The MowRo RM24A robot lawnmower is a simple-to-use automated robot lawnmower that is battery-operated, which removes the need for spending any money on fuel, oil or cords and it is environmentally friendly too. A highly efficient brushless motor offers higher torque-to-weight ratio and a motor that is powered by a 28-Volt lithium-ion 4 Ah battery. This mower will automatically return to the charging station and dock until full charge is reached and pick up where it left off when the battery gets low. 3 razor-sharp blades deliver optimum cutting performance, spinning at an impressive 2900 RPM and leaving a 9.5 in. swath that you can set at a custom height anywhere from 1 in. to 2.5 in. A super quiet motor (65 dB) means that you can mow while you sleep even in close knit neighborhoods. The MowRo RM24A runs on a 48-hour schedule so it can keep up with the daily growth and at the same time let the minuscule grass clippings act as fertilizer resulting in a healthier greener lawn. An included rain sensor automatically sends the robot back to the charging station if rain is detected and will continue to mow once the storm is over An auto-stop safety bumper allows this mower to safely go around objects left in the lawn and find an unhindered route to continue mowing if obstacles get in its path. It can traverse 30° slopes for more creative landscaped areas and it includes a 1-year limited warranty that covers defects in materials, parts or quality that is upgradable to 2 full years.
3 razor-sharp blades deliver optimum cutting performance, these blades are adjustable for custom cutting heights ranging from 1 in. to 2.5 in. and are mounted on a spinning-blade disc that revolves at 2900 RPM and cuts a 9.5 in. W swath at each pass
Runs on a 48-hour schedule so it can keep up with the daily growth and at the same time let the minute grass clippings fall where they are cut which acts as its own fertilizer resulting in a healthier greener lawn
Auto-stop safety feature stops the robot from mowing when it bumps into objects and it will safely back up, go around and find a more favorable and unhindered route to continue mowing
commonly made by conventional gas-powered lawnmowers too, offering you the peace and quiet you deserve while do the things you want to do in your yard
The docking station acts as a home base that MowRo charges at. When it begins to rain, when MowRo finishes mowing or if MowRo becomes low on battery, it will automatically return to this docking station.
MowRo operates using an algorithm that helps maintain a consistent lawn. MowRo continuously mows day or night ensuring your lawn is pristinely kept and mows up to 6,500 sq ft per mow cycle. Program your yard size into MowRo, and the algorithm does the rest.
A low profile, no-trip perimeter wire is placed according to the needs of your lawn. The wire acts as a wall so MowRo knows when to turn and maneuver around the lawn. The perimeter wire also acts as a guide taking MowRo back to the docking station for charging.
Q:How do you get the mower to go around trees and flower beds?

Answer This Question
A:Â Hi Nikki, great question. Thanks for asking. The RM24 follows a perimeter wire at the beginning of each round of mowing. This lets it know where not to go. If you have planters, flower beds, or trees in your yard, simply run the perimeter wire from the closest edge of your lawn, around the circumference of the flower bed and back to the edge (parallel with the wire coming from the edge) before finishing the loop around the yard. There is also a bump sensor on the RM24 that will simply reroute the MowRo mower if there happens to be something in the way. Many people do not worry about routing around the trees because the sensor will not harm them, but we recommend that they are included in the original boundary loop.

A: I’ve been using this for two seasons. It’s awesome. Not sure about upgrading to WiFi. Let me know if you find a way. I’m afraid that it may void warranty if you modify. Check all aspects before you do anything.

Still A Work In Progress
First of all, the MowRo that I received was obviously a refurbished unit. The box was badly damaged when I received it and the mower and the ramp had scuff marks. Still, I thought to myself that it is going to get scuffed up when I use it anyway, so as long as it works, it is not that big a problem.
I pulled out all of the parts from the box. Some did not come in their original packaging (another sign that the mower had been used before) and I was missing two essential clamps that were necessary to set up the boundary wire. After a few attempts trying to find the correct email address to request the parts (some were not working), I finally found one that worked and requested the parts. The customer service was fine; I received the missing parts via USPS in one week.
