no it can not, has to be over a hard, flat, even surface.

Can these be used directly on the ground?

Asked by Dee July 23, 2020

Answer

We would recommend using the landscape paper as a weed barrier. However, you would still need to use two inches of gravel covered by one inch of sand, as a solid foundation and to allow for water runoff. The landscaping paper cannot serve as a substitute for a gravel and sand.

Can this be installed over existing wood deck

Asked by Mommabear April 22, 2020

Answer

Yes but you have to make sure that the deck is structurally sound before you lay these tiles on top as these tiles will not provide support if the boards on your deck are rotting or failing.

If I need to cut some tiles on a diagonal, will the fascia still attach to the cut edge?

No. But you can modify them and glue them on.

How much weight can these hold. We want to put a hot tub on top of it.

Asked by TMW May 17, 2019

Answer

Hello TMW. While this can hold a hot tub, if the hot tub has uneven weight distribution, it would be best to cut the deck tiles around the hot tub, or any similar large and/or heavy item, instead.

Yes, I simply laid mine down on top of an existing deck. They worked fine.

With the end pieces attached is there still room for drainage?

Asked by rakkoman April 2, 2019

Answer

Yes, the end pieces do not complete close the gaps between deck tiles. They would still allow for drainage. You can see this in the images as follows: http://www.newtechwood.com/deck-tile-naturale/#accessories.

Hi, Thomas. The Community Answer is correct. The deck tiles can, and often are, placed on top of a concrete patio. Please ensure this is a flat and stable surface.

HIgh quality. A little more "plasticy" than I hoped. If you're picky, get a sample first. Easy to assemble. You can cut the tiles perpendicular to the lay of the boards, but if you cut parallel to the boards, you may find yourself with a loose partial board that you have to do some filling and gluing to get it to stay on the tile. Otherwise, no problems. Happy with my purchase and with the service from Home Depot.

Response from THD-CSDecember 4, 2019
"Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is,We appreciate your feedback on NewTechWood deck tiles. We understand your concern regarding the ""plasticky"" look. While we do try to create a natural look for our products, the benefits of having a composite composition, that includes plastic, can affect the look of the product. That being said, we're glad you like our product, and are very grateful to you for being a NewTechWood customer."
