Q:1 bulb or 2 and are they bright what voltage ? Im replacing old lights thank you
by|May 12, 2020
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  This has integrated LED's, not bulbs. They're residential voltage (120V). The 12.5-inch version produces 331 lumens on the high setting and 99.3 lumens on the low setting. All produce 2700K color temperature (CCT).

It's a nice light, and have it mounted over a work table. Should have paid attention to the color temp, as it's not suited for use at a work bench. I do like the direct wire aspect of this light, allowing for a custom install.

Nicor NUC-4-21-HL review. This review is for the Nicor 21" undercabinet LED with a Low-Off-High switch. This fixture is hardwired under your cabinets and is not compatible with a dimmer. The three position switch provides 30% light, Off, 100% light. I would note however, that the dimmable Nicor lights, both hardwired and linkable, are a bit brighter the than these fixtures with the 3-way switch. I purchased this light to replace a 24", 1200 lumen, T12 fluorescent. This fixture has a pleasant warm light (2700 deg) and a color rendering index of +90. The lens consists of a plastic diffuser covered by clear glass. It diffuses well without any hotspots. Color rendering is much nicer than the original 3000K fluorescent. I found good coverage with the lens centered 8.5" forward of the backsplash and 18" above the counter. When lightng corners, I found it best to keep the end of the fixture about 6" from the wall for even backlighting. There are six 3/8" knockouts including one on each end, two on the back and two on the top surface. I mounted Nicor JBoxes over the power stubouts. The fixtures can be then be connected with strain relief connectors and three-conductor round or flat cord. Overall, this is a desirable fixture with a 5-year warranty. I have been using this fixture for two months and would recommend it without reservation.

This unit has a hi-lo power switch. Nice, if it may at times be used as a "night light". Surprisingly small for the amount of light given off. But that means the connection compartment is also small. That made tightening the nut on the strain relief a bit tricky. (it really only needs to be snug) I did manage to get the 12 gauge power wire and wire for a second unit inserted, connected, and tucked away, tight. Construction is solid not thin sheet metal and easily mounts via 2 screws pre-seated in the middle edges. The real bonus is how they are pretty much hidden compared to the original fixture and how much that opened up the counter area. ... See before/after pics. In the after photo this unit is on the right, set to the Hi position.

Very compact and has good light output. This light is only 8"L x 3.5"W x 1"T, and has a good light output about 25 watts (tungsten) or 375 lumens for its tiny footprint. The box says that it puts out only 200 lumens but on the bench it tested more in the 350 to 375 lumen range. Low on the other hand, has about 100 lumens. Not bad for a very small package. The color is very warm white falling over into the yellow range, a good color choice for more of a relaxing light. The light needs no tools to open the wiring bay, it snaps closed on two large lugs with a very satisfying pop. The frame and door are made of a very nicely powder coated extruded aluminum. Even the back of the on / off switch has a silicone cover over the wires and soldered joints. This is really a very nice light and would be great for any kitchen, laundry of even a work bench.

The NICOR LED Under Cabinet light is well-built of aluminum but has limited applications due to its design. I like the small, compact design, that has an easy-open lid for the wiring compartment. Solid aluminum keeps it lightweight but strong. There are only 2 wiring knockouts; one on either side, which means this fixture has to be wired from the side. Most of my kitchen under-cabinet light fixtures are wired from the back so that the fixture is mounted at the back of the under-cabinet and the wiring enters from the wall into the fixture. No wires showing. With this fixture, you have to bring the wire out of the wall, and into the side of the fixture, which limits its usefulness and applications. They need knockouts on the back. Keep in mind, that this fixture, in order to meet code, has to be wired with armored cable. They provide an armored cable connector (custom for this fixture) to accommodate. This will work if you install armored cable, or your old fixtures use armored cable. In my case, I had 2 cables coming into the old fixture and it was spliced in the fixture. (I have four under-cabinet fixtures that are wired in parallel). The knockouts were so small I was not able to fit 2 cables into one hole. It would have required me to rewire my kitchen to make it work. The knockouts need to be full-sized. The High-Low-Off switch is handy in cases where you have non-switched power, such as retrofit kitchen wiring, but for most modern kitchens you end up using a wall switch. At 8 inches, it is very small and compact for small areas. The light color temperature is 2700K which will match your warm white fluorescents and incandescents. I prefer the new 3000K fixtures which still blend well, but add better light quality. At 218 lumens, it will only light small areas equivalent to a 40 watt light bulb.

Thank you for your feedback, We appreciate it. You are correct, the 8-inch under-cabinets only have knockouts on the sides, however, the larger sizes have multiple knockouts on the back as well as the sides. NICORLighting

I like the Nicor LED under cabinet light fixture. It is very compact, and hides away from sight to keep a nice clean look under my kitchen cabinet. It is bright and can be on full or low, which is 30 percent of full capacity. It does take supply wires not included to finish set up, but tucks away nicely and conveniently under cabinet. It has a 35,000 hour life expectancy!

The NICOR 8 inch LED under cabinet light is an excellent choice for adding a source of illumination for those dark areas on your countertop. I was a little surprised at how small and compact it was, but don’t let that fool you, this thing really lights the entire area of our counter where it is mounted. The unit has a low and high setting. We had been using our microwave light as a night light in the kitchen, but now use the under counter light on its low setting. It is perfect for this purpose. This particular unit is a hard wired model which means that it must be wired into a 110V circuit. It is not a difficult task to complete but does require some very basic wiring “know how”. It took approximately 30 minutes to run new wiring from an existing 110V source, a length of “to code” household wiring and a few basic tools like wire strippers a screwdriver and pliers. If you are at all uncomfortable with working with basic wiring, I would strongly suggest having a competent handyman or a licensed electrician install this light for you. I have included a couple of pictures of our newly installed light to show the light after installation. In summary this is a nice under counter light source which provides more than an ample amount of under counter lighting, is a well-made unit and is really efficient as it uses a very small amount of electricity as it uses LED’s. If you are looking to brighten dark countertop areas, this is an excellent choice and I would highly recommend it.

Simple design. Works well. Light is bright and soft: diffuser is great! Installation was easy: 3 wires and two screws. Wiring is inside box. Opens from top. Wiring junction looks a little weird: I expected bulk of it should go inside the electric box. Overall if you close your eyes on mediocre quality of assembly, materials of constructions are good, performs well, does what designed for. Happy DIYing!
