1 qt. Clear Satin Polycrylic Protective Finish for Interior Wood is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from not good buy something else I used this on my workshop bench top, smooth dark brown board. Appearance was of no concern, I didn't care of it discolored, didn't shine, left steaks etc. None of that was a concern, in fact i got the matte finish and all i wanted was a protectant like it says on its label. Just something to keep spilled water from seeping into the wood. After four (4) coats applied as directed and 2 days to fully dry i took a damp cloth to wipe down the bench top and moisture from my cloth is penetrating the wood like i applied nothing.. What a waste of time and money. Use something else

I have used this on several projects with great results. I like satin because it is not flat and not too glossy, it is perfect for furniture and floors. I went with water-based because once done with oil-based staining, I was tired of fumes and stink. I do 2-3 coats on everything, finely sanding with a 220+ grit sandpaper in between. It helps smooth everything out. Also, use a good nylon brush. DO NOT allow the sun to hit this while it is drying, it will bubble and whiten but can be sanded out. The picture is of my dining room table with Minwax dark walnut and this polyurethane.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Know what you are using. This is an excellent water based protectant. But if you used oil based in the past you need to understand the differences: 1). Water based works best on water based stain. You can have clouding if covering an oil based product 2) it MUST be applied in a thin coat, multiple times. Drops with oil based will dry clear, this will dry milky. Be vigilant in cleaning up drips and spread until it looks clear 3) It gives wood a warm glow. Especially if it's not stained first. I like the vintage look, but if you don't, you may want to use the traditional stuff 4) water dries faster than oil. You have to know what you are doing on large surfaces to keep the edges wet and blended. On the other hand you can handle and revisit quickly. Water based is great. Because it is far less toxic (in substance and outgassing) and it can be cleaned up with a wet rag. Brushes rinse clean quickly, but it doesn't work like oil based Hope this helps

I used this product to seal 5 mm plywood I installed on my garage walls as back bumpers for cabinets . The product applies easily and clean up is effortless. Be sure to follow the instructions for the number of coats and the appropriate application technique to minimize bubbles.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I am a professional painter This product is way too difficult to use to get perfect results. I have been doimg this a long time, and this product dries way too streaky. Sanding between coats, buffing, reapplying...streaky! Using this product cost me a lot of time on the job

I've used a brush and a roller to apply this and I always get a nice finish with it. Quick to dry so I can apply multiple coats in a shorter period of time. Easy clean up with water.

That two hour recoat time is very appealing, but it comes at a price. There is no leveling...NONE...with this product. They mean it when they say dry to touch in half hour. I did a counter and it was settling as fast as I was putting it on. Any and all brush strokes were captured no matter the stroke- thick, thin, foam or synthetic. I tested it.. It was perfect weather conditIons and I followed the instructions. I have used poly many times over my life with fantastic results. This was not one of them. Do not attempt big areas with this product. They final result is worth far more than any quick dry time.

The area was wood plywood with water based primer (2 coats) and two coats of spray paint which was dry as well. If the Miniwax have a SPECIFIC answer of why this happens it would be useful. I would be interest to find the actual CHEMICAL reason for the yellowing. Thanks.
