A: I used a compound miter saw with a 60 tooth bit and cut it perfectly. I also highly recommend using a two part adhesive glue to create perfect corners. My family and friends cannot believe the finished crown is not real wood.

A: Hi! I am so sorry for my delayed response. The portal was just upgraded to begin notifying us when questions are asked. This profile has an 'actual' measurement of 8-3/4 inches in height. However, when installed at the proper angle, it will measure 5-7/8 inches in height (and 5-7/8 inches in depth as well). Q:Are seams easily hidden? Im trying to debate on getting the smaller pieces vs larger 12ft pieces.

A: The seams are easily hidden. If you are leaving the molding white, I would recommend using the acrylic/latex caulk that dries white. It will be used to install the molding, and it can also be used at the seams. This one is great: http://www.homedepot.com/p/DAP-11-2-oz-Alex-Fast-Dry-Acrylic-Latex-Caulk-Plus-Silicone-18428/202734234. You can caulk the seams (put a little more than you need), and then use your finger to smooth out the glue to the profile of the molding. Excess can be wiped away with a wet paper towel. The material of our moldings is fully waterproof, so the joints will not gap over time with changes in humidity or temperature.

I have used a different polystyrene crown product previously and it was much easier to use. This was due to the other product's more rigid construction. This item was too flimsy for its size. This made it quite difficult to accurate cut and install. Additionally, due to its size, could not be cut in the conventional manner and required miter and bevel cutting. That would have been satisfactory, but due to its lack of sufficient stiffness, it was very difficult to maintain a flat position on the saw. Further, the short section lengths (78") made for many splices. These were difficult to satisfactorily align due to flexibility. The joints could not be tacked it they were slightly sprung due to ceiling or wall imperfections. The brads would not hold in the polystyrene. Even with extreme attention to detail and accuracy, the miter joints were far from perfect due to the flexibility. Merely pushing firmly on the face of the trim would result in a dent. Filling with speckling was less than optimum and sanding resulted in erosion into the underling rough foam and alteration of the surface that led to unsightly texture and coloration that would not hide with painting. I cannot recommend this product for use in this size or in large rooms. There are other brands that have a much more rigid construction that would be a much better choice. Look for products that have reinforcing bars that meet the wall or ceiling.

Returned. Not the same polystyrene trim products with plastic coating. This was fragile, soft styrofoam, which arrived dented. Requires massive compound miter saw and even then cut won’t be clean. Needs to be installed with adhesive since the impact of a finish nailer would dent/destroy it.

Easy and affordable

This product is incredibly easy to work with. We just purchased our first home, and I was hesitant to attempt a project on my own. However, my wife has been begging me for crown molding, and this is the only option I could find that didn’t require a nail gun, and also fit our tight remodel budget. We managed to install the molding over a weekend with no headaches. It was that easy. I highly recommend this product….several friends have already complemented the room.
