I've never applied wallpaper. What does the pre-pasted paper application entail?

You cut the strip to the size you want, soak it in water a minute or 2 (either a bath tub or large cooler). Make sure it is completely soaked, be careful though the longer it soaks the more likely it may tear. Then apply to walls and take a cloth and smooth all bubbles out and make sure it is completely adhered to the walls. Give it at least 24 hrs or so before painting.

I've usually worked with "rolls"of wallpaper. What is a "bolt"? How do I handle it?

Many people do this with much success however we do not recommend it and you will void the manufacturers warranty if you do so.

Will this wallpaper adhere to concrete walls? I am trying to cover unsightly basement walls....

It can as long as the block has been prepped or sealed with a wall sizing.

Can you use strippable paste instead?

Asked by renoperson June 20, 2020

Answer

Yes you can paste it, you will find that it is much easier to install when pasted versus using a watertray. However you must understand that just because you use a strippable paste does not mean that you will not see evidence of wallpaper once it is removed. The paste you put on the "prepasted" paper WILL activate the paste on the back of this. Even though I believe you will be much happier installing this using paste I would recommend that you use a high quality wall prep on the wall surface before installing so that removing it will not be a huge problem, especially when you are talking just a few years. Using that along with the strippable paste will make the end result much easier to manage.

we hung this wallpaper over paneling that we could not remove in a basement bedroom. It was a little difficult to hang but that was probably because we were not used to hanging eight ft sections. Covered the paneling very nicely

I'm really pleased with this wallpaper. However, it does say you don't have to paint it but, if you don't you will not be able to get any dirt marks etc off! So definitely paint it.

Redoing my old kitchen that had two layers of wallpaper and glue. Worked for a month getting it off. However the walls would show too many blemishes to be painted without being sheetrocked(they are plaster walls). Being on a low budget I decided to put up this wallpaper. I am 70 and it was relatively smooth going. Yes I did have a few tears but they pressed down and blended back in. I have only painted a small portion but looks great. The one section I painted I used dark grey and it needed two coats. The rest with be light grey

Great stuff, very forgiving "pattern"
Just started installing this stuff today and I love it. I specifically wanted this to save time not having to do so much finish work to our new drywall walls and ceiling in the mother in law suite we're making. so we just taped the joints, put one coat of joint compound, light sanding and that's it. Then I did a quick coat of primer paint, waited 2 days and started wallpapering. This requires the old fashioned method of dipping in water and then activating the glue for 5 minutes. This paper does tear easily so you have to be a little gentle when handling it so wet. But even the tears go right back together and are not even noticeable. I love how nicely the seams match up and it stays very pliable and movable for plenty of time to get everything lined up. And because there really is no noticeable pattern, you don't have as much wastage lining the next row up. Also, because it butts up so nicely, we just cut small pieces to go around the ceiling fixture holes which makes cutting out the holes so much easier than trying to manipulate a huge run with 1 hand while cutting with another!! We are not planning to paint it because of our tight timiline, so not sure how that would be.

covers wall paneling
This paper has plenty of paste and it does a pretty good job of covering wall paneling. I got it too wet, which was my fault, so it tore easily, was difficult to manage, and took a long time to dry. I do wish I had chosen a paper with a much subtler pattern. Due to the deep texture, I found it difficult to paint this paper, even using a rough surface roller cover. It might be worth noting that it took a lot of paint to cover it. None of the reviews I read mentioned that, but it is something to consider. I just put it up, and I think it looks nice.
