Questions & Answers

How many panels can be connected at once?

Asked by Behrtek August 18, 2019

As long as you can provide enough power for every panel (1W per panel) you can keep expanding. Nanoleaf's documentation talks about a 75W power supply which means you could go up to 75 panels and more if you connect more power supplies. See https://helpdesk.nanoleaf.me/hc/en-us/articles/360012560953-Setting-up-with-Larger-Layouts-More-than-25-panels-

Can you connect more than 9 squares to a single control panel?

Asked by patriots February 11, 2019

Yes, more than 9 squares can be connected. As you expand, plan for each panel to receive 1W and when your power supply capacity cannot deliver that, you'll need to order a larger power supply. Can these square format light panels be connected with the original triangle format panels?

Asked by GP January 4, 2019

You can arrange them triangularlly as they have connectors in three of the four corners!

Can you cover your floor in them and walk on them?

Asked by Fil December 25, 2018

Good question. Probably not, just because I think you could damage the internal electronics by putting weight on them. However they can definitely be attached to the ceiling.

This is a great way to transform a room. Perfect for folks that like modern lighting/design --- but also fun for a kids room too. The light designs are super customizable with 1000's of pre-made designs. While this is a quality product, the price point is a bit high for what you get (the starter pack only comes with 9 squares). Installation is pretty easy, with most of your time spent designing your layout. I recommend that you purchase a pack of heavy duty 3M command strips since the 3M command strips it comes with are smaller/weaker. After a few tiles fell to the ground, I have since used the Velcro command strips and have had no issue.

Great Addition to the House - Child Loves it!
We set these up in our daughters room. We use it for fun lighting during the day and can set it to a soothing scene to play throughout the night while she sleeps. Love the communal function of it to be able to see what others have made and design and share our own creations.

This is a really neat lighting kit that is just as much home décor or art as it is lighting. I've seen reviews comparing this to other "smart light" solutions, such as color changing 'smart bulbs' that can be managed by a controller hub, but I think of the Nanoleaf Canvas as a completely different type of product. The design, the wall mounting, the vibrant bright colors, and the music sync makes the Canvas part home décor, part wall art, and part night club disco lights. I mounted the Canvas panels on the wall between our living room and kitchen, right next to our Amazon Alexa/Echo. We regularly play music on the Alexa, and the Canvas flashes and bounces rich bright colors along with the music. My family loves it. When we don't have music playing, I love turning on the Canvas and selecting one of the bright light and color patterns. The obvious challenge with the Canvas Kit is the cost. They are somewhat expensive, so that is a valid concern, but after having used them, I would say the price is reasonable given the quality and technology. I now think of it as being similar to buying a piece of framed art on the wall, or a vase or decoration or other piece of home décor. The Canvas is more than just a "light" that illuminates your room. The second concern I'm seeing in other reviews is difficulty setting up the Canvas. If you are comfortable installing a mobile app, following the instructions on the app, and configuring a WiFi SSID and password, you should be able to easily configure the Canvas. The one problem I had initially with the Canvas was trying to set it up on iOS. This appears to be some issue with how iOS apps have to work with the Apple Home app, and for some reason I couldn't get the iOS Canvas app or the iOS Home app to detect and connect my Canvas, no matter what I tried. Fortunately, I have one Android phone in my house, and the Android app immediately detected the Canvas and allowed me to set it up. And I've had a second issue with connecting to the Canvas. I recently changed the SSID of my wireless network, and despite a dozen tries, I haven't been able to reconfigure the Canvas for my new wireless network with either the iOS or Android app. I've soft reset the Canvas, hard reset it, restarted both my iOS and Android phones, but I am unable to connect to the Canvas. I'm going to have to contact Nanoleaf support to see what else they recommend. So like many new wireless products and technologies, you may encounter some challenges. But my family and I really like the Canvas. It's a great visual addition to our living room and when we turn on some music, it turns the room into a dance club and is a lot of fun. Hopefully I can get it working again.

Coolest thing I got in my house! I got 9 squares and it's been great. I need to get more because I want a bigger canvas (no puns intended) to play the Canvas games on. Really loving the wack a mole game they have. The initial setup was not difficult considering i've spent way more time setting up the Lifx tiles I got before, and in comparison this product is much better and less gimmicky. I wish I had used the money on this product for more squares! They provide a lot of information through their app and there's also an extensive user manual webpage with videos. I didn't really need to watch the videos, but the downloadable user manual on that site was really good, it had advanced functions for the buttons and a lot of other info for people who are interested in exploring functionalities. Connectivity has been fine for me, I mostly use my google home to control the lights and so far it's been smooth. I really enjoy the music sycn too, it's been great when i watch horror movies. really adds that extra layer of immersion that you don't get typically watching from home. All in all a very happy purchase, and i need to get more.

I cannot recommend this product because I feel that there are better offerings out there and this product overlooked the basics(instructions and a remote). This lights up beautifully but there are just too many head scratching design issues that make me wanting me. To me the lack of an included remote, no paper manual, no connectivity to the leaf panels, and a decision to connect via wifi instead of bluetooth brought down my review of this product. You can purchase a remote but I still feel that this should have at least come with a standard remote, especially when you are unable to pair it to your phone You can still use this without pairing to your phone but the main draw is being able to modify it through your app. I found out the hard way that you cannot simply take this with you and connect to another network. I found out that you can only connect to one network at a time, there is a simple way to resolve this. Hold down the power and the dim button for about 10 seconds or until you see all the control buttons flash. This performs a soft rest which releases the current network settings and now you are able to connect to another network. I found this online as this did not come with a paper manual. It would have been nice if they at least had an offline manual in the app that you can browse but that is not the case. Hopefully they will include this in a future app update. I would have liked the ability to connect the squares without them being next to each other( I would like to see some cables where you can separate the panels, have some distance between them, and still have them communicate). The link cards from the leaf panels are not compatible with the Squares so you cannot connect the leaves and squares together. I feel that it would have been simpler to connect the app to the panels via bluetooth instead of wifi this way you can take them anywhere and use them without any problems. Not all bad: The squares responds and dance to the music just fine, also there should be a way to adjust the sensitivity to give the user more options. Even when you are not paired to your phone you can still have the squares respond to music. The controls are on the control Square, the only one with controls buttons. You can also adjust the brightness and choose from several pre-programmed scenes, color options

These things are amazing... It’s their second version of lights and they work great. Only complaint would be that the sticky tape they provide is not usable because it makes it hard to remove them if you want to reconfigure them later (without taking off the paint.
