A:  Mine is steel, and it is sticky and difficult at best to operate. It has been a source of frustration to me ever since I had this version. It has never been as smooth as the ones with the knurled nut at the end. They may have changes the internal design from what the Vice Grip was.

A:  Very Strong. Whatever the adjustable screw is made of. I put a screw driver into the hole, turned it and made the wrench grip very tight with no noticeable wear to the adjustable screw of the wrench.

                      High Quality Set
This is a great set of pliers that rivals any locking pliers as well as adding something new. For starters, Milwaukee hit the nail on the head with the quality and design of the pliers. They feel quite balanced in your hands while asserting itself with enough heft. Locking the pliers doesn't require much force, allowing you to tackle the job with one hand. Releasing the lock is just as easy which truly makes this one handed operation. I've used them to remove some broken bolts, the pliers held onto the bolt firmly without letting up. The set including 2 pliers is perfect and allows anyone to have the correct tool for the job. Having two pliers in the set also adds a good value to the set. Innovation seems to be the name of the game for Milwaukee. These pliers refined the adjustment knob to have a through-hole to allow screwdrivers in to tighten or loosen the grip. Adjusting the pliers this way allows you to tighten the grip after you have locked the grip. Powder coated in a bright red, Milwaukee sure made this the star of the show. Overall, these add enough innovation with quality to convince me recommend them to anyone. Great for any job.

The chuck is a nice little feature that will probably be imitated in some fashion by everyone else eventually. The release lever wobbles around a bit too much in these pliers. More-so than any of the other locking pliers I own. Some play is to be expected, but c'mon boys. Everything else seems to line up well and hold its form well enough, albeit rough cut and a little lean in the steel department. I'll throw them in the truck box to be abused, used as thief bait and lenders. I'm kinda curious to see if the adjuster screw will fit any of my other pliers. The idea is useful enough that I might just cut some stock that I can get a wrench or ratchet on. Overall, if you don't mind giving your money to communist nations that you or your children are inevitably going to have to go to war with...

great assortment of locking pliers in the set for a good price. the teeth on the jaws offer a good bite and solid hold. i would recommend the set. i have used many different brands and have never really encountered a need to tighten the grip while attached to the work piece. but after use it is a handy convenience to add and it does actually work well. could one damage the tool by over tightening or cranking on it, perhaps so is my guess. they feel solid and function smoothly from the start.

I received my Torque Lock Locking Pliers Kit (5-Piece). The first thing I noticed was the plastic pouch is already broken where the biggest locking tool is. It would have been better to have the case made with all cloth & no plastic. The Milwaukee locking tools are made with a lot of thought & quality. The way the jaws are made they have a lot more locking power. They feel good in my hand. These will work in most shops & garages & anyone would be proud to own them. I would have given a 5 star rating if the pouch that holds the Milwaukee locking tools was made better. It was broken during shipping.

A real improvement, a better mousetrap! These torque wrenches are so muct better that the similar tool(s) I've used for years. The toque screw at the bottom of the locking wrench, is flat with a hole in it (red in picture) instead of being round. This makes so much difference in being able to adjust the torque. Just being flat is a great improvement, you can get more leverage with a flat surface than with a round surface. With my previous locking wrenches I know I've occasionally gotten out a another set of plyers or another locking wrench to turn the round adjustment knob. That why my adjustment knob is gouged and rough. The hole through this tab gives many times the leverage when you insert a screw driver, the longer the better. Shear genius! In addition to this the 5 tools have different types of gripping claws, two are flat and 3 have rounded center claws, much better for torqueing a nut head, the flat claws are better for applying an even squeese. Buying the set of 5 saves a little money and provides a simple roll case. I'm a sucker for tools which have cases, probably because I don't keep my tool chest as organized as I should, but I will keep tools together in the cases they came in, so for me this is a bigger advantage than it may be for others. I just donated my old wrenches, something I don't normally do (but I was running out of space). These are keepers. These torque wrenches, are definatly a step up from the old style gripping wrench with the round knobs. I'm very happy with my new acquisition.

