Hello. Thank you for contacting OASE! You may have to keep the white silt bag out of the pond water, so you will have some water loss. We recommend at some point a good pressure filter or flow through filter from us attached to your pond and it will help get the super fine silt out of the water. We hope this helps! Will I need to remove small fish before using?

Yes. This is a powerful pond vac for the money. My koi pond is approximately 8000gal and had about 8yrs of sludge build up. The fish would run away from the vacuum. When reaching the bottom of the pond I sucked up several tadpoles measuring around an inch and a half long. None were dead or injured so I placed them all back into the pond. But if a fish gets close enough it will suck it up.

Will I need to drain the pond to remove sludge from the bottom?

Hello, the PondoVac 3 has a dual chamber system which provides continuous suction. This eliminates the need for draining your pond to remove sludge. We hope this helps!

Answer

Since the vacuum you purchased uses 60Hz and not 50Hz, we would not recommend using this product in Israel as a normal transformer would not be able to handle the wattage output of the vac. Oase does manufacturer vacuums that work on 220V/50Hz, and we would recommend you purchasing one of those while abroad.

It seem to work at first but it would stop. A week or two later it would stop and then the motor began smoking. I looked at the floaters and one was stuck. I loosened it and it worked for about a minute and then made a whining noise and started to smoke again. So I am retiring it. It must be a lemon because I had the smaller one for years without a problem. I may try it again?

Hello. We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your vacuum. We do want to inform you that the "smoke" you are seeing is really not smoke, that happens when the water splashes on the motor creating a mist. The unit is covered under an included 2 year limited warranty. We would love to assist you and get your vacuum back up and running. Please contact our Customer Care Team at 1-866-627-3435, Monday-Friday 8AM-6PM ET. We hope you will give us the opportunity to help resolve the issue. oase

Reasonably efficient. We have a 1,000 gallon pond that tends to get leaves, algae, etc., and this product does a nice job of removing unwanted debris. Wish it's attachments covered a bit more area/space but, other than that, a nice product. Easy to assemble and operate.

Works as advertised but a little something is missing. It should come with a muck filer bag so that minute particles can also be filtered out. It would work slow but will a useful add on. I made one from a pillow cover!

I have purchased other pond vacuums and none were up to the job. The Pondovac 3 is the best so far. The minor negative is the instructions are very poor, the major negative is while it does the job I wish it was faster and more powerful for the price. Since it is the best I have found so far, I do recommend this unit.

I have owned and used a Pondovac 3 for the past five years or so. It does a good job of vacuuming water and small debris. However, if your pond gets a ton of leaves then you will end up removing them periodically from the rubber flaps inside the tank that control water flow. That is about the only drawback to this vacuum. I do recommend it, and am about to order a replacement flap kit, as the flaps are wearing out on my vacuum. I use it between three and five times a season on a small pond of about 1,000 gallons. I dump the extracted water on my front lawn, so little gets wasted.
