Why does this soil contain foreign objects? We bought 3 bags of this soil today from Home Depot. Bag #1 had pieces of sharp wire, hard blue-colored and sharp-edged plastic pieces, pieces of plastic bagging with colors that did not match the bag of soil, pieces of cloth, and other contaminants. We are returning the soil tomorrow.
Asked by: KB
I do not remember plastic in my bags. The soil did have a mixture of dirt, small bark/twigs, husks. Did all the bags have that?

Does this soil need other mix with it. do I need mix Perlite, Vermiculite compost into it or is it good without other ingredients added.
Asked by: Lenora
The information listed on the bags claims that it is ready for planting as is. I always saturate my potted plants with Miracle-Gro mixed liquid when transplanting into a soil bed, with good results.

Nature's Care 1.5 cu. ft. Raised Bed Soil is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 302.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2nd year in a row with disappointing results I bought this product last year for the first time. My plants grew (although much smaller than expected), but produced little to no fruit. Plenty of mushrooms!! To be fair, we seemed to be shy of bees last year, so I gave the soil a second chance this year. Upon opening the 10 bags of soil, I noticed an abundance of pieces of glass, plastic and wood. While wood is organic, glass can only be considered organic in it's original form. And I suppose if you take plastic back to it's oil days .... ! I work my soil and garden barehanded. Large pieces of glass in my soil is extremely disconcerting. A simple screening of the soil before packaging would greatly reduce the foreign matter. Once planted, my plants again grew, but are not nearly the size they should be by this time. Again, some are flowering, but producing no fruit. They are just drying up and falling off. And we have an active population of bees this year. I am not happy with this product and will no longer be purchasing it! I've wasted 2 years of time and money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not waste your money on this product. Do not waste your time with this premixed soil for raised beds. I thought I would save some time with my raised bed garden, but ended up wasting time and money. After a week of planting I noticed the majority of my fruits and vegetables turning yellow and leaves drying up. I decided to have the soil test and the results are listed below in ppm. ph 6.65 high phosphorus 166.94 very high potassium 1,538.15 very high calcium 4,185.43 very high magnesium 1,057.23 very high sodium 379.71 Excessive sulfur 64.59 high copper 7.20 high zinc 36.73 high In my opinion the excessive sodium content hast prevented the plants from absorbing the water needed not only to thrive, but survive. Even after I received the soil test results, I decided to give the plants a chance. After a few weeks I am steadily losing leaves and stalks/vines. The majority of the plants do not seem to be growing but, to be fair in my review my creole tomatoes and strawberries seem to be growing. It looks as if my plants are going through a drought.

I bought 19 bags of this to fill the top half of my 10 foot by 4 foot raised bed garden. It rained the day after I filled it and, after the storm was over, I looked at the surface and there were some brightly colored bits on the surface of the newly filled bed. Upon closer inspection, I found little bits and pieces of man-made trash across the entire surface. The picture below shows the garbage I picked off just the top surface after one rainstorm, without any digging through it. There were chucks of plastic, a piece of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup wrapper and, most disturbingly, shards of broken glass of varying colors. BE SURE TO WEAR GARDENING GLOVES when working in this garbage soil! Not that I'm a big organic gardening person, but there is no way this soil should be called "organic" with all of this contamination inside. Very disappointed... If I could return it, I would, but its already in my garden. The sad part is, I bought this stuff over the Kellogg brand raised bed soil that came with 0.5 cu. ft. more soil in each bag because it was 1) a Miracle-Gro product, and 2) because the Kellogg soil also got "trashed" in its reviews because it was full of stuff. I should have just mixed my own soil.

We could have done better from picking up from our town's free composting pile. We have found in this soil, numerous pieces of all sorts of plastic, broken pvc pipe and a thumb tack. VERY DISAPPOINTED in Miracle GRO. I guess not a company to be trusted. VERY POOR QUALITY. #miraclegro

Plastic pieces in soil found in multiple bags. Aparently they want you to pay premium for miracle grow brand name. Restrictive return policy means they will not get my business again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just use compost Here is a letter that I just wrote to Miracle-Gro " To whom this may concern, Two weeks ago I purchased 6 bags of Nature’s Care organic garden for some no-till vegetable beds. I dumped out all 6 bags and spread 9in to a foot in depth. Two days later my zucchini and cucumber plants had perished. Upon looking at the “soil” I noticed it appeared to be just composted wood chips and peat moss. I did have some trouble wetting the soil but I’m assuming that is due to the large amount of dry peat moss in the mix. I stuck my hand down in the soil and it was very hot, almost as if the mix was still composting. Checking this afternoon I did also notice a very large number of weeds etc in the mix. Please see attached photo "

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this product! I purchased 10 bags of this soil for my raised vegi beds and containers. When planting I noticed that the consistency of the soil was more like that of a fine wood mulch rather than actual soil. My seeds germinated but were stunted and never got over a couple of inches tall. The tomato plants in these planters never grew and eventually turned brown and died. The only thing that ever grew well in this soil was mushrooms and fungus. It has been a terrible waste of money and time. Please note that I also planted tomatoes and vegis in another raised bed in regular potting soil at the same time. Those plants are 3 feet tall and covered with tomatoes. The difference is striking! They received the same treatment with the only difference being this soil. I was able to return one unopened bag to Home Depot and get my $ back however the other 9 bags are a loss. Today my plan is to dump it all and start over. I will never buy this product again!
