I have used this on over a thousand feet of natural slate tile. I used it as you are asking - first I used it to seal the surface of the slate to make it easier to clean the grout from the tiles. This is very helpful for slate since it is so textured; the usefulness on Travertine marble would really depend on the texture as well. Avoid dripping down the sides of the tiles if you can. I did not have any problem with the grout staying put between tiles. After grouting is done, use it again on both tile and grout. You may want to do the grout generously at least twice to ensure it seals well. You can buy a narrow foam roller applicator to treat just the grout. Works great; it says it does not darken but on slate it can enhance the color a bit which is not a big deal.
No, I used it on the same thing. It will leave a residue that you can easily polish off with a rag dampened with the sealer. Came out nice a shiny again when done.
Yes, i will work on any grout or tile that needs sealing.
Nope. But if you apply it BEFORE grouting (to the top of the tile only) it helps to make the grout easier to clean off the slate. Probably too late for you, I'm guessing.
Absolutely not. This is a petroleum based product designed to peneterate concrete, stone, grout, porcelain, ceramic, marble, travertine, slate and other natural surfaces. The product will attempt to penetrate and compromise the seal of the latex. Don’t do it.
only if you like pouring your money for nothing
Yes, according to their website's FAQ
A second coat can be applied in 24 hrs. as long as no shower for that time. A third coat I would not reccomend for two coats is sufficent to seal any grout lines. Hope you have a second shower.
FYI: Hi Lori, when a second application is needed, we recommend applying after the first coat has been allowed to dry for a minimum of 2-3 hours. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
