Q:What's the best product/method to clean the cabinets after being painted with nuvo?
by|Feb 4, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  We recommend waiting a minimum of 7 days before cleaning your cabinets. The full cure time is 14 days. Clean by wiping your cabinets with soap and water. We do not recommend any harsh abrasives or chemicals, such as household cleaners as this will wear down the paint over time. The paint is water-based, so aggressive scrubbing or moisture sitting on it for long periods of time can put it in a weakened state.

Q:Can I use this product over cabinate doors that have been stained and varnished before?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello there! Yes you can, Nuvo Will Cover: Bare and painted wood (see note below), Paper covered cabinets, Bare and painted metal, Varnish finish, Laminate, Melamine and Vinyl. While our paint does have a primer in it, for raw woods such as plywood and cabinets that have not been sealed but instead exposing wood grains and knots, we recommend sealing the wood with a good wood primer such as Zinsser Bull’s Eye 1-2-3 or something similar. Otherwise, the tannins in the wood might bleed through the paint.

Q:Is dawn power wash good cleaner for the cleaning step? If not what product do you recommend?
      by|Jan 28, 2024
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  We recommend you clean well with Tri-Sodium Phosphate (TSP cleaner or a degreaser) around the handles and places where you often touch the wood, as the oils from our hands get onto the surface and will keep the paint from adhering. Pay extra attention to the area above and around the stove where oil and grease accumulates. You may need to clean a few times depending on how much the grease has settled. After cleaning, wipe up with water or Windex® to remove any TSP or degreaser residue. This may need to be done a few times.

        Answer This Question

A:  If your local paint professional feels comfortable tinting Nuvo, you’re welcome to do so. Please note that tinting your Nuvo will void the limited warranty because we are unable to predict how it will affect the performance of the product.

I really love the color. The blue was a perfect tone, not too dark and not too light. It was easy to prep and paint. It has been 3 weeks now and I did have to touch up some spots, but other than that so far so good.

            Worth. Every. Penny
I was skeptical this would be any different than other paints. It is. The consistency is like a thin pudding so it doesn’t run all over. Followed directions by cleaning and lightly sanding first, then got to work. The paint covers beautifully; no brush marks whatsoever. The color is maybe a little lighter than it looks online but love the finished product. Would definitely use again!!

At first, I was very hesitant to do this project. I knew going in that it would be an absolute ton of work - taping off everything, removing doors / hardware, painting, then a second coat and finally putting everything all back together again. Also knowing that for however long it would take us to do the entire thing (1 week, btw), our kitchen would be virtually unusable and we would also have to look at all of our stuff that is normally neatly tucked away, laying around out in the open. I really didn't want to do it, but needless to say, I was eventually dragged into it, kicking and screaming (in my head anyway). So, after ordering the paint online - for store pickup, we got busy deep cleaning everything. Any and all traces of grease, dust, grit, whatever, had to go. Once that was done, we made a map and numbered all of the doors as we took them down, so they would hopefully go back in the same order. Which, they did :) After moving all of the doors and drawers to the garage, we sanded them all to knock the glossy finish off of them, and then repeated the cleaning process again. We then went through every part of the base units and did the same thing. light sanding, cleaning, repeat. That part probably took the longest and was definitely the most labor intensive. After all of the sanding and cleaning was complete, we then got to work taping everything off. We used the green frog tape, hoping that it wouldn't bleed under it, but in a few areas it still did. But, it was pretty minimal. We used our fancy new paint sprayer to do throw down two coats of paint on the doors, and then did two coats on the base units by hand. This paint is fantastic to work with. A little really goes a long way and it does a fantastic job of covering stuff up! We did end up buying a second thing of paint just in case one wasn't enough, but probably could have gotten it all done with just one. In all, we spent about $500 on the paint, a new sprayer and the usual tools and supplies that you need for painting. The final project was COMPLETELY worth it! We have gotten a lot of compliments on how it turned out. My favorite was from our neighbor that said, "It looks great! You can't even tell that you guys did it yourselves!" Lol
