Why does this soil contain foreign objects? We bought 3 bags of this soil today from Home Depot. Bag #1 had pieces of sharp wire, hard blue-colored and sharp-edged plastic pieces, pieces of plastic bagging with colors that did not match the bag of soil, pieces of cloth, and other contaminants. We are returning the soil tomorrow.
Asked by: KB
I do not remember plastic in my bags. The soil did have a mixture of dirt, small bark/twigs, husks. Did all the bags have that?

Does this soil need other mix with it. do I need mix Perlite, Vermiculite compost into it or is it good without other ingredients added.
Asked by: Lenora
The information listed on the bags claims that it is ready for planting as is. I always saturate my potted plants with Miracle-Gro mixed liquid when transplanting into a soil bed, with good results.

Watered it Put 20 flowers that I had raised in my garden . Made sure I watered it after planting and 12 are dead after 2 days. from the 8 left 4 look like they are dying. I have to remember to look at ratings before buying.

We could have done better from picking up from our town's free composting pile. We have found in this soil, numerous pieces of all sorts of plastic, broken pvc pipe and a thumb tack. VERY DISAPPOINTED in Miracle GRO. I guess not a company to be trusted. VERY POOR QUALITY. #miraclegro

Plastic pieces in soil found in multiple bags. Aparently they want you to pay premium for miracle grow brand name. Restrictive return policy means they will not get my business again.

Three years ago I made seven raised beds in a large vegetable garden using this "no need for mixing" soil. It is impossible to adequately wet the soil I agree with other reviews the reason is the large amount of peat. I have added my compost, used bedding (straw and chicken poop), mulch, sand, fertilizer and other top soil for three years to NO avail. The soil will not absorb from watering on top or buried soaker hose. I have been able to grow vegetables but it is harder work and more time consuming with smaller yield then growing in the ground. Unfortunately I learned the soil in my area has a high metal content from previous industry use so raise beds are needed.

I've been using Miracle-Gro potting soil for years, and this year we decided to build a small greenhouse with raised beds inside. The greenhouse is known as a Geo-Dome, which will be completed for winter growing. Thus, I needed quite a lot of Raised Bed soil to fill the planting areas. So far, the new plants are thriving, and planted seeds are loving it, This 1.5 cu, ft, bag is not to heavy, the mixture is consistent and easily spread when installing into the beds.

I shopped around and this brand was the only one that had all the nutrients your vegetables needed. I started some seeds early under a heat lamp, and I planted some of the same seeds like cucumbers, Italian green beans, spinach and carrots directly in the soil in my garden box, the ones I planted directly in the soil grew so much bigger and faster. It hold moisture well and the soil doesn't dry out fast. I have no complaints. It's definitely worth it.

I've used this soil for our vegetable beds for several years now, (we live on a rock infested ridge top) I amend the soil with compost and aged chicken manure, (we have 18 hens and one obnoxious rooster) I have had good success with most all vegetables including tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, cucumbers, beets, turnips, beans etc. I feel its a good product.
