Questions & Answers

Can this antenna be used with a Roku TV to bring in local TV channels?

Can this antenna be used with a Roku TV to bring in local TV channels?
Asked by: Dottie
The antenna and the roku work independently of each other. You would connect both to the TV and then use your TV's remote to choose the "source" that you wanted to use at the time either the roku or the antenna.

Who this be something I could use when tailgating at the GA Dome in Atlanta?
Asked by: Caley
Signals are strong at the Georgia Dome! Towers are located to the east so make sure the antenna faces that direction!

Mohu 50 vs Mohu 30?

What is the difference between the Mohu 50 vs Mohu 30 other than range? The Mohu 50 says it is amplified but I am not sure what benefit that adds to me? My zip code is 48329. I am trying to decide if I need to spend the extra money on the Mohu 50.
Asked by: CuttingCable
Spend the extra money, you won't have to fight channels fading in and out. Nothing else is different except the amplifier.

Customer Reviews

Leaf 50 Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from MOHU Leaf 50 Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna A year ago I disconnected my DIRECT TV and converted to an indoor TV antenna system. At that time I purchased a "top of the line" Radio Shack tabletop antenna. Reception was lousy (in my house). I couldn't maintain reception: constantly dropped signals and picture breakups. I was excited about the CNET reviews of the MOHU Leaf 50 and ordered one using the Home Depot website. Delivery was fast. Now I get great reception and clear 1080p images. Good reception with 4/5 major networks! No more dropped signals and the quality of the TV reception is terrific. I did have to experiment with the location placement of the "Leaf", but once I found the "sweet spot", I can count on a clear image every time I turn on the HDTV. Occasionally I do experience "surges" in the reception and temporary image "breakups". Restoration is immediate. But this is nothing compared to the signal "breakups" I had with DIRECT TV when we had storms! The cost is perfect: $69 purchase price vs. $120/month. I love my MOHU Leaf 50!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good choice and excellente support by vendor I live in an open area. Set-up the leaf antenna about 7 feet higher and facing north where I reside. Transmitters are mostly about 20 to 47 miles. I got almost all the transmitting signals. Sharp and clear, except some of the channels I was interest on watching. These signals have an strength of -52 dbm at my location, and they were coming on and off. I consulted with the vendor (Mohu) by email and within a couple of hours I had a response. I call that Excellent Customer Service. I bought an additional amplifier and connected in series with the other one, but isolated in between with a coupler. The other output will feed to the other TV. Now the signal which was marginal is on all the time. Now I don't have to pay for advertisement on cable anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent reception I purchased this item as an alternative to the cable box in the bedroom. All I wanted is local channels, but I wanted a multidirectional device that I could just leave alone and not constantly turn toward the desired signal. This item fit the bill, and it surprised me in that the reception for all local stations is crystal clear! I can get multiple digital bands of public television (my favorite) for both my state as well as a neighboring state, in addition to multiple bands of other local stations. I live in a one-floor condo, so outdoor antennae are not permitted. As this item can be painted the wall color, it will be nicely camouflaged as well. I am so pleased that I plan to purchase another LEAF for the basement TV. Should cable go out, it is good to have an alternative to use as long as electricity is available. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good. Not sure how much amplification really helped though. I have to generally agree with the review posted by 'Ashertopia.' This is a good (albeit a bit pricey) unit for the city. For distance, look elsewhere. I live about 10-15 miles from most of the major towers in my market. As such I was already able to pick up just about everything of note with the rabbit ears I already had laying around the house. But there was one station on the far side of our metro area that my wife watches all the time - ION (aka the ~24/7 Law & Order SVU channel.) That station was about 45 degrees off from the main cluster of stations and ~25 miles beyond those - so a little over 35 miles away - and in more hilly terrain. I knew it was a long shot, but I was hopeful as there was another station about the same distance away away and 60 degrees off in the other direction from the main cluster that I was already able to receive. However, I knew for a fact that one had a tall, powerful tower and the terrain was much flatter in that direction. Since we weren't planning to cut the satellite cord entirely (just cutting back on the number of TVs with sat receivers) I wasn't looking to invest time/money into a huge/powerful exterior antenna setup. Cheap, easy and returnable were the 3 main criteria I had when looking at antenna options. My existing rabbit ears were amplified, but even with those outside or in the attic it couldn't reach the elusive ION station. So I figured I'd try the Flatwave (non-amplified) and the Leaf amplified versions in the same locations. Both units fared slightly better than my existing rabbit ears picking up a few additional stations and with stronger signals overall. The non-amplified Flatwave actually ended up doing nearly as well as the amplified Leaf. The one station the Flatwave didn't receive that the Leaf did get was about 5 miles further out according to AntennaWeb. Unfortunately the additional stations that both the Flatwave and the Leaf received were not of interest to us (mostly just echos/relays of my local stations on different channels for folks living further out to be able to pick up.) As such, I'm back to just rabbit ears in the attic. The Leaf and Flatwave were easy to repackage (can't do that with a Yagi-style antenna) and will be going back. In my experience the non-amplified Flatwave offers a better bang for the buck than this amplified Leaf. But both units are a modest (and certainly more attractive) step up from rabbit ears.

