Use the NIBCO 4 in. PVC DWV Hub x Spigot Soil Pipe Adapter with a rubber sleeve (not included) or clamp (not included) in a non-pressurized DWV sanitary system. The adapter couples cast-iron piping (not included) with PVC piping (not included). Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

Hope you know what you are doing
Ignore Simon's review. He is right that an approved fitting is required to transition from cast to plastic. This however, is the extent of his knowledge. This fitting is perfectly designed to do what it is supposed to do which is not for a rubber gasket but a lead and oakum joint

An approved soil adapter is required by code when making a connection between PVC and Cast Iron hub. This adapter is made to work with rubber compression fitting that goes into CI hub and then you insert the adapter. Unfortunately, this NIBCO adapter has a lip at the spigot end that is too large to fit into approved rubber multi-tite donut. The lip is almost as large as the inside diameter of CI hub. Reaching out to NIBCO technical support proved of no help, they basically dismissed my request for explanation of the thick lip. Try a different brand if you want the adapter to fit correctly.
