Q:is the mesh mosquito proof?

A:  There are slits in the unit to allow water to flow should the filter block. I think mosquitoes would have a hard job squeezing thru when the unit is new, but a year or so down the road they might sag open.

    A:  The filter's primary function is to prevent debris from getting into your drain pipes. The filter is not a mosquito net. Here is how you prevent standing water in the catch basins: Disconnect any drain pipes and drill a few small holes into the bottom of the basin. Dig a 1' hole underneath the basin and then fill the hole with gravel. Place the basin on the gravel and reconnect the pipe. Finally backfill around the basin. The small holes will allow the small amount of standing water in the basin to slowly drain into the gravel below and eliminate the mosquito problem.

        In addition to collecting debris that fall into the catch basin, it also appears to offer a barrier to mosquitoes that might like to breed in the residual inch of stormwater or so that remains in the bottom of the catch basin. One could always drill a few quarter inch dia drainage holes in the base of the catch basin, but that seems counter to the purpose of installing the catch basin.

          It works
          This is used off my driveway as a drain cause rain comes from the road towards my garage. Yes I get some gravel and grass and debris in there, but all you have to do is pull it out and hose it off and throw it back it. Other then that, yeah it works pretty good.

          This very simple product is used to prevent obstruction of drainage flow from my driveway. I was asked to evaluate it shortly after having bought it (actually hadn't yet installed it), which was not useful.
