the one pictured is two separate pieces, and will need to be glued together. Having it in 2 separate pieces gives you much more adjust ability for tight spaces.
Thank you for your inquiry on the NIBCO 2 in. ABS Hub x Hub P-Trap. No, there is no difference in the general use/application for this p-trap from ABS to PVC in a typical residential shower-drain application. The connecting pipe is the key here, getting a proper solvent weld via uniformity of material is paramount. NIBCO never recommends cross-joining materials, for example, PVC to ABS. Even though there are solvent cements that can generally achieve that weld, it will always be inferior to a weld made with a solvent cement formulated to bond PVC to PVC/ABS to ABS and that is all we ever recommend anyone use. So if this is an existing PVC DWV system you are repairing or you think there is a benefit to installing an ABS fitting into a PVC system that is not the case. Now, ABS has a higher temperature maximum than PVC (180F for ABS; 140F of PVC), but if the entire piping system isn’t ABS, that benefit is inconsequential to the systems’ integrity/performance. So if this is new construction, ABS might be a slightly better choice due to increase temperature resistance, but in a residential application that is likely not a concern worth debating. From an installation standpoint, most codes that allow ABS DWV systems also allow for one-step cementing (no purple primer application), because purple primer doesn’t even show up on blackened ABS—but some codes don’t allow the use of ABS piping systems (can vary jurisdiction to jurisdiction).