I think the greatest frustration was setting up the unit and the boundary wires. The instruction sheets - even with pictures - were not very detailed or explicit. The saving grace was a YouTube video that I watched online. (It is also referenced on the instruction sheet). After watching it once to get an overall feel for the process, I proceeded to watch it step by step to set up the mower. Without that video, I would probably still be trying to decipher the directions.
For some reason, I could never get the blinking red power light to turn green - even after having it charged for over three hours. Maybe it takes longer? After about four hours, however, the unit was sufficiently charged to move around the yard. It had a few problems with some low spots in the lawn but it handled obstructions like trees with no problem. It is obvious that I am going to have to level out the low spots so that the mower doesn't get stuck.
The YouTube video shows a hood that can be installed over the base unit; unfortunately, this mower does not include one. It is a $55.00 option. I am still deciding whether to order one. If I order one, I will probably leave the mower outside during the winter months. Without it, though, I will just store it in my shed until warmer weather in the spring.
The mower has an easy-to-use dial to adjust the cutting heights. Extra "blades" are also included when the current ones get dull - a nice touch to include those. The digital readout is also easy to read. A MowRo sign (like a political sign you would place in your front yard) is included, but I don't plan to use it because of heavy foot traffic in front of my home. I am not sure anyone wants to advertise to the public that they have one of these units because they can be easily picked up and stolen. There is a four-digit pin to deter someone from stealing and using it, but I'm sure that there is probably someone who could figure out the code if they were skilled enough. I was also going to use the mower in my front yard but decided not to because someone could potentially steal it. It needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet to power the mower, so I didn't want to leave an electrical cord out front where someone could trip on it. I could be more paranoid than the average person but having it in my backyard out 0f sight and safe from passersby just works out better for me.
I need to play around with the mower to get a little more comfortable with it. When I got it, I thought it would be pretty much "plug and play," like my Roomba, but it is turning out to be a little more challenging. My hope is that I will be able to get it up and running as smoothly and reliably as shown in the manufacturer's YouTube video.
My lawn is around 3/4 acre. My neighbor's lawn is around the same size. He told me that initially he put 2 extra spools of wire around his property excluding house, driveway and walkways but mower stuck in the middle of his backyard reporting lost boundary signal error. He put extra wire to split his yard into several zones with crossable boundaries and it work like a charm. In addition frequent mows keep deer and squirrels out of neighbor's yard. Soon my lawn will be manicured and guarded.

Maybe your yard, but not mine.
This could be one of the hardest reviews I’ve ever done. As a Certified mechanic, Licensed builder, Certified HVAC Tech and Automotive Development tech there is nothing more exciting than finding that new innovative product or tool. I had high hopes for this Autonomous robotic lawnmower called MowRo by Redback. I will start with the positives. The mower is relatively easy to set up and get started. It has very little noise. Instructions are clear and easy to understand. Simply string the included wire around the perimeter of your yard and stake it to the ground. Position the docking pad in a convenient location with enough clearance for the MowRo to enter and exit. Programing is easy enough, or you can just manually push the start button and the mower begins to leave the dock and proceeds to mow. The cut quality appears to be adequate, although I can’t say how the small razor blades with fare throughout the mowing season. This mower may be a good option for some yards, but not for mine. What I have experienced may not apply to you but this is what I found in my yard. My wife takes pride in mowing the yard with a different pattern or direction weekly. We cut at a high level to maintain a healthy lawn and always mulch. This may explain some of the issues I had with the MowRo. The mower every so often would get stuck and spin its tires as if the grass was too thick to proceed (see video). The unit would also spend a lot of time running around the perimeter and not as much throughout the center of the yard. I also have not figured out how to get the mower over the sidewalk to cut the curb side (without running the wire in the expansion joints of the concrete). This review may not be fair because I feel that this mower may do a lot better in a yard that maintains their grass level at a minimum height.
I was excited to try out this robot lawn mower. Anything that might reduce my weekly yard work would be welcome. The quality of the equipment seems quite good; nice fit and finish and good supporting parts. I appreciate the attention to details such as providing a long power cord with screw-together fittings so the charging base can reach to where it will be needed. It wasn’t quite long enough for my needs, but every property is different. Another important element is the guide wire. It seems sturdy and is completely flexible so there was no struggle with coils while installing it. It laid down very easily.
