coverage

How much coverage will 1 qt. provide in sq. ft?
Asked by: Ollie
Can't give you an exact answer since the type of wood will absorb more or less than other types. Soft woods will soak up more of this than a hard wood will. On the Home Depot web site for this product they have a picture of the back label and at the bottom left it states a gallon will cover 500 sq. ft., but it doesn't state for what type of wood that they got this info from.

I used this on a pine table and it worked great on every part except the skirts which I sanded but apparently not that well. If pine has a shiny sealed look to it, keep sanding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Results for Pine I use this whenever I use pine for cheap woodworking projects. It gives a nice, even finish with no streaks or blotches, as long as you've prepared the wood correctly. (No cross sanding, finished with 220 grit, and make sure stain application is brushed on with the grain.) If you've ever tried staining pine without it, you'll know what a difference it makes! No reason to buy the larger can unless you've got a huge project - they're priced the same per ounce. I had a quart for two years in my garage, and it went bad before I had used more than half of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from its like making a blurry picture clear If you are really into your wood work, you will not be sorry you used the prestain. Like others have said (especially on softer woods). It will add a lil bit of a rich color to light color wood even though it is not a stain, but when used with light colored wood & light colored stain it adds a richness to the final finish & looks amazing. The main pourpose of this product is to open the pores of the wood to let the stain absorb better & evenly. It does make a huge difference if you really appreciate the apperiance of the grains/knots of wood products. Simple to apply, brush or cloth & within a few minutes you can apply the stain of your choice. Its like making a blurry picture clear

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well if you modify directions on can Let dry totally before finish coats! Instructions say to apply finish coats withing two hours, but I found letting conditioner dry thoroughly produces far less streaky results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must for staining My wife and I had a project which required staining 55 boards of knotty pine. I was wondering if it was really necessary to prime to wood with wood conditioner so we decided to buy a pint and try it on a piece of knotty pine. We couldn't believe the difference between the section that did not have the wood conditioner and the section that had it.. On the section with the wood conditioner, the color was more robust and consistent. Be sure to make sure that the wood conditioner is soaked in or wiped off before applying the stain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A pleasant surprise, not hard to do at all! I had this large sheet of unfinished plywood, and I wanted to make a table top with it. I sanded it well, vacuumed it and wiped it down, and then used this Minwax conditioner to treat prior to staining. It looked so good that I considered using a light stain instead of a darker one I'd made up my mind about earlier! The color came out very nice! It looks more like a stain than a treatment! But it was so easy to use, I'd buy it again for another project! I took some photos, too...
