Questions & Answers

Would this be ok for children to play with. Like in a sandbox?

Asked by: Willamer
I would not recommend this instead Home Depot sells play sand and it's inexpensive just dump it in wait till it dries and let them enjoy. I always buy the sand and dump it in a baby pool and let the grand kids play in it and when they're done I cover it over with a tarp.

Does this potting soil need additional fertiizer for container tomatoes? Thanks!
Asked by: conniemland
No you don't Have to add any but I do add Vigoro tomato and vegetable garden plant food plus calcium once every month in a half. Just a tablespoon it gives better tasting tomatoes and peppers. I also use containers and sometimes I get to many tomatoes I can't eat them fast enough but it also depends on the tomatoes you grow.

I am growing in containers. Do I use this only or mix it with some garden soil?

Asked by: Alice
Hi Alice. For my herbs, hyacinths and vegetables buckets. I used just this. For my purple green beans that are planted in the ground. I used the earth already existent on my property, which is clay. The same for my host as and bleeding hearts and rabbit ears

Nature's Care 32 Qt. Organic Potting Mix is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 361.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from TWO DIFFERENT KINDS. I bought two bags of this soil,... TWO DIFFERENT KINDS. I bought two bags of this soil, one in February and one in March. Both come up as this item online (when you input the code from my digital receipts) and were in the same spot at Home Depot. They seem to be selling them as if all Miracle Grow Nature's Care potting soil (32 quart) is the same, and it apparently is not. In February I got a mix that I would rate a 4. My potted plants have been liking it. I was going thru it fairly fast so in March went back (to the same Home Depot) to get another bag. It rang up as the same item and the same price, but when I brought it home and set it next to the other bag realized it didn't look exactly the same. I figured maybe they had just slightly changed their packaging, but when I opened it it wasn't the same soil; similar, but at a glance noticed there was no perlite. In theory that shouldn't have changed too much, but whatever the small difference the end result was that the mix from the second bag did not drain well at all from pots (stays soggy much longer). I would've rated a 2. Am now having to fight invading fungus gnats where that mix was put. I'm not terribly upset as both mixes will grow plants, and I think the second bag may be fine with fabric pots (mine are mostly recycled plastic), but figured would mention that the item code seems to apply to slightly different products.

I love when Home Depot has Nature's Care Organic potting mix on sale because that's when I purchase it. I enjoy using this mix because it's not heavy, it's so much easier for the seedlings to push thru and it holds moisture. I plant veggie or herb seeds in whatever container's I have around like coffee ( the plastic one's so I can poke holes into) or butter containers then I transfer them to my over the ground planters containing the same soil. This potting mix is my second choice the best one I get from Gardens supply company but it's a bit pricey. I love this soil because it's very light. I suggest using it when it's not windy cause it can go with the wind a little. This mix DOES NOT CONTAIN garbage or rocks or metal or plastic or large sticks or gnats. It's great to use. It Doesn't get hard or clump up or get compacted it stays manageable when wet. I live in Florida so I'm glad it holds moisture longer than others soils and I don't have to purchase a lot the following year just enough to top off about 2-6 inches worth but I always get at least 2 extra bags just in case and it's also great for cactus seeds.

I have not seen any earwigs since we moved to Arizona 4 years ago and now we have them all over our patio and in our home. I had to move the bag of soil to the far corner of our property until we can use the whole thing because I am sick of those bugs in my home. So, no, i will never purchase this mix again. I do not appreciate the addition of those bugs!

I wanted to like this because it is organic, but it was too heavy and didn't drain well. I don't think that it will be good for my plants as is . I have been adding perlite to see if that will help. I have only been using it for a few weeks so it is too soon to know if it will be good for my plants as they grow. I will not buy it again.

I just repotted a stagnant Philodendron with it and some feed and it seems to be flourishing. I'm going to try it with potting seeds next.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from holds too much water When i opened it, the soil was wet (more than damp) and easily could have been harboring fungus. It makes it hard for tge roots to get oxygen and makes it a lot easier to rot
