Questions & Answers

How far from the ceiling must you mount the bracket to give yourself enough clearance to hang bicycles?

Asked by: Garage1
I mounted about a foot from the ceiling. It still leaves around 9" of space to the ceiling once the bikes are hung. There's a 700C, 26" MTB, 24", and 20" bikes hanging on it now

Is it safe for the bike to hang by the wheel rather then the frame?

Asked by: Penelope
Mine are mountain and hybrid bikes and the wheels can definitely handle it. Better to ask the wheel manufacturer if you have composite road wheels. A bike with regular ol' steel wheels (any bike under $1000) will be just fine.

can you hang this rack on garage ceiling and use it to hang bike wheels? how long are the hooks
Asked by: berns
Yes, you could mount the rack on the ceiling and use it for only hanging bike tires. The hooks are approximately 5 inches long.

Why is the rack "Meant for long term storage, not for daily use?" I would like my kids to be able to get their bikes off/on whenever they like, perhaps daily. Is this not recommended with this rack?
Asked by: ReconJack
you have to move several bikes out of the way before accessing the one in middle or far end.

Customer Reviews

51 in. 6-Bike Storage Rack is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 56.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware This product is complete junk! They took a system for hanging lawn tools, added a different hook, and called it a bike rack. The supplied hook does not securely hold a bike. Bikes do not hang straight even when the the brackets themselves are level. They have grossly overestimated it's capacity and weight capacity. I hung three adult mountain bikes, a child's bike and a unicycle and the main bar bows badly. The metal components in this system simply were not made for this kind of weight. Also, getting six actual adult mountain bikes on the bar is theoretically possible, but you better hope you never need to get one down. It is such a tangled mess that it is nearly impossible to just remove one bike. I wish someone had posted a review here detailing the actual abilities and quality of this system before I spent nearly $90 on about $10 worth of materials.

We have 2 adult and 2 kids bikes and that’s all we could fit. We could not get the other 2 adult bikes on it. 6 bikes would make it impossible to get them down comfortably. Would not recommend for 6 bikes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My bike fell It's funny I got this email today. I came home today with my bike laying on the floor. My rack was installed correctly. But the mount that holds the square bar in place is a very soft metal. It folded over and my bike fell to the ground. Also this rack was advertised to fit six bikes. I could maybe fit three. Also the hooks could be redesigned to hold the rim of the tire better. I would not recommend this product and may have to replace it already. Or atleast replace those mounts.

BUT... the hooks do not hold the bikes at the correct angle, bikes are not secure and can easily fall. When you do get a bike down it usually has the hook still attached the tire.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 6 bikes .... but not easily Received the item on Wednesday and installed it today. Easy to install. I have only five bikes hanging on it. 4 are mountain bikes and one cycle cross. Can't imagine trying to jam another one on there. To be fair the Overview does state "For daily use, it is recommended to store up to 4 bikes, making it easier to get the bikes on and off the rack." The bar is sagging in the middle. To hang the bikes on each of the hooks is painful. Trying to get the wheel into the hook is very difficult and when you do finally get the wheel in it does not sit in the deepest part of the hook. It is as if the hooks are not made with enough material or are just not manufactured correctly. To remove the bike(s) is equally as painful. For this price I should not have to struggle to get a bike in to and out of the hook. Contemplating if I should return it.
