HOW HIGH A CEILING

HOW HIGH A CEILING
Asked by: BILL
Our bathroom ceiling is 8' high and this unit works fine. The fan does seem a bit louder than 3.5 sones which is slightly disappointing. It helps to install 4.75" diameter flood lights to restrict the sound (bulbs are not included with this unit), but it's hard to find 4.75" floods that won't blind you in a bathroom space. We went with twin GE 45W LED PAR38 bulbs (Model# LED15P38COLOR4HT). The bulb face is flush with the trim of unit and at 550 lumens each (about 45w ea. equivalent) they're plenty bright.

It was stated to be an easy exchange for our 4296N two bulb fan and exhaust that had two fans one exhaust and one for heat light. The new one has one fan that is to do both. The install went wellbut the ceiling opening had to be made larger (not expected from talk with Nutone) and the fan is noisy but over all we are satisfied. We have a switch for fan, one for heat light and one for regular light. Wish we could have fan separate and also the fan when the heat light is on, I would like that better.

Fit existing opening with little trimming, relatively easy install from inside room considering unit. Only issue was the newer units have the duct and fan on the opposite side of the older units.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Replacing bath exhaust fan more difficult than anticipated This combo unit exhaust fan/ light/ heater-bulb is the closest match available for my 15 year old unit. It can be wired several ways, and I did not have to change wall switches. The metal case is more tightly formed, less energy loss from air leakage. Works fine, looks ok. However, there is now an extra safety feature to deal with: if there is too much heat buildup inside the case, then the exhaust fan will turn on automatically - surprise! The wiring diagram was poor, had to get an electrician and he missed the new feature - had to come back and redo. Also, the ceiling opening dimensions have changed - had to do some serious cutting and patching, and the new plastic cover is also a different size and may not hide some wallboard changes if not planned ahead. The fan outlet has been moved, so had to change the ducting setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet, Plenty of features and ways to wire it to get what you want. Shipping done as stated. I replaced a 35 year-old fan/light/lamp heater, so this was the model for the job. It's so quiet I forget to turn it off. Great ventilation. Haven't needed the heat lamps yet, but a heat lamp is a heat lamp my friends. The plastic face isn't near as impressive as the satin tin/steel one in my other old fan in my other bathroom. If I had the original satin tin/steel one, I'd substitute it for the white plastic face. Bottom Line: Great replacement to get fan, heat lamps, lights, etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent fan for the money Installed easy enough. Fan pushes air affectively for our bathroom measuring about 6' x 5'. Only issue I had (and this was based on the location of the fan I replaced not the new unit) was that this unit is meant to be installed in the middle of the joist/truss/rafter bay. My old unit was attached to the one truss. Once I attached some blocking the issue was resolved. Just beware if your buying this for replacement.