Rock solid, dependable, with new features - Best locking pliers out there. The Milwaukee 5-piece locking pliers set with cloth storage wrap is excellent. Having used numerous locking pliers over many decades, Milwaukee brand pliers are the best. I have had cheaper pliers that break under stress, that quickly rust once wet, that pinch you when they fail, etc. Milwaukee work as intended for years; they are treated not to rust; and have never pinched me. The finish is unique; it is a non-slip but shiny. The set includes both straight and curved jaws. Often, you want or need to have a really tight grip. This is where the new feature on all of these pliers shines. In older days, there used to be a round knob you turned to tighten or loosen the grip. It was difficult to turn that adjustment knob past finger tight or you had to guess on the correct tension prior to closing the pliers. The new Milwaukee feature to fix this is a flat (red) knob at the rear of each of the pliers. In the picture on the box and elsewhere, you can insert a screwdriver to tighten or loosen this adjustment beyond figure tight. You could also use a crescent wrench. None of these pliers have a rubberized or soft-grip anywhere on them. To me, this is an advantage. Often you are working in wet, oily, or high temperature conditions, such a soft-grip would be a hindrance. Clearly in welding, you don't want a tool with rubber on it, and these pliers are great to hold a part in place. The 7" straight jaw pliers fit the bill. I have used these pliers to hold copper pipes in an impromptu triangular brace when working to solder together multi-connection configurations on site - two of these will do the trick - the 5" or 7" and 10" curved jaw pliers work here. Not used as often but needed when you need it (like that sheared off shower valve) - the 6" long nose locking pliers. And for those times where you need to grab or tighten a large nut or similar part - the 10" max bit curved jaw pliers is the answer. These five pliers will address all your locking pliers needs. Lastly, there is a heavy duty Milwaukee red cloth tool wrap with a snap lock plastic clip. To me, buying a set is a better way to go than owning like two locking pliers and having to run to the store in the middle of a job to get that other one.... Excellent set for the money.

Terrific tools - if you can open the package!
I totally agree with other reviewers that the pliers themselves are extremely well made and incredibly strong. As for the packaging, all I can say is I'm glad I own power tools because the clamshell packaging is as tough as the tools! I literally needed a saw to cut through it - scissors and box cutter failed. The patent-pending adjustment knob (with through-hole for tightening with a screwdriver) is nice but since I usually adjust the grip before clamping down it's not as important to me as to others and the knob adds extra length to the tools. The 10" curved jaw pliers come together very nicely at the tip and could probably grip a single sheet of paper. The long-jawed pliers, however, come together at the very point of the teeth so it's like gripping between two razor blades. I suspect that will wear down soon to provide a larger grip surface at the tip, but since I rarely need to grip at the very tip of the tool it won't be a problem. Overall a great set of tools and, given the price, a good value. If you've already got a set of grips, it may not be worth the cost to get this set just for the adjustment knob, but if you need locking pliers, these are an excellent choice! NOTE: I received this product as a gift from Milwaukee tools

                          Great every day plier set
These pliers are a pretty good set of pliers. I’ve used quite a few pairs of vise-grips in my days, and these are essentially the same, with one addition that I think makes quite a difference: Instead of your traditional thumb screw on the end to tighten down, these have flattened screw, with a slot for applying more torque. Maybe that’s why they call them torque lock pliers? The slot is just big enough for a hefty sized screwdriver, and in doing some tests around the garage, I found I could get these quite a bit tighter than the traditional thumb screw. Of course, I’ve heard about metal workers cutting the thumbscrew off and welding a nut to the end so that they could use a wrench or ratcheting wrench on them. To me, and I’m just your average DIYer for home remodel and occasional auto work, that seems excessive. As someone who is looking to purchase a tool and have it work for many years in good quality, I want to buy it and have it work right out the box. These pliers do exactly that. Oh, and they have a life-time warranty (welding a nut to the end would void the warranty). The grip on these is good. I’ve seen others that have a plastic or rubber grip on them, but a metal grip seems a better way to go. Plastic is going to get scratched and rubber will probably get cut up when you eventually find yourself really reefing on these things in a tight spot. As new tools, the action was very good. The screw moved easily without complaint and they locked and unlocked as they should. My only issue with them is the size of the spring: it seems a little undersized. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen pens with larger springs. I can’t help but think that spring is going to fail one day. There’s plenty room in the pliers for a larger spring, so I can’t imagine why they didn’t put one in there. Still though, I’m giving them a 5/5. Surely they went under rigorous testing and Milwaukee determined that the spring size was just fine. Plus, there is a lifetime warranty with Milwaukee tools. If you're looking for a powerful everyday plier right out of the box, I recommend these. The set comes with two different shapes, one with a more rounded head and the other with a more needle-nose style, which can come in handy for a variety of uses.