Unfortunately, there also are issues with the product. One involves the required distance between the guide wires on either side of a narrow area. They must be six and a half feet apart. I have two large lawn areas joined by a two foot wide section by my patio. The wire separation requirement limits the mower to working on only one lawn, so I choose the larger of the two.
Another issue involves installation of the charging base. Plastic auger screws are provided for securing it to the ground, so it can’t be placed on a patio or sidewalk, at least, not as it comes out of the box. My lawn is about 3-4 inches above the surrounding soil, so I couldn’t install it on the soil unless I build up an area level with the lawn (which is my plan). To test the equipment, I mounted the base on my lawn. I couldn’t leave it there because it would kill the grass. A sample drawing included in the instructions implies the base would be sitting on the lawn.
Also with the base station, about six feet of clear space before and three feet after are required. So, the mower is unable to drive in and back out like robotic house vacuum. This further complicates locating and installing the station.
Next, is the margin between where the mower cuts and the edge of the lawn. Obviously, the blades don’t extend to the edges of the mower for safety, and the mower rolls a few inches from the edge of the lawn, so there is a roughly four inch band of uncut grass all the way around the lawn.
There is a control panel on the mower with an LED display. It’s very basic and the icons used for various functions are okay, but not terribly intuitive. The mower uses military time and square meters for the lawn area. Strangely, the start time for mowing doesn’t take effect for 48 hours after the first manual mowing. Moreover, there is no option for scheduling the mower’s operation. It only has a time for starting each day.
I performed two test runs of the mower, both ending in failure. There is a curved area of my lawn (see video) shaped like a half circle where the wire is 3-4 feet apart from from itself. The mower ran properly along the curve okay, but later went off the end of the lawn and shut down. The mower behaves like a robot home vacuum, making random passes across the area in any direction. When it entered this narrow space straight in, it didn’t stop at the wire, but continued off the edge. I don’t know why it continued past the wire. I moved the wire further back from the edges and the mower again went off the end on the next test run.
Technical support is poor. Over a week after submitting a support request, I have received no reply. A confirmation email came in right away, but that was all. I later responded to the confirmation asking for help again, but received no reply. I submitted a separate ticket on another day, but only received the confirmation email. I also submitted an email inquiry with the Sales department, but received no reply. To be fair, I have not called the provided phone number. The number is not toll free.
I think this mower is best suited for a more open lot without tight spaces. Given the absence of support, I can’t recommend it.
I chose the Mowro to keep my back yard cut which will save us a lot of time during the busy summer season. My lawn is very challenging; it has a lot of slopes and obstacles to maneuver around. It took a lot of strategy and planning before actually putting down the wire. Some of the prep work included clearing the area and filling in a few large holes. The setup (prep) process is time consuming but well worth it. The instruction manual includes a link to a set up video. The video was very informative and had us up and running rather quickly. We had trouble getting it to connect to the boundary wire, but quickly found the problem. My first concern was how would it work around my animals, it was not a problem because there's a built in safety sensor. The unit has a safety button that will shut it off immediately when pushed. It will even return to the dock with it starts to rain. It performed well; even though we are still learning and still have some minor adjustments to make. I'm still in the babysitting stage, but it cuts better than I expected and hasn't crossed the boundary lines. We are going to have an electrician install an outdoor electrical outlet close to the docking area. The only improvement I would love to see is a way to walk your property and make boundaries without having to put down wire. Customer service is very important to me and I think there's an opportunity for improvement with MowRo. Every time I tried to contact customer service, I was sent to voice mail and asked to leave a message. When I'm in the middle of a project, I don't want to have to stop and wait for a return phone call. As far as the MowRo, so far, so good. Thanks MowRo for giving me more time to do the things I enjoy.
