I did not use anything to hold it together. It has a tongue and groove type stacking method which makes it feel sturdy.

The higher wall in the back would not allow the grate to sit evenly. We do sell a "stonehenge" firepit that would allow a grate to sit evenly.

They are routinely sending these blocks out erroneously. Rather than fix the SKU to match the correct inventory, they are sending out the wrong block. This causes increased cost to process and conduct return pickups. Increased cost means Home Depot must increase the price or they will quickly be underwater on this product.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer zola26, you will place a layer of base rock, gravel, that will be 2" deep in the bottom of the Mutual Materials 58 in x 24 in Concrete RomanStack High Back Firepit Kit in Northwest blend. The surface under the firepit will need to be a non combustible surface, such as concrete, gravel, or dirt then the layer of gravel inside.You may be able to find a fire bowl that fits inside the Fire Pit, but it isn't required.Thank you

That being said, if you would prefer it to be symmetrical, you can leave the 8x8x8 Jumbo pieces out & that will make the firepit symmetrical, and give you the extra pieces to use elsewhere on your property.
