Almost identical dimensionally, some big guys like to swing a 6lb and others the 5lb, In very hard ground the Penetration will be slightly better with the 6 lb. The handle is the same length on both.
Just drop the head down over the handle and bang the black end down on a hard surface, The inside of the head is tapered and as such provides friction/interference fit with the black formed end. It makes absolutely no difference which side the black line on the handle faces, it is just the Nupla Trade Mark line.
The chisel side of the head is 1.3/8" wide. If you need something wider check out the Pick-Mattock 24-552, which has a blade 3" wide.
Sorry for the slow response. The width of the Mattock side of the head is 3.5".
Yes, the head is an interference fit on the handle. Hold the pick head with the handle hanging down beneath it and strike a hard surface, that releases the head.
The mattock has a broad horizontal blade (adze) on one side and either a pick axe (pick mattock) or a hatchet blade (cutter mattock) on the other side. Choice depends a lot on what is the intended use.
