Q:can this throw cane be installed on a metal gate, or is this for wooden gates only?

Answer This Question

A:  predril the screw holes. Use screws for metal as the included screws are for wood. Alternately drill the holes straight through, use galvanized hex bolts with appropriate flat and spring washers.

A:  yes you can install this on a metal gate you just need to drill a pilot hole and or use self tapping screws.

    A:  Designed for wood, but could be installed a a metal gate if it has a flat surface. Might also need to use alternate fasteners. I am speaking from my experience where I installed them on wood shed doors.

      A:  The screws are not self tapping so you would have to pre-drill, but I don't see why not. The only questionable part would be over time if the metal strips from the gate movement, but that would be with any of these.

        Everything You need to secure your gate
        [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love that it came as a kit. It has everything you need to add more security to your gate. The black plated finish camouflages it a bit for added protection. It comes with the cane bolt, mounting hardware, and 4 tough screws. The instructions on the back help even the DIY novice install it properly.

          Great job!

I found it a bit difficult to install, maybe my fingers couldn't get angled properly but it seemed to take ages! Once installed however, it's quite right and operating like a dream. The cane bolt does a super job!

            Great Product!

We were very happy with sturdiness and how easy it is to use. Would recommend it for anyone that needs something to hold the gate closed.

                Sturdy product

Our new fence and gate needed something to keep my gate in place and I wanted it to look good and be sturdy enough to last through lots of use. This product did just that.

                    Easy to install

                      A simple sturdy lock
                      [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This National Hardware 18”x ½” Adjustable Throw Cane Bolt is just what I needed to replace the much shorter one that was on my gate. Its length makes it easy to reach with plenty of length to secure the gate. The design of the locking bracket keeps it from coming loose and dragging on the ground while trying to open or close the gate. The cane bolt can be used in either the horizontal or vertical position to add a little extra security to any type of door you have.