I recently purchased this product to use on our Kitchen counter TV we use to watch the News and weather in the morning having coffee as opposed to paying cable monthly fee for added digital box,We live approx. 40 miles North of Buffalo NY just off Lake Ontario where it meets the Niagara River so its kinda Remote area,at best we hoped to receive a few local Channels to watch News and weather like 2,4,7..much to our surprise after some tuning ,moving the antenna around and scanning channels ...by the way go slow takes a little time a few inches makes changes,we now get 28 channels,Could not be happier and if you figure cost of this to cost of cable box 5 months your even ............We are seriously thinking of getting the Mohu out door or attic unit and looking at Roku or amazon firestick and Cutting our cable tv The first month we would be ahead of it all,The cost of internet and Roku or amazon firestick and hulu subscription with extra hbo with the cost of the mohu antenna would be less than one month of cable bill ...............hmmmm seriously getting together with my tech savvy grandson ...........Retirement savings will be better served ............

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For City Use I'm a fan of cutting the cable and have been using an over the air HD antenna for the last 5 years or so and love it. Think of how much you'll save! I saved about $65/month. Every month. For five years. (Yeah, that's $3900 plus taxes.) My current set up is in the attic and I aim towards my nearest big city, which is about 35 miles away. With my multi-directional I get all the normal channels plus some I didn't know about but love (like Qubo for the kids!) If you live that far away from a city you'll need to look elsewhere for your antenna choice as this one wont cut it. (I recommend Mohu Sky HDTV Antenna, which I also reviewed and love. It's very powerful.) I tried this about 35-40 miles from the transmitters, which were widely set apart (one slight North-East and one far North-West), in an area with a lot of obstructions (trees, some buildings). My TV is on the far side of the house from the direction of the transmitters. I was not able to get my normal range of channels from this no matter how high I put it on the wall or on that side of the house. My conclusion? This Leaf is made for in-city living no matter what it says on the box - it's just not powerful enough to get to 50 miles in my experience. If you have an apartment or a home within, say, 10-20 miles of the transmitters or you live in a flat area without a lot of obstructions, you should be good. But if you move further away, have multiple channel locations (like mine), or have obstructions between you and the stations this wont work well. Visit AntennaWeb. Org and put in your location and it will tell you what you need and how to set up (single direction or multi-directional and amplified; height of set up, etc). If you do live in the city or close to your transmitteds you will love this. It's powered with an amp, which will definitely help with signals. It also looks great (and is pretty small - just bigger than a pad of paper) and can be either whitish or gray-black. (It reverses). A sample product was provided by the manufacturer for review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works. This was very simple to install (took about 5 mins once everything was out of the box). Works a lot better than I expected. I just was just looking to receive the 13 normal air turned digital channels and got over 68 channels.
