They are thin enough to not put unneccesary strain on the gutter, but thick enough to feel like they won't break if they aren't handled gently. The copper finish looks great, and compared to other styles of rain chains, they splatter isn't so bad. It really beats listening to the loud clap of rain going down our gutter.