Read the instructions carefully. Be aware, the "IN" on the base station is not explained in the instructions, but the "IN" on the base station means something important. After I figured out it meant that … THE BASE STATION NEEDS TO BE SET SO THAT THE ARROW IMPRINTED ON THE TOP EDGE OF THE BASE STATION POINTS TO THE INSIDE OF THE CUTTING AREA ENCLOSED BY THE WIRE, my installation went smoothly. Took about an hour and a half. The minimum clearance in front and behind the base station makes positioning the station a little troublesome. Base needs to be level with specified number of feet in front and behind. Laying out the perimeter wire is the bulk of the install. Found that it is important to keep the recommended spacing between the wire and any obstacles. Also, no 90 degree turns, minimum of 100+ degree turns. You can eyeball the 100+ degrees, not a big issue, but important. The mower does a nice job cutting the grass. I had no issues with the mower getting hung up. Random cutting takes probably 10 times longer than if a regular back and forth pattern were followed, but the robot is doing it so who cares. Charged battery life was about 1-1/2 hours. Enough to cut the area encompassed by the wire that came with the mower. The mower worked even better than what I expected.

I have a very hilly 3/4 acre lot. The back third is wooded. I bought two mowers since I have a fenced backyard. Tried the first mower in the front yard before installing the one in the back yard. The cut quality is great. Better than I can get with my regular push mower. I am still working out the kinks with the mower digging it’s slim wheels into soft dirt or mulch. I’ve had to adjust some of the boundary wires too. The neighbors look with amazement and I have cars stopping to watch!
I’ve raised some edges of my mulch beds with added soil underneath. I’ve added soil and a few pieces of sod at the bottom of a steep incline in my backyard. The mower keeps good traction on the grass.
Operation is simple and construction quality is really good. I was pleasantly surprised. Easy to adjust cutting height. I added some soil and some paving stone base under the mowers charging base to level and straighten it up. This is important so the mower enters properly.
The guys in tech support are incredibly nice and helpful! If no one is available right when you call, they will call you back fairly quickly.
The MowRo does the job of cutting my grass and my lawn looks phenomenal. I don’t have to spend the time to do it myself. What could be better? I can deal with the hiccups and each area I fix makes the mower better. Oh, and for the price, I was able to buy two of these for the price of one of the other brands with all the GPS and smartphone features. I have to go out and manually check my mowers after they mow but that is okay. Highly recommend!

I was so delighted to have cool robot lawn mower. I was looking forward to have it cutting grass for me.
It took me a while to set it up. It worked smooth on where the boundary wires were but no grass cutting. The customer service was really champ awesome services and was concerned about it not cutting my yard grass. It was returned to exchange with my pin set up for me. Plugged it for 24 hours. Then set it up. It run among my yard grass where the boundary wires but still no grass cutting. My friends tried it for me after reading it’s manual instruction, it run fine but still no grass cutting. It showed E8 on the screen. They told me that it might not work for my grass that was too tight thick.
I am very impressive with awesome champ customer service & emailed me several times to follow up with me.

I love my MoRow! It's fun to watch and quiet too. It's fun to see it going about it's cutting. It doesn't move very fast so it doesn't scare my pets. But always keep an eye on them if they're out there with it. And kids too obviously. Ideally, it should be out there alone. Now, it doesn't cut very fast, but while you're at work, running errands or even out of town, your little MoRow friend is happily cutting your grass for you! It even gets into the corners that are hard to cut with conventional mowers.
At first, I was intimidated when I open the box and saw all the different elements for the set up. But don't be intimidated, it's really not that difficult to get up and running. Running the guide wire is going to be the most time consuming part, but I just gave my MowRo a section of my yard to see what I thought. Running the guide wire wasn't hard, I used the provided measuring stick to make sure my wire was at least 12" away from the fence or anything I didn't want it to run trim or get stuck on. I also spoke with RedBack customer service when I had some set up questions and they were so helpful. Once the perimeter was set up and MoRow was charged it got straight to work. And my grass had gotten pretty tall when it set out on its maiden voyage. I was worried maybe it was too tall for it to handle. No problem for the MoRow, it cut it all down and looked seamless from where I cut with a mower and where MoRow did cutting for me.
