, is wonderful, like burnt rubber; I'm not kidding!

I got a chance to check out the new Milwaukee Shockwave Impact Duty Extractor set (Model # 48-32-8000). No longer a professional auto mechanic, I’m posting this review from the standpoint of a homeowner/DIY’er. These extractors aren’t for removing fasteners that have broken off inside the gadget you’re working on – they’re designed for removing fasteners that have rusted or rounded off edges, or that have been painted over so many times that getting a proper socket to fit is nigh on impossible. The ‘business end’ of the extractors sort of a flower petal shaped (see attached photo) form that can be tapped over the stubborn fastener using hammer taps. The shape allows them to slide onto the work, maintaining a good grip. They’re wide at the opening, and narrow as the fastener goes deeper into the extractor. Works very well on rounded off fasteners; I haven’t given them a go on painted fasteners (yet), but if they work on rounded off, rusted bolt heads I see no reason why they couldn’t as easily be tapped through layers of paint. I rarely run into a rounded off fastener (I’m pretty careful when working on my toys) but on outdoor gear like my snow blower the bolt heads rust all too often. You’d think the manufacturers would go to stainless steel or some such, but that doesn’t seem to be the case on my gear. The wet snow and rock salt does a number on the tools and fasteners. The 1/4” and 5/16” extractors on this set are just what the doctor ordered this fall, since it’s time to get the blower ready for service. I put them on my Milwaukee “Fuel” impact driver and the fasteners came off with no issue. Normally I use a hand ratchet and standard sockets for this work and just tap the sockets on the fasteners as required, but, having the Milwaukee extractors “readily on hand” I figured I’d give ‘em a go. Very nice indeed. (Yes, they were overkill for the task at hand – but having too much capability is far better than not having enough). The extractors lock onto the adapter solidly, using the usual “ball” retentions setup and it takes a bit of effort to remove the extractor from the adapter. The set includes (1) 1/4" Extractor, (1) 5/16" / 8MM Extractor, (1) 3/8" Extractor, (1) 7/16" / 11MM Extractor, (1) 1/2" Extractor, and a 1/4" Hex to 3/8" Square Socket Adapter. All of the extractors are housed in a rubberized retention holder (see photo). Unfortunately, there’s no provision for storing the socket adapter in the holder. That’s something I’d like to see Milwaukee make provision for in the future – without a place to keep the adapter there’s risk of misplacing it or separating it from the rest of the set. One really nice thing is that this set is “Shock Wave” rated by Milwaukee – I’ve had good service out of other Shock Wave bits and pieces. The extractors are color coded (which, I suppose is nice but I know I’ll never memorize the coding); better, they are also size marked in easy-to-read fonts (see photo attached). Generally speaking you’d just grab the one that’s the closest fit to the damaged fastener and give it a tap or three with a hammer. Made in China, the Milwaukee extractors come with a limited lifetime warranty (against defects in manufacturing, of course, not against normal wear and tear; to me extractors are “expendables”). Home Depot offers their own 90-day return warranty. The quality (Milwaukee’s motto is “Nothing But Heavy Duty”) is top notch, fit and finish is good and the set sells at a reasonable market price. If you’re looking for a nice addition to your kit I think these extractors are well worth considering. HTH Regards, Jim

Our swing set is open to all the MN elements including extreme cold and heat. I was able to easily loosen and remove a couple bolts. After removing them I replaced. I did notice a little marring on the wood so keep that in mind when you are using this tool. If you are in need of extracting a bolt, this will do it but there might be a little surface damage to your material.

You have to have the right need for the product to be useful but if thats what you need it for it will work well. They are primarily designed to remove bolts that have enough of a surface for you to grab it with this extractor. Its great for rounded heads or otherwise mangled heads. If thats what your problem is then this if for you.

This tool is exactly what I needed to remove rusted bolt and hex screw heads. It's made with typical Milwaukee quality and has impact strength. It does have a specific use. It easily grabs, and extracts rusted hex screw heads on my pool enclosure and storage shed without damaging the surrounding surfaces. I like it!!

This set is typical of a 3/8 drive extractor set except that the 1/4, 5/16 (8mm), 3/8, 7/16 (11mm) and 1/2 inch sockets are color coded and marked with metric equivalents as listed. The sockets are in a plastic holder and include a 1/4 to 3/8 drive adapter though you could just use a 3/8 drive. The adapter has no place in the plastic holder. If using the closest matching socket you have trouble getting it over the bolt, like if it's covered with paint or whatever, just tap it down with a mallet. Once it's on spin the bolt off.
