I was very disappointed with this tool for a couple of reasons.
First, it leaks at the input fitting if there is even the slightest bit of tension on the input hose. I made sure that the hose was firmly seated but it still dripped unless I held it straight out from the fitting during the pumping process.
Second, the safety valve shut off before ever getting close to its 8.8L capacity. This is a real problem for me because my car has an 8 quart (7.6L) oil capacity. As you can see in the attached picture, the 8L mark is embossed on the tank and I manually marked the 8 quart position. While pumping, the safety valve kicked in well below the rib below my 8 quart mark. This forced me to stop the extraction process and pump some of the contents from the fluid extractor to another container in order to make room for the remaining oil in my car. Fortunately, this extractor has the ability to pump into as well as out of the tank but I don't want to transfer motor oil any more than necessary.
Aside from the leak, it would probably be ok if you were only planning to extract 6 quarts or less. However, it's not much good for my purposes. Before my next oil change, I'll see if I can open it up and adjust the position of the safety valve.

Poor customer service with mityvac
I received this as a Gift and when i opened it the strap that holds the pump was broken. Its a simple fix but Mityvac takes no responsiblity for their product. They want me to contact Home depot and return it or take pictures and use Home Depot shipping insurance. I just want the strap so the solution was to pay them 12.00 to have a new strap shipped. I like the evacuator but would not buy again from a company who doesn’t back there products.

Mityvac works great ! Have only used it once, to change motor oil. Quality build, straight forward assembly. Quick & clean, no jacking, drain plugs or mess ! 2 oil changes will pay for itself in savings !