I'd recommend this mower to anyone who wants to eliminate that task from their life, or anyone who has to hire out for yard cutting because they are not able to do so themselves.
Lastly, it's no maintenance and environmentally friendly. There is no gas to keep adding and no oil to change. This mower is maintenance free and does not cause any pollution. It's quiet so it doesn't cause any noise pollution either.
This would be great for smaller yards. It can handle large yards too, but it will just take longer, and you might need more wire. Also, if you make sure the wire securing spikes are flush with the dirt you should in theory be able to cut inside the perimeter with your own mower if necessary.
First the MoRow will back out of its charging station and the search for the guide wire. So make sure that the MoRow has enough room to back straight out. Placing the charging station on a straight away near the power source is a good way to do this.
After it finds the guide wire it follows in around the entire perimeter, pulls into the charging dock and bumps the charing elements and then backs right out and begins free range cutting around the enclosed perimeter.
It cuts in a pattern much like a screen saver, if while cutting the batter gets low, it will go back and charge and then head back out again and again until it senses there's no more grass to be cut.
MoRow has sensors that can tell if the grass under it is tall enough to be cut according to the height you set it at. If it senses the grass is tall enough it turns on it's cutting element.
Tips:
1.You might want to consider building a little dog house or garage for the MoRow to park inside, but you can also unplug the wires from the back and take the entire thing inside if the weather is bad.
2.I had some issue with the wires falling out of the blue plugs because you need to strip them so they would make contact. I'm working on fixing that. Again, if you have questions, call the number and they will help.
3.The guide wire must make a complete close circuit. The MoRow will stop if one of the blue plugs come out or the wire slips out of the blue clip. This is a safety feature. The MoRow cannot sense the guide wire unless it has a current running through it. And without the guide wire it would just wander away and end up in your neighbors yard or in the road.

Meet Gerald, he's our yard buddy and he is an amazing friend! Once you define your yard perimeter, it is almost as simple as plug and play and let Gerald do the rest! He mows the yard every 48 hours, unless it is raining, then he will mow at the next schedule time.
Let me start from the beginning. Setup is relatively easy, but it'll probably take a few hours depending on how big your yard is. The included boundary wire is pretty easy to use with the included cardboard distance marker. Be sure that the wire stays flat against the grass. Once the boundary is defined set the robot on the dock so he can charge. THen follow the guide to set up a unique passcode to unlock him. This is important as it is an important security feature to prevent others from using it. Then you setup how big of your property is. IMPORTANT, this is in SQUARE METERS not feet! I had originally set it up for 1000 sq meters thinking it was feet. Poor little guy was mowing all night and into the morning (after several recharge sessions). Nonetheless, i've backed it down to 250-300 sq meters for my back yard. He mows that in about 3 hours charges for a little bit, and then finishes the job. THe last thing that you set up is the start time. Honestly, anytime would probably work, but I like watching him mow late evening and waking up to fresh mowed yard. Its nice that he can mow in the middle of the night because he is so quiet! Literally will bother no one. I have not tested him in the full 98 degree heat/sun of eastern NC yet though.
The razor blades seem to do a great job cutting my grass down. I did not do a pre-mow...I wanted to put him to the test. He did great! Now with the mowing every 48 hours, only millimeters of grass is taken each time, which keeps it looking awesome and healthy. It mulches the grass further providing nutrients. Talk about a win win.
One night I watched him mow, only to be surprised by a pop up thunderstorm. He quickly realized it was raining, made his way to the boundary wire and followed it home to his charging station. He then resumed mowing the following day at my scheduled time. Pretty awesome!
I must say that I am fascinated by it. It definitely saves me time because I am only needing to edge my back yard. My back yard is no lush green oasis--it is very uneven, has multiple areas of roots, dead patches from dog urine, a small area with a steep incline--but have no fear, Gerald tackles it all without any issues. I am impressed. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't save that much time because I usually end up grabbing a beer in the evening and just watch him for a bit...and I love it. So he saves me a lot of effort!
Again, installation will take some time, but I highly recommend it because the overall benefit is amazing. The company has youtube videos which also help with installation.
Gerald is our new best friend :)
